    Only 3 years after UP's takeover of SP, and you'd hardly know this was SP trackage from the abundance of UP units here.

    What a great video! So that’s what trains use to look like before all the AssH-- Started Tagging The Hell Out Of Everything. How refreshing it is to see a train that was clean. Man O Man do I miss The Good Old Days.😢
    Once again Thanks for a look back in time!👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    • @carsonprince3634
      @carsonprince3634 4 роки тому +1

      It's called a spitter valve. Air that's drawn in by the compressor for the brakes is dried using this valve, and it ensures no moisture is going into the brake chambers.

    Is that an SD50-2, Dash-8C44, SD40-2 Snoot, and SD40-2?

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 2 роки тому

      At the start, SD60 (6049), C40-8W (9359) and the two SD40-2s.
      Note that there's actually no such thing as an SD50-2, unless some railroads designated locomotives that way. In EMD's nomenclature, dash-2 locomotives are an upgraded version of an earlier non-dash-2 design, mostly with improvemets to the electrical system. Any completely new design introduced after 1972, i.e., anything from the GP/SD50 onwards, was built with the dash-2 systems from day one, so they didn't include the "-2" in the model name.

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 2 роки тому

      @@railfanmaximstill7279 EMD never made a locomotive called an SD50-2. If CSX is calling some of their locomotives by that name, it's a name that they invented, as I described in my original comment.

      Those helpers are called distributed power...

    • @beeble2003
      @beeble2003 2 роки тому +2

      @@redrock717 No they're not. Distributed power is used for the whole journey and is remote-controlled from the lead locomotive. Helpers are added to get the locomotive over one hill (or through a relatively short hilly area) and are controlled by a separate crew.
