Ray seems like a really great guy. I ordered some stuff off the mungo jerry website and in addition to all the stuff I ordered I got a signed postcard from Ray himself. To me that was worth more than everything I ordered.
He was playing at a small nightclub near me in 1974. It was very relaxed, I even sat at his table and had a pint and a chat with him and the lads. A really talented and pleasant man
I met Ray in 1973 in Blackpool I was only 13 at the time ..he was playing the winter gardens there I am so great full that I was alive in the same era as him and his music and to meet him when that great happy fun loving summer song was in the charts was one of the highlights of my life and only two days ago I dreamed I was singing this down the main high street in my home town with Ray so this song has and still has a effect on my life at 57 lol...thanks Ray keep it going ...
doesn't need a chorus. it's a killer groove, and you simply can't repeat it enough. a moment of pure inspiration and I'm so glad Ray embraces it's success. we all need sunshine in our lives.
Thanks for the songs. Summertime puts me back to the 70's when live was fun and we were all discovering ourselves. Today's music is not the same. Glad you were and are here.
Mr. Dorset, Thanks for the reply. When I was young, in the 70's, I was a real fan of dragracing and listening to the great music of that ERA. I'm living part of that dream today by restoring and owning one of the cars of the 70's. Please visit my web sight www.ramchargersfunnycar.com Thanks again and God Bless! You've been one of my favorites.
The music reflects the times. We live in a fearful technological dystopia, and as part of the younger generation, the future is uncertain and not in our control lol.
@@AntonioBarsanio Pretty sure I said "We live in a fearful technological dystopia..." which would seem to agree with your point, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.
What a great attitude about music and life in general. This song was what inspired me to learn more about music and playing the guitar, and it's a great song. Thank you for everything you've done, Ray.
I remember it very well. It really epitomizes the feel of the Summer. Ray Dorset's such an upbeat guy even to this day. Have two of their albums & surprised to discover how good the other songs were! Ray IS "Mungo Jerry".
This was my favorite song when I was 9 years old in 1970. I had a little yellow transistor radio with a brown cover that my Grandmother gave me.l couldn't wait to hear it.i never saw the band or the person singing it till now. I still love this song, glad I got to see this.
Plus marc. I do need to get cds for the car etc. Love music. Makes the world go round for sure. RD/MJ has so many types of songs you can listen all day. Grandkids are so fun to have a round. Make me laugh a lot. Your grands are loving the pool. I'll bet.
That's a great story. Also ray is known for being quite fan friendly. Something a lot of musicians both past and present lack. Every single summer you can hear all kinds commercials that use the song. Its still the summer anthem where I'm from. I personally will always have alright alright alright as my favorite mungo song overall though, as good as in the summertime is.
I believe the movie is Despicable ll. Out July 3. I heard "In the Summertime" looked up at the tv and saw the advertisement for the movie. Dorset / MJ still makes quality music. Love hearing all he writes and sings.
The music I have is mostly from the web sites that you are providing. I usually watch and listen to the videos. I like SO MUCH of RD/MJ that I don't know what to order. I have been so thankful for the Mungo Jerry sites on the computer.I can't order them all. Plus the vids are so good.
Hello Thank you for stopping by - you put up a great comment - very honest about 7 years ago i only knew the song in the summertime but i did not know who sang it - i never heard of mungo jerry - well a good friend milan from germany sent me muno music and gave me ray dorset (aka) mungo jerry email - i loved the music so i wrote ray and he wrote me back - from that i got to know ray pretty good - then i started making music videos for mungo - ray saw them and likes my work - stop by anytime
Marc, Any time you get tired of all the rain coming your way, feel free to send it on down to central Texas. Heat and drought continues. Just a tiny bit over month before you are part of all the RD/MJ excitement , yea !!!!
Ray did a gig in the 'London Town Pub' in Cape Town. As a person....even better than his lovely music.... Lana does it for me. Why wasn't this song iconic as well?
Hello Anita Man its been very hot here - i bought a little pool and let the grand kids go swimming it will be over 90 for the next few days - i dont mind im off from work for a week - yaaa getting close for Mungo Jerry - Cant Wait - hey anita do you have any mungo music ? take care marc
£100,000 a year minimum in royalties for just that one song. He also had another no. 1 and multiple top 10s in the early 70s and we're a huge band selling out everywhere they performed. He then wrote the disco classic " feels like I'm in love" which became a no. 1 UK hit for Kelly Marie. So he's laughing all the way to the bank, just on royalty checks alone
Oh, Marc, wow. Thank you so much. I am kinda speechless. I would so appreciate whatever can happen. How do I send an address so the info doesn't go everywhere else ? I am not familiar with a zip folder but I would be thankful for either. You have said Ray Dorset is a very kind man. Evidently--you are too.
What does Ray mean about not wanting to give away a share of the lyric? The Shaggy song seems to be more than just a sample of parts, it's a cover right? So I assume they had to purchase rights to the song as well as pay for the use of samples for the original. Or did they just steal/cover it then after the fact pay royalties?
Hello Frank Stop by anytime we have lots of mungo jerry here - take a look at the 3 new videos i posted with mungo jerry at the brooklyn bowl a few weeks ago - he was great live take care marc
I have been trying to see about "how to do a zip folder". Some kinks here on that. I could send address if it is to you. Just a couple of weeks now for MJ.

I never saw is as “take advantage”= do what you feel I felt like because they’re rich take her for a meal cause that’s what they’d probably be used to because stereotypes and how their materialistic and expect nice things. Do what you want possibly go for a walk and talk get to know eachother.. something simple but still enjoyable. Maybe I’m just optimistic and want to find good. Haha.

I read somewhere that the young Ray was once caned at school for grinning in class!
