Great review, Luke. I'm with you. I really gravitate towards the strong pearls as well. They are capable of getting through the front and reading the middle just enough without losing too much energy. For me, the Attention Star and the Altered are different enough to carry both.

I only bowl senior league and never on fresh. Since I only take a three balls, with the Attention Star being one of them, I can't see myself needing the HR Pearl. Great review though. When it comes time to replace the Star, I'll see what the latest and greatest is then.

Hey Luke, looking to get a new strong asym, I have a Gem rn but I find a little too smooth sometimes, and my proton physix just cracked. Do you think there's anything close to the proton on the market rn that gives that much traction but still has some pop down lane for being a strong cover?
Well the new X-Cell isn't technically as strong on paper, but it is pretty strong and it shapes exactly like the Proton. The Proton was also pretty clean for how strong it was on paper, so I think side by side they'd be a whole lot closer than they're "supposed to be." Might watch a few videos on that one and see what you think. If you're open to other companies, the Radical Radical Conspiracy is really close to the Proton, closer than the X-Cell is I think on traction, but I think the X is a little closer on shape.
Better fit as a ball down during league from a Proton Physix: HRP or DNA Coil? I also have an Attention Star, Infinite Physix, and Summit Peak. 15 MPH, 300 rev, righty.
Thoughts on used balls? Getting back into bowling used a DV8 thug life which was a strong asym pearl at the time for a 300 and a mastermind brainiac, looking to try various ball types. medium to high rev straight shot bowler. looking to get some different feels! Facebook groups keep denying me LOL
Used balls are typically fine if they look like they're in good condition and you can get them for a decent price. Most of the time people just put 5 games on something and still want a ton for it, then by the time you get it plugged and redrilled, you're most of the way to the price of something brand new. Hammer stuff for example is so reasonably priced that you could get like a Vibe, Scorpion, and a Black Widow for just a little more than decent used balls.

Not remotely close, the P5 is a symmetric ball with a medium to weaker cover, this ball is a very strong core with a very strong cover. This one is going to be an arrow to an arrow and a half stronger than the P5 in addition to being more dynamic across the board.
This one is stronger and sharper, and yeah the Eternity was the closest thing at that point, but it was still smoother than the Altered. This one is definitely closer.
We had so many new asym options lately. So of course I bought an Intense Mindset to partner with my OG Mindset. My Eternity is tired and lazy. A cover reset w/oil extraction only gives me 15 - 20 games before it sucks again. I thought Intense Mindset was the replacement ball. Nope, too strong. So, I guess I'm left with Attention Star as an Eternity replacement?
The Eternity is weird because technically you'd need a Harsh Reality or DNA Coil to get the same cover strength, but those are both going to be a little stronger. The Attention Star however has a lot cleaner cover, so you'll get the Eternity shape but it'll be weaker. Give the Intense Mindset like 10-20 more games, give it a chance to settle down a little first and you might have something before going right out and buying another ball. Trying to replace an old ball with something new is really difficult because all balls have a break in period. You don't really know what you have until you get 20-30 games on a new ball.
@LukeRosdahl I agree 100% I have done several OG Mindset vs Intense Mindset videos plus, used it on PBA Viper Oil to test there. So, I need about 6 more games to get in the "broke-in" zone.

Had the altered & eternity so far and I’m always yelling “Get around the F🤬ing corner!!!!!” I’m a lefty with some hand and they rev and 💩 the bed down lane. Probably good for one game for me then it’s back in the bag. Oh well.
Yeah . . SPI used to be the big backend company and now the shiny B7 covers are quite a bit better. They read the lane better in the oil and actually pick up down lane. Don't have to worry about them skating or wiggling like the SPI stuff.

So the "pro" staffers are saying the the OIP is "the first ball out of their bag," which has been a staffer hype cliche for probably a decade now, and you're taking them at their word, even though they actually get a salary from the companies to represent them, but you're distrusting me, who you assumed to be a staffer, just because I said a few favorable things about a ball? Are companies not generally making good bowling balls? Better is relative, if you watch the Optimum Idol Pearl video I did with this same tester, it doesn't look very good for him, and I said as much. He ended up redrilling it and it still didn't look good for him, and I said that in Zach's review. I have a pro shop background, so I just describe ball reaction and let people decide things for themselves. It's just that since USBC banned weight holes, people are now using asyms to fill that void, and it was predicted back then that because weight holes weren't allowed any more, asyms would start to dominate the equipment landscape, and they have, so that's why you're seeing so many more of them.

Either one, HRP is just going to be a little earlier and smoother than the coil. infinite physix is already kind of the natural ball down though

I know its no longer produced, however the Harsh kinda looks like an Eternity. Would like to see a comparison if you or Angle has one still
It's somewhat similar, the Eternity I think is smoother and a little weaker, but in that same general realm.

The Exotic is much chuggier, earlier, and heavier rolling, definitely still plenty of separation between the two.
