The 2nd Law is so underrated, not their best work imo, but its so enjoyable and the whole context of it makes sense, so hyped for their new album!
I am impressed that you didn't notice the 5/4 throughout the song, and the polyrhythm at the end
personally it's my favorite song from them, along with Knights of Cydonia and Butterflies & Hurricanes
Been waiting for this one😁😁. This song is often talked about with its unique guitar playing and the drumming towards the end where the symbols are being played at a different time to the rest (I'm not a musician I can't remember the name of the term 😂). Not to mention the darkish tone with the final lyric being "kill yourself. Come on and do us all a favour"
Awesome reaction and I'm glad you enjoy muse as much as you have done. I'd recommend Liquid State, which is from the same album as this one, but it was written and sung by the Bass player, not something you often see with bands.
Also, the song that came after this in the show was Knights of Cydonia, which you reacted to on your Patreon. Can't remember if you commented on the actor lying on the floor at the start of the song, but now you know where he came from😁
There's actually a polyrythm the entire song. The drums are 4/4 while guitar and bass is 5/4.
Not impressively written? Absolutely not. One of their most well constructed songs.

I have the feeling the way you're interpreting it is not exactly how he meant it. He explains what he means by "not impressive" better towards the end of his review.
He said several times he enjoyed the song, I interpreted it as "I've heard more complicated and more all-over-the-place songs from Muse before, which isn't a knock".
Just my take.
Those polyrhythmic drumming at the line is what sold me

Fun fact: those weren't pieces of paper, those were Musos! A fake (obviously) Muse currency they used as a prop during The 2nd Law tour. You can still find some on Ebay.
Hey Dave! Great reaction and review, honestly this song is not my cup of tea, the fact you find enjoyment in a song that I find boring (Me just me, please everyone who reads this comment if you enjoy it, good for you)
I just hope you get to listen to more of their older stuff in the future (3 first albums) . Maybe in the future once you have listened to most of their songs you can do an album review from the perspective of how they but the album (not only Muse) if it's a thematic album and how each song comes to complement the album as a whole, just an idea.

Do you remember your review of Knights of Cydonia live? The actor laying "dead" at the beginning of that performance? Was eager to see if you'd recognize that in your review, but you've probably reacted to a thousand videos since then!

I’m a Muse fan and I heard this song a thousand times. Your opinion is very valid and I absolute agree with the fact that this music shouldn’t be more agressive than it is. It’s about human greed.

usually know where to go with song. He knows where to stop, and when amp up. Matt understand music.
I have to again get back to pyramid stage - the stage you see here in Rome is just... sad. (I understand it would be hard to reproduce it on such a big stage) You might remember I talked about the pyramid and the steps made of screens on which videa was shown - the footage on right was shown on pyramid. However that's not all - under the stage, where you normally have just some black linen to hide the structure, they had screens too - it was a line, like if you put one big TV next to another TV next to another TV (big screens, of course, without visible division), full line of screens from one side to the other. Behind them there was a curve of screens - from front on one side, cirling behind the drummer, and circling back to other front side. The screens shown stock trade information in the +2.7% -4.9% form, just like in TV. At last came the stock crash, red numbers everywhere... I really cannot fathom how they didn't win the best stage that year...
EDIT:
Oh also, I have a paper person - it's just a cheap paper stick figure - head, legs and arms... That's from another tour, they were firing them/blowing them during one song and they flew everywhere around... Really cheap, but still a good keepsake I took home.
I wonder how many janitors are contemplating quitting their job after such "spectacles".
Just thought I'd mention, tomorrow (June 1st) Muse will be releasing the next single of their upcoming album, Will of the People. Funnily enough the song is Also called Will of the People, so interested to see yours reaction to that one as I believe you have reacted to the last two singles they released so far this year.

If the opportunity presents itself, I would absolutely be down to see them live.
Muse was just announced as headliners for Sunday at Aftershock Fest in Sacramento (It'd be a lonnng road trip for DH, assuming he is in SoCal, but The Warning are also playing that Sunday... just sayingggggg)
(Edit: The festival is in October, btw. Muse always hits up Los Angeles when they tour for an album, which is coming.)

With each Muse album, they're getting a bit mellow tbf. They always seem to make it work though. Looking forward to their new album in August. Compliance is a bit meh, though.

Believe it or not, I thought the song was in 4/4. I didn't catch the 5/4, I must have been off my game that day.
@@THEDavidHeretic I'm not surprised you missed it. it is a very easy flowing 5/4 groove, it shouldn't be this smooth. that's what makes this song amazing. as a drummer, the polyrythm after the first time the song grows is orgasmic.
And the businessman just keeps laying on the stage even at the beginning of the next song lol
having received a lot of money to spend so much time lying on a show I wouldn't have the patience, even more with all the energy must roll over me for so long.
