Great vid... i was 15 years old in 1995 and proud owner of a 95 Lava Dome bought from Sunset Bikes on finance for 25 quid a month. Used to wash cars in the neighbourhood to pay for it. Great days!! Wish i still had it!
Cheers dude… thats awsome, times were so much simpler back then, the next kona on my radar alis a lava dome but a 97 ive got my eye on 👍
Credit to you... Great nostalgic build and back story... Im currently doing a 94 Kula... Raced a Kilauea in the 90s for a local bike shop.. Had it stolen through a house burglary sadly and allways vowed id own another Kona... Took 30+years to get around to it mind.... Great vid 👌
Cheers buddy, this ine means a lot to me so it will be stored safely with the rest of my collection, not much getting in there without being caught lol 👍
Lovely story and a perfect video
Thank you 👍
Wooooww thats is beautiful mate, fantastic resto job 👍
Thank you 👍
Very clean build, immaculate!
Cheers buddy
Fantastic tribute build. Interesting you gone for more of a box fresh build. I'd have ditched the reflectors quick, and slapped some on some ski bent bar ends :-) Cool how many of us have bike memories of dream bikes we wished we had but our mates did... Joe Murray's designs do ride epic though.
Thank you buddy…. Yes i wanted closer to box fresh simply because thats how I remembered his bike… ive even got a dork disc coming for it too lol…. And your right i think all 90s bikes have a certain ride factor to them but i must admit for me the early to mid 90s kona is just top shelf 👌👍🚵
@@theretrobikeshed3392 I always wanted a Kona - I ended up racing a Giant ATX770 instead - which was a great bike - though I always felt was a little too short and not tall enough in the front. I tried a Kona Cinder Cone - guess musta have been a 97 - which was awesome. But being a student at the time money was always tight. The only concern I had was that a friend of mine had ridden a Kona over with his Cadex during a race and snapped the Kona in half - so was always don't get one ;-)
@@mattvanderwalt6220 blimey ive only ever seen 2 kona actually snap my old 99 nunu and my mates 97 lavadome and to be fair im surprised they lasted that long with what we used to do on them… to say we was hard on our bikes back then is probably an understatement lol … no fear when your young but now i must admit it hurts more when your older 😂👍
Gorgeous, apart from the reflectors.........aye carumba, they're an eye sore!
You gotta love them really lol
It’s strange how these objects of desire from teenage years get there hooks into you better than anything else. Lovely how you’ve built this up to celebrate the memories of your friend. Thanks for sharing a touching story and great work 🤙
Thank you buddy 👍
That is stunning, fairplay to you 😍
Thank you buddy 👍
What a beautiful build... great tribute to your friend...

Beautiful job and a great dedication to your friend.
👍
Thank you buddy 👍
Are those 395mm a-c P2s? I have a Kilauea mountain shock with marzocchis, and would like to put a P2 on it .instead. Not sure if the race light and mountain shock are the same frame.
Hi there buddy, yes they are the same size mate 395mm a-c on the p2, the Kilauea also came as mountain shock you had a choice from new either the p2 fork or a Marzocchi XCR suspension fork, the frames themselves are the same just different decals, hope this helps bud 👍🚵
Is the tange prestige frame alone worth the price?
@@Mash3OH3 hi buddy, my personal opinion is yes, i love all the old konas they all ride fantastically but the tange framed ones in my opinion just have something extra 🤘👌
