Chameleon is good, but St. Elmo's provides what every striker build needs: Survivability through effects, mainly the shock rounds. If we are talking Raw DPS then most AR's with the Strained Talent will outdps both Chameleon and St Elmo's
@@cultokHow? Shock rounds sometimes do more harm than good, it's true that they can save your ass but if you shoot a target they'll most likely crouch under the effect and if they're behind a low cover you can't hit them until they uncrouch. I recommend some leg shots after body, the reload is insane. You still get body damage and quickly stack the reload. It is damn near an instant reload. Finish up with the head, rinse and repeat. Once you get this rhythm down muscle memory takes over and it is easy to keep them up.
Oh yeah the reload speed is just crazy fast. I mean without that Chameleon reloads at 1.7 secs and then if you add the reload speed on top of it. It becomes the fastest reloading weapon in the game.
the tiny damage bump is not worth playing the mini game on the chameleon imo. Also the chameleon offers no crowd control like the st elmos does, which drastically increases it's usefulness in both solo & group content. like crowd control is such an important aspect in this game, that I can't foresee a single reason why I would choose a tiny bit more damage over completely shutting down an enemy for any reason whatsoever.
Everyone has different opinion. Some will take the Chameleon over St. Elmo's Just because they like the way it works. A lot of old players and also some of my friends they just have a Chameleon maxed out on expertise with Striker and use it in all content and I will never bet with someone to make them swap it because I know I will lose :D

Really happy to hear it. When I don't know what weapon to use on a build I Equip Chameleon. But a lot of people miss understands it may be because they don't know how to use it. So, I decided to cover that in this video :)
Interesting take. It's definitely has the DPS when buffed however the ability to stop all enemies with a full mag, to do that dmg unimpeded with the shok ammo buff on top of that have a higher base dmg with no need to shoot legs or chest is where the st Elmo's is better. Where chameleon just doesn't have that and have to play shoot the leg/chest)head. (essentially you are playing catch-up for the lack of DPS at the start of combat or when on cooldown) No need to fill 3 bars to get 3 different buffs. Chameleon was a good idea but just isn't a hit due to its burst dmg compared to most other weapons where it's constant/ active more frequently. The nerf to it way back then is what made it a permanent ornament on my wall. Plus you can't beat meta builds easily. Like right now it's St Elmo's and striker with under 1.1 million armour. With coyotes mask. I also would use Picarios holster or foxes prayer kneepads or contractors gloves. (Go off what you reroll/ have st Elmo's sub attribute at. Dmg out of cover is best imo since you are pulling em out of cover or use dmg to armour)
Ended up getting St. Elmo's and Chameleon fighting Rogue agents (the NPCs, not DZ) on Heroic tonight, and I actually like Chameleon a lot better than St. Elmo's. I'm glad I found this video so I can run a good Chameleon build as a change of pace instead of running my Vile build constantly
The stacks you've gained don't disappear, eventually the buff will be going, and if you are killing fast enough you can keep it up for whatever you are doing with ease. You are right about the range though, it plays like an SMG.
i tested this with a few different variations of my striker builds.... St Elmo still has more output across all variations. I was curious to see though, and it was admittedly only slightly less dmg.
Saw this video a week ago and grinded to get the exact same gear, but later swapped out the Sombra chest piece for a Ceska (Ceska offers better value on CHC and CHD overall). This build with the Chameleon is my go to for missions with very close encounters (Incursion, Countdown), I'm usually finishing CDs with over 1900M (1.9 billion) damage done. However, for legendary (especially solo) I just cannot get things done quickly with the Chameleon due to its horrible spread and damage drop off and run out of ammo at times. Only St Elmo has proven to be reliable in that situation due to its phenomenal accuracy essentially letting me spray down enemies at sniper ranges. St Elmo would still be my main weapon even if it had no talent/shock rounds, the accuracy and the CHC/CHD values coming from its attachments are enough for me.
sometime ago i tried using the chameleon and even the backfire with the Striker set but i didnt like the consistency still gringo with the St elmo but It was worth a try
The Shock ammo will only last for few secs as you firing the weapon so fast. But with this build You can let the enemies shoot back at you and don't care because that's the whole point of this build. But hey if you like St. Elmo u can use it but damage will be low though.
I always use chameleon. It is a indeed a very good weapon. that's how I use it alternate trigger of talent. it does really deal high damage. with a good presense of mind to buffs it is really powerful. I don't even use that in strikers in the past yet it is still good for high dps outputs.
I'm using the striker gloves, holster, kneepads and backpack, a vest with Obliterate talent, and the Cayote mask. I'm also using both rifles from time to time, but I feel that the Chameleon kicks more.
Chameleon has the potential (with all buffs active to do more damage But... In the Incursion there's tons of shield rushers. On shield rushers you're going to have a extremely difficult time getting (let alone keeping) the buffs. Then take into account the Chameleon's accuracy is complete ass to anything past 15 yards, and I'll stick to Elmos or FAMAS.

But the range on that boy is slightly shorter than the Elmo. Not to mention the ammo count. The 20 extra bullets really makes a big difference before reloading. same IMO. picked it up about an hour ago and it's a night and a day difference between this and EB/Chameleon. the shock is so good for door camping enemies and taking down bosses
As someone who runs mainly striker builds and loves both the chameleon and the st. Elmo, I can confidently say st. Elmo is better. Yes the damage is lower, but the accuracy is SOOOO much better. You waste half your ammo with the chameleon just because the bloom makes you miss half your damn shots. The chameleon needs to be reworked to be by far the better gun. Instead of having to target different areas to get the buffs, the amount of bullets hit needs to be increased and all 3 perks need to be activated at the same time. The Elmo is better because of the accuracy and cc perk. While I do like the chameleon, I will stick with my Elmo unless the chameleon gets buffed. Also, you can keep the perks active all the time in theory with the chameleon, but in reality I have been screwed over by the game mechanics more than the out of combat effect has benefitted me. It doesn’t work correctly most of the time, at least for me.
Do some Black Tusk Bounties or go to Countdown with AR targeted loot it should drop. If it's an Exotic AR that drops then there's a 33% chance it's going to be Chameleon.

Not really. SHD does provide some damage increase but it's not super essential to reach a million damage. Anyone can do a million damage even a 300 SHD player. I'm using striker chest which gives more stacks and helps reach millions of damage.
Without DMG out of target with this weapon and strikes build without fox prayers isnt so clever build. Of course in close situations is good but an smg like dark winter will do more dmg
Every exotic weapon at TU20 will be able to get whatever attribute you want on the 3rd column. So, You can roll Damage to target out of cover on Chameleon after the update hits :)
That's good advice. I also think that Bounties drop it very often especially the Black Tusk bounty and if the area happens to be AR Targeted loot then even better 🙂
Bro I didn't see your Profile pic when I was replying to you. Xiao is one of my favorite I'm hoping to get him in the upcoming Lantern rite wish me luck :)
I use this exact build with the Chameleon and Fenris (instead of Grupo) Chest with Obliterate, and the numbers (for me) with Fenris are ever-so-slightly better than Grupo. A flat +10% damage to EVERY bullet works out just a tad better than the +15% damage to 3/5ths (60% crit rate) of your total bullets. But long-story-short, this build (with either chest piece) *IS* a hammer, and it *DOES* melt faces in solo content.
Strikers with st Elmos you have to use a acs 12 to stack up. If its lefty or rock and roll or regular acs 12. But you have to get in their face and put your self in danger because stacking with st Elmos only it takes way too long and by the time you stacked fully you almost rant out of amo. Strikers with chameleon you can keep a distance you don't need to stack with the shotguns, you just need to shoot the legs the torso and head. But really you can ignore the legs all you need is torso and head. As of February 13 2024 my watch level is only 375 and with my strikers and chameleon im hitting nearly 19 million dps 1.7 million crit damage per bullet hit and its not even a god rolled or fully optimized using only chamelon not the lefty or rock and roll to stack up strikers. With the st elmos im hitting around 12 million dps and from 800k to 1 million crit damage per bullet hit when fully stacked also not fully optimized but i have to use lefty or rock and roll to stack up strikers and get all in their face if i want to stack up fast which puts me in danger and we all know strikers is all dps but at the sacrifice of armor. So they both work but have pros and cons.
I think the St. Elmos is better!! Yes, the Chameleon does nore damage, but the accuracy isn't as good as the St. Elmos!! You can hit those numbers in the range cause the target is not moving!! Not to mention, you have to have the play style to play close for the Chameleon to shine!! The St. Elmos is good at both ranges!! Pick the gun that suits your play style!!
I am sure you mean the "Lefty" named ACS-12? Two reasons. 1) To build striker stacks in Heroic and Legendary content typically so that you can get the full benefit of the Striker talent with 100 stacks or 200 stacks depending on striker chest piece and backpack combination that will increases your weapon damage either 100% or 200% with your AR. 2) The Lefty comes with the talent Sledgehammer which is used mainly on Chunga's. When you have the Lefty equipped and you throw a grenade (concussion) on a chunga, it substantially increases armor damage on him as well as slows his movement speed down. Read the stats on the talent, it will explain the percentages. This is just a "why do you use it" explanation for you.
I actually can't stand the chameleon because it should've been an smg not an assualt rifle. I only seen it good for objects that don't move so st elmo's better overall but in some cases yeah chameleon is very powerful.
not necessarily. being at 1000shd helps with some overall damage, but it's mostly the stats that will be the most noticeable difference. so your crit chance and crit dmg will be slightly less if you run identical build and stat spread across armor and weapons just purely due to being under 1000. unless you've purely focused on raising those stats thus far into your journey.
No. You don't need to be at 1000 SHD. yes 1000 SHD increase the DMG but nothing crazy just focus on leveling up SHD when u can otherwise just play normally :)

Was this before or after update?
I don’t recommend countdown, I highly suggest a mission with the weapon you’re looking for it’s way faster. I suggest you aim for legs THEN body. 🔥
@@AnYTimeGaming I DO wish you luck, I got hu Tao on my first 10 pull, but xai made the game go from veteran to easy difficulty at C0.
Sorry for my English. They worry a lot about damage and in the end in pve everything serves to kill
When it comes to group Content as a DPS you should only Focus on DMG. But I do like to have different opinion from time to time :)
I’ve done the love birds 10 times and still no Ouroboros 😡
Dudes either never seen Sesame Street, or never heard of Texas
Chameleon max everything is ultimate Brrr at 1.3mill per shot 😂so much fun
Can someone tell me how to get the st Elmo
Go to Countdown
It also helps to have 5k shd.. all these builds are no good with low shd
Is there a reason almost everyone I see use this build has the named ACS-12 'Lucky'?
@@Madmaxx_001 I did mean Lefty. Thank you for the explanation.
You welcome bud.@@rutrohscoob
well then watch the video! lol GG bud, GG =)
I have got several St. Elmo’s from doing countdown with AR selected loot of anybody is looking for one. I even gave a few away.
I’m using striker with both guns same build I’m getting 3.6 million from both
I actually can't stand the chameleon because it should've been an smg not an assualt rifle. I only seen it good for objects that don't move so st elmo's better overall but in some cases yeah chameleon is very powerful.
Chameleon basically is not assault rifle. It is a smg
But without crit chance as main attribute and fires slower than a vector
STRIKER ST ELMOS
STRIKER ST ELMOS
STRIKER ST ELMOS
👍🏽😅😅😅😅
I use the bighorn.
do I need to have my shd level over a thousand to hit this hard? I'm at 624
not necessarily. being at 1000shd helps with some overall damage, but it's mostly the stats that will be the most noticeable difference. so your crit chance and crit dmg will be slightly less if you run identical build and stat spread across armor and weapons just purely due to being under 1000. unless you've purely focused on raising those stats thus far into your journey.
No. You don't need to be at 1000 SHD. yes 1000 SHD increase the DMG but nothing crazy just focus on leveling up SHD when u can otherwise just play normally :)
I have striker build focused on crit and crit chance, weapon damage. I’m still hitting at like 340,000
@@AnYTimeGaming Thankful i was around for the manhunt farm glitch a little while back before they started issuing bans for it XD
@@junytroche are they all maxed out stats (besides mods) as seen in the video?
Who dares reveal my secrets 😂 especially cause pc is so fucked at the moment I haven't been able to even use it for 5 months cause it glitches out can't keep up with the stacks and what not
If you have chameleon blueprint you can keep re-rolling it until you get Damage out of cover but it's a lot of work
Since when? The 3rd attribute is fixed on old exotics
Oreo over all
Or instead of 2 true patriot use 2 striker
Chameleon terrible at range st.elmo is a laser beam that’s the difference
Well in that case I call dibs on Carbine 7 with strained talent on it 🙂
Highest accuracy AR is St. Elmo's..Hands down
Best AR is it .. Chameleon should be an SMG, accuracy & range sucks like an SMG
so get closer:) chameleon is fun
i prefer my eagle bearer
Eagle slaps both
Amateurs....noffin can come close to horn, the problem is landing :)
Hehe The mighty Big Horn 💪😁
bighorn batter than
Nah I’m sticking with St.Elmo
Sure! :)
Groupo chest? Yea this is a joke.
Didn't watched the video it seems :)
