The Nelson Monument on Calton Hill has a black ball atop it which rises up a pole just before the gun goes off; when the gun fires the ball drops and ships in the harbours having their spyglasses trained on it know the exact time is 1pm.
Is this really the 1st episode? It's starts strange for an opening on a season. I did watch this years ago. I thought it started in roman times. Can anyone help me with what I need to search for please if this isn't the start. Kind regards

Been up Scott's monument, not fir people who can't stand tight spaces, tiny stairs people squeezing past to go up and down, great views tho at the top
If you're claustrophobic there are great views from Calton Hill too.
