nice video. very clear and easy to follow. Thank you. My question is this: if I have a washer discharge to tie into this pump up, should i plumb in into the same drain coming from the sink into the pump orshould I just have the washer discharge go into the laundry sink? thanks

Hope the video was helpful. I'm not sure I understand your question but I think you're asking should you have the washer discharge its used water into a laundry/utility sink or plumb the washer directly into pipe that feeds into the utility pump. I would say have it discharge into the sink first. if I misunderstood your question please resend it to me.

Plumber quoted me $1700 for this install. Parts are $400 including the sink. Your video is the only one I've seen suggesting an inline valve. Can you explain to me how I might use/adjust this correctly or refer me to a video that explains? Otherwise, your video was exactly what I needed for determining the pvc parts I need to purchase for the install. Thanks!

hey Laura, glad the video was helpful. The inline valve isn't 100% necessary to install the utility sink pump.......in my opinion it makes the installation more efficient. I picked this tip up from watching a video from This Old House.....Rich Trethewey, the show's expert plumber used one in a laundry tub he helped install and I figured he seems to know what he's doing!....... The valve simply lets you match the speed of the water being discharged by the utility pump with the speed of the water being dumped into the sink by the washing machine. if your washer pumps water out of its wash tub slowly and the utility pump discharges it out very quickly, the utility sink pump will cycle on/off many more times than necessary during a laundry wash cycle. Opening / closing the valve allows you the ability to adjust or meter the flow of water out of the utility pump to match the flow of water coming into it. Again, its probably not 100% required for the installation but its a cheap/easy addition and gives you complete flexibility / adjustability. Hope I'm making sense to you and good luck. Kris

Is this a better pump than the Saniswift? I’m needing to add one to a remodel. Great content

I can't comment whether or not its better since I haven't installed a Saniswift pump. What I can say is that Zoeller has been around for a long time. its well built and constructed. the basin pump kit assembles very easily and lastly i spoke to professional plumbers who I trust and they said its what they would install. one last thing was I thought the value for the price was exceptional. good luck.

So the vent stack does not have to connect to the existing house vent ? Just wondering.. thanks!

So if you watch enough videos or read enough blogs on this topic you will hear both options....Dwefinitely must be connected into the house vent stack! ........or it does not require a connection into the house vent stack. I thoroughly read the manufacturer's assembly and installation instructions. The instructions state for a stand alone utility sink the kit's vent does NOT need to be connected to the house plumbing vent stack. To get a second opinion and make sure I was reading the inastallation procedures correctly, I also consulted my a long time friend who has owned a plumbing business for 30+ years. My plumber spoke very highly of this product and says he does not (for a utility sink installation) connect the kit's vent to the house vent stack. he simply finishes the vent with a 180 degree return to prevent debris from entering the stack. hope this helps and good luck.

I was considering a Zoeller unit like that but alot of amazon reviews say the switch isnt sealed good and allows water in and short out the switch .

I can't say I've had that experience. To the contrary I've had no issues or problems with the unit at all. It is a heavy duty professional grade unit. the unit was referred to me by a 30+ year plumber because I had questions when I was deciding what unit to purchase. I can tell you that I looked at the pumps sold in the big box stores and they do not compare in quality or robustness. Again, I can only comment on my experience with it thus far its been zero issues. good luck!
