depends what you can bring out of the system in which you put it. I honestly lOl at the occasional bad mouthing of certain hardware limitations and under 60 fps nonsense. Ive always been able to get 60+fps @ 1080p on high settings first with my gtx 1070, now with my rtx 2060 inside an aging 4th gen i7 setup. I read somewhere that comparative benchmarking is a sham, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. A simple way to test games is to switch up hardware, putting together odd configurations and stress testing them. Windows is a b***h too, as are certain in game engines.

The stuttering in newer games is caused by devs using UE4 and DX12 without compiling the game's shaders at the start, like they do with consoles. That leaves the GPU to compile the shaders on the fly, which is way slower than having them saved in the system. The only fix is that devs patch their games to compile them at the start or maybe Microsoft can forced them when using DX12.

    • @jamezxh

RandomgaminginHD : the Radeon 7 eats around 20-21 AMPs via those two PCI EX connectors....for example my RM850X is able to deliver on max continuous of 14 AMPs / PCI cable. So you connected the daisychained PCI EX connector and use only 1 PCI EX cable. Unless you have a at least 1200 Watts PSU with relatively few connector, I know for a fact that you got lower results because you didnt use 2 cables.

The stuttering in modern games you mentioned is due to DX12 shader caching. Depending on how it was created, the game needs to build and cache shaders to your drive. Some games do this the first time you boot it up, other games don't... And that's why you see the stuttering. The game is having to load and cache shaders on the fly, causing pauses. If a game has DX12/11/Vulkan support, you will only see the stuttering in DX12.

Ended up drilling a hole in it to clear a short, and then had to reball the core. Booted it up, driver installed, and then I found out the hbm2 was dead. Shocker. The HBM2 on this card is extremely seen it I’ve. Not saying a bent board wouldn’t have caused this, but HbM2 failing on this and the Vega 56/64 is VERY common, and those cards were very good for mining at the time so the majority of these cards used will likely be dying or dead due to failed memory.

I think one of the problems with the performance of the card in this testings was the fact that you need to put 2 individual 8 pin power chords to the card (an individual cable can deliver up to 175w if I remember correctly + the 75w of the PCI-E motherboard, the Vega 64 could eat like 300w so... I guess this could be the same or even more) and the fact that you need to up the power limit of the card to the max to let her perform as much as it can, then you can play with the undervolt if you want to save some power and heat, but basically you need to plug 2 individual 8 pin cables and put the power limit to the max to let her perform the max she can, you should give her another try with this advices, and maybe as I said you could play a little bit with the UV settings! Great videos as always my friend.

The upscaling bandaids slapped on games are due to the lack of performance being pushed out by our beloved gpu makers. Game optimization will help very little if the hardware, no matter how absurdly expensive (cough mid range 4080 for $1200) is built to show off new technology on old games (portal being the #1 example). The marketing angle is now to show you that you can now play dated games at extremely high frame rates with upscaling, but only if you buy the newest hardware. A couple of months go by after the cards release, and boom a handful of games drop that barely run on the new hardware without the upscaling crutch, and the hardware from a generation or 2 ago don’t even have enough vram to run the games without them being a stuttering mess.

I was so mad that within 2 hours of having it in my system, i was sending it back to Amazon whilke purchasing a MSI RTX 2080 Duke at the same time. Problems solved. The big 16GB HBM2.0 Memory would have come in handy in Video Edition, if any Edit software would support AMD cards. All in all, a huge disapointment for me. The HBM overclock tended to do far more for the computational performance but I wouldn't try it on air you do not want to burn out the HBM and the fan curve is more tuned for GPU hot spot temp. The factory air cooler was cool looking with 3 fans but very ineffective and loud.
