Slowdive is simply one of the greatest bands in music history. How a band could return after a 22-year absence and make an album as great as anything they've done, is so unfathomable and triumphant-it's nothing short of a miracle. What a gorgeous song!
My Bloody Valentine did exactly the same too somehow. Two decades to recharge the batteries... Autolux released 3 albums over their 20 years together... I guess good music takes time to brew.
@@elemkay5104 - Slowdive had their career cruelly cut short by fickle music listeners, critics, and quickly abandoned by their label, leaving their releases to collect dust in bargain bins for many years. My Bloody Valentine never suffered nor fell out of favor with music listeners, ever. For Slowdive to make their comeback took great courage and fortitude.
indeed, what a stunning album to return with. i tear up when i think about how gorgeous the release is. looking forward to their next album. thank you slowdive for not giving up, you have something very special going on
When I listen to that I think about the sharing a bed with someone you love at winter, cuddle limitelessly at the early dawn half foggy and half orange at the golden hour in the morning
Rachel Goswell's synthesizer work on this recording outdid the album version. Nice and moody. Wonderful performance by an extremely gifted group of musicians.
5:54 Halstead's expressions seems like either he went through an emotional override by that point or he's feeling something when Rachel's voice kicks in.
This song is a masterpiece, and the live version is better than the album. Can't begin to describe how much I love this song (and album) and how much its helped me over the past few years.
@@arloharnish This is what good mixing sounds like. It's really astounding how many great and widely successful muscians use sub par mixing at their live shows.
cannot believe they returned and made an album arguably as good if not better than their past material. I'm still mindblown at this masterpiece years later.
this song brings me the peace I never felt in my tragic life 😢 I'm on a crisis rn all I think are bad things but when I play it I feel like angels surround me ❤😭
I'm so thankful to God that I stumbled and found this legendary band and its genre its like I found a piece of my soul just by listening to their masterpiece always giving me goosebumps. God bless this band and thank you for all your hardwork May God bless you guys more success and good health.
I’m into music but I always hold off going through albums of newfound bands that I like. I had like two songs by slowdive in my playlists for years and it wasn’t until last month I discovered this masterpiece, arguably more beautiful than the studio version. It’s nice discovering something new and beautiful yet familiar.
I really don’t know where to start with the compliments. But I love the way Rachel and Neil harmonise on Vocals along with her Synth work. Christian is amazing on guitar and Nick on Bass and Simon‘s percussion it’s all just beautiful. Thank You Slowdive.
My go to band for complete serenity and music immersion of the beautiful expression of the instrumental merging with the voices snaps me out of pain, irritation, grief, panic attacks, PTSD, or anxiety. I feel stronger and relaxed and ready to face my feelings after a listen. Plus, I just enjoy their chill music. They are fantastic. I love them so.
One of my younger friends passed away and I inherited his Slowdive albums. They were the later ones. Let’s just say I rediscovered them. Still got it! Beautiful noise.
A couple of years ago I went to see them live. This song came on and it was just perfect. I went by myself and at one point I told the dude next to me that if I was dreaming and I'd want this to be the soundtrack music. Without skipping a beat the dude responded with , "How do you know you're not dreaming right now?" I instantly melted on to the floor into other realities.
Still listening to this three years later and until i am alive on this earth. My kids kids will listen to this masterpiece. I played it for my bird and she started chirping away. Thank you

It took me long to realize how much I love this style of music, maybe because of how off the radar it is. Growing up in the 90s and 00s I never found a single genre of music I could really feel in my soul. "Dream pop/shoegaze" - to the laymen, it might seem lame...but the atmospheric, ethereal feeling is sublime, and you can really tell they put their heart and soul into it. I don't care if everyone else things it's "weird" almost nothing else can compare to music like this.
Guys I can not believe what I heard tonight... You are so amazing. Thanx for the life and have the opportunity to hear you. Thank you guys. You literally made me cry of this masterpiece...
the only word that does justice to the art on display here is - sublime! From the balance in the mix, to the engineering and blending of the guitars; the space created in the song, to the lyrics, to the performance, to the atmospherics - seriously, no band should be this good, and yet, here we are.
I completely agree. There have been so many bands that went on a long hiatus over the years and whenever they came back, most of them seemed to want to go in a completely different direction. So refreshing to have a band stay true to their sound with just enough of a twist to make their sound more current and contemporary. An incredibly hard thing to do and a sign of genius and remarkable musical craftsmanship. Kudos to you Slowdive.

How convenient of you to forget NKOTB in that sweeping statement.

Algorithm sabotage. Well played.
Truly amazing album
I still can't believe Slowdive returned after so many years and made a kick ass album. That shit just doesn't typically happen.
I never thought that the 2017 album was amazingly good. It surpassed my expectations
new one on the horizon too
this what i thought, best come back album
indeed, what a stunning album to return with. i tear up when i think about how gorgeous the release is. looking forward to their next album. thank you slowdive for not giving up, you have something very special going on
Thy really were a god send as is Christians Beachyhead project and the future 2021 Slowdive new new L P.
The intro is a masterpiece itself.
It doesn't even sound like that on the album!
The ending is far better than the album too.
The intro to "Underworld Live Roskilde Festival 1996 29/6" sounds like this intro too, but heavily distorted
... and so is that ending!
When I listen to that I think about the sharing a bed with someone you love at winter, cuddle limitelessly at the early dawn half foggy and half orange at the golden hour in the morning
this song saved me when i was at my lowest.
I have to strongly agree 👍🏼
Saving me right now on this day
It did the same for me, it's truly wonderful.
I just discovered this around 72 hours ago, never knew it existed. I can't describe how this makes me feel.
I recommend listening to the entire album Slowdive (2017). This might be the best one on the record but there are some other great tunes on it.
@@Vagabond-Cosmique Naming a few.. Sugar for the pill, Slowdive(EP), No longer making time, Catch the breeze.... some of my favs
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard for sure
Uh....uhuhhuh, huhuh........
This video needs more haters, yeah. And 🔥.
the intro is so insane it make me feel like I'm in heaven for a while
Goddamn, every time I watch a KEXP live performance video I think they have the best sound engineers on the planet.
The recording team for KEXP should start a production company that produces and records live performances!
They're doing live performances and kexp is in a way a production company. I love them how they are. It's their thing
Makes me wonder if we even deserve something as beautiful as this.
"We need beauty because it makes us ache to be worthy of it." - Mary Oliver
We do.
There are songs that provoke me to wonder exactly that.

Agree. Nothing sounds like a Roland Juno - such a timeless warm organic analog synth sound.
Juno 106
Sublime 💓
Agreed. Actually, though, Goswell only sang on the album. Neil Halsted did the Synth and programmed drums over the live stuff as well.
Pura verdade !!!!! .
slowdive has something so spiritual to them , i love them so much
I feel the same
You'll find that a lot in dream pop
I have to agree , It just hits you in the feels , it makes every moment perfect & makes everything feel right

One of the best intros of all time for me. This song is just a work of art. Absolutely beautiful.

The war on drugs

after 3 long years i can't escape from this song. I'm involved in its sadness and melancholy.

This is mixed so freaking well. Sounds amazing. Great job Kevin Suggs.
Sounds great. Is it in some kind of high definition?
@Digital Awesome :)
@@arloharnish This is what good mixing sounds like. It's really astounding how many great and widely successful muscians use sub par mixing at their live shows.
Star Roving in particular sounds muddy on the record compared to the KEXP mix.
Still can't believe that I saw them live 12 days ago. Slomo has been the first song and I literally cried my heart out ❤
Beautiful music! Slowdive's vibe is so dreamy...
Close the eyes, breath and hear Slowdive. I am in heaven
2023. Still gleefully enjoying every second of this masterpiece and so excited to hear the new album!
