I'm glad you're feeling more like yourself (this country being on fire notwithstanding). I think it's a constant battle to readjust our own internal expectations to match what we can realistically achieve and still get enjoyment from. I'm forever fighting the demon in my brain that says "You wrote 3k today? You're so lazy. We did 18k that one time, before we had kids, or a job and three side hustles to maintain with no partner or local familial support. Why are you so bad at this?"
Do what you can, when you can. It's not about how many times you fall down, it's about getting back up every time. You've got this! 📚

Yes! When I was writing semi-professionally I was writing 40k words a month, which required a larger word per day total than I am trying for now, so I'm just sitting here like.... I've done this before what is the matter with me??? And not remembering that I did that for less than a year before I burnt myself completely out because the pace was so intense.
Being kinder to myself when I am not as productive as I would like is definitely something I will be working on!

Really sorry you've had so much going on. Don't feel like you shouldn't talk about how you're feeling because "talking about mental health is not exciting." Your mental health is important and people need to prioritize their own mental health more. (Learned that from the past three years of prioritizing other people's mental health at the detriment of my own.) This year I've decided to prioritize my own mental health and its improved SO much!
I've definitely been in the same place as you before where I couldn't seem to get any enjoyment from any of the things I used to get enjoyment from and I promise, it does get better! Doesn't happen over night but you will absolutely be able to get that full 100% enjoyment out of your hobbies again. So glad to hear that you're doing better. Keep looking after yourself. ♥

Thank you so much for this reminder. So often in today's social media we only see the success stories so it's easy to feel like I'M the only one who can't make it work, so *I* must be the bad writer. Thanks so much for your kindness, I really needed it!

@@JustAnotherStrugglingWriter You're very welcome. Yeah, I think the fact that success stories are so mainstream is probably quite toxic because, statistically, people who succeed at all of their life's ambitious are in the minority. Most people are just regular schmucks trying to get by. And it doesn't mean we're failing, we're just... Taking a little longer to succeed. ☺
