Remember, common sense wise he needed help to win it, (as did Roman to retain but he’s a heel) Cody a babyface just doesn’t have the same aura around him that Roman did.
I mean, realistically if Cody is gonna be believed as a good successor to Roman, he would need to probably have the title at least a year. I wouldn’t say he doesn’t have the same aura, but they are different auras

If they continue to book Cody the way they're right now I can possibly see a lot of the fans turn on him as soon as Summerslam. Similar to what happened to Cena in 05.
How do you book a babyface Cody without people turning on him now that he's the top dog he's not the underdog anymore so the underdog stuff won't work.

It didn’t happen where the crowd was turning on Cena until at least 06 maybe even 07. Even then, he just wasn’t like super over with the adult crowd.

I think Bischoff recently said that Cody should eventually turn heel, that it suited him best. This long Bloodline story gives him some way to do that. Something would need to "distort" him. Not sure what.

Roman stopped defending at backlash after he unified the titles. So after a year half of pretty much defending at every ppv but 2 of them, he asked for a break more because he was on tv every week and did the house shows.
Till the following title matches are done:
Cody vs Rock
Cody vs Cena
Cody vs Orton
Cody vs CM Punk
Cody vs Gunther
Cody vs Logan Paul
All these matches will be great, the last for technical reasons.

Yep. I just mentioned this! If Cody does well but the fans are getting bored still (because Wrestling fans are inpatients) maybe turn heel if booked right. At the end of the day the reign last longer depending on the champion and the booking!
@adriansmith5279 you know what I'm going to say this I think everyone would like to see Cody turn heel as the homelander type of character. He already looks like Homeland with his ring gear, so why not have them turn heel to be like this homelander character doing things in a good way but to the extreme. Basically like he's not a good guy, and he's not a bad guy he's like not an anti-hero he's like a good guy. Just do bad things. I forgot the actual name of it, but yeah.

4-6 months he deserves to have a credible run with the gold but the fans hate to see baby face champions (they get bored so easily) and he can't stack up to the bloodline story no one could really so it will always fall short with the IWC
baby faces could have great reigns--it's just that they can't be too boring and goodie 2 shoes. if Cody was a bit of a bad ass, he could keep it a bit longer. But the Super Cena path he's going towards is gonna get so boring

@@petersonofleo11 YES! man thank you for reminding me of Dave’s first run. it’s definitely possible for a face to have a valid run like he did before he got injured. Cena started getting his boos in early 06 but i think Batista still would’ve been cheered cuz his character was built on being a no nonsense bad ass. hell, his mic skills kinda sucked but we he was still massively over. Cody needs a character tweak and fast or else he’ll be Benoit post-WM20, a forgettable run with a boring character.
What I really loved about the story between Cody Vs Roman, is that their interactions were far and few in between the two years. Barely laid a finger on one another prior to their matches. It was great building and intensity
The only person i see him dropping the Title to is The Rock. So, Id say he should keep the title until either Survivor series or Royal rumble, drop the title to Rock, so that now Rock will have that heel heat for his build up to Roman Vs Rock at mania. After dropping the title, Cody gets attacked by the Rock's new Bloodline (Jacob Fatu, Toma Tonga, and Solo) and is written off TV until his Surprise return at Mania to help Roman fight off the Bloodline.
I say all the way till next years summerslam in my opinion.

Wrestling fans only wanting world titles to change at either a summerslam or wrestlemania are the exact reason why new fans wont get invested. Thats why too formulaic to bring in any new viewers. I hope HHH doesnt listen to these horrible ideas

As you mentioned, the chase is always more exciting. In my opinion, the problem with Cody (and most other babyfaces) is that they arent inherently interesting characters on their own most of the time. Cody's mission was to get the title and all the intringue came from his challenges getting there. Now that hes there, it feels like hes lost a lot of what made his story compelling.
6-12 months depending on the quality of storylines, matches( in both TV and PPV) from wrestlemania onward; could add even merch sales or maybe some other factors i have not considered.
I’m a huge Cody fan. I want him to at least have the title till next year but I also want other stars to push him. It’s up to wwe to keep Cody hot. You have to make stories for Cody to keep up the mystique of being the guy now being the top clean babyface wwe.
At least until next years Wrestlemania

Well I wouldn’t be surprised once the Netflix deal takes place, they’ll want Roman back holding the title. Just how the network had kofi drop the title because they wanted Brock as champion
It’s hard to say. We just had that title reign from Roman that lasted so insanely long so I don’t know if you have a lengthy one right off the back of that. It all depends on how Cody can keep going while being champion since sometimes, some people are better chasers. That’s why Austin never had any lengthy title reign. Not sure. I don’t think in the next few months, but maybe within a year? He could always get it back shortly after (again, like Austin would back in the day).
If I have to pick a specific PLE on when to lose it, I’d say Survivor Series

This the question I've been asking myself for while, It should be long enough to balance out the run. numbers wise I'll leave up to you guys. next year summer slam, key word sustain that's all I'm worried.
Gotta have good booking, good feuds, good angles, and get someone to help him punch up his promos. I'm a Cody fan and want him to do well.

I'd say it makes sense for it to be a year. Just as a way for the reigns to slowly lighten up as you really can't just go from 3 years to 3 months. So for next two to three champions slowly lower it further until u have 6 to 8 month reigns
He'll probably turn heel towards the end of his reign when Roman comes back he'll be a babyface

The question isn’t how long Cody should hold the title, but who should feud because feuds will determine how long his reign will be seen as legitimate. For example: a feud with Randy can propel him being champion for 3 months, the bloodline can last 6-9 months, a feud with Logan can last like a month, so the question is:
what type of champion should Cody be, and how should we demonstrate that.
If people get bored of him then the best thing for wwe is for him is to turn heel in the mist of holding the title.

Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton is a fued that I know is gonna COOK for Wrestlemania🔥. Hell I’ll be ok with Cody maybe dropping the title there. Who knows if they’ll do something with Gunther or John Cena down the line for Cody’s title.
I'm down with it but they should have more than just one match though wrestlemania and next year backlash and money in the bank......if you want this rivalry it has to be more than 1 match
I'd say one year, as a babyface. But if he turns heel, I think he could add a few more months. We could be looking at a good 16 to 18 month title reign.
It's too early to say how long exactly but the reign should be at the same magnitude as the chase was so 1 or 2 years or it could go even longer depending on the possibilities of the feuds, his opponents, how much over he can stay or him turning heel, but aside from that we know that he is holding the championship until the rock is back which most likely will be until mania 41

Remember the story that was told for Christian after Edge retired and relinquish the world title? He won against Del Rio and the lost it to Randy the SmackDown after the ppv. I don't think Cody is losing to AJ because that would be to fast. I could see him losing at Survivor Series against (ready for it) Logan Paul or Gunther if he's drafted to Smackdown
I would say 6 months to a year. Definitely not near the title run Roman had but it should be for a lengthy time. It wouldn’t make sense that he finally finished his story but loses the title within a month or two. Now he has the opportunity to defend the title against people he hasn’t faced as much like AJ Styles.
Lets see if gunther goes to smackdown. He is the most relevant heel now

Summer Slam 2025. I think dethroned by Gunther, Randy, or Bron Breaker (with Paul Heyman). Bron defeated him with Paul would be such a great story.
Crazy how we just came off a long title reign and people want another long title reign. I wish Randy woulda beat him for the title and then we got a program where cody got it back like a PLE or 2 later. Tell the story sorta like Izzy and Alex, where Randy just has his number, so Cody has to dig down deep to get out of his head, and conquer Randy.

HBK won back to back Rumbles, won the title with his second mania match and held it until Survivor Series. I think it all depends on how good his run is. Don't just pencil him in for 12+ months. Let's see if he can keep this momentum. Fans always turn on the noble babyfaces. As far as retaining at 41 goes, he just got arguably the greatest Mania moment of all time. I'm not gonna cry if he doesn't get another one next year.

romans title reign length has altered many peoples way of thinking of the championship. Codys reign doesnt have to be long, he can lose and win it again as long as its a good fued it doesnt matter about the length. eg if John Cena and Randy Orton had a fued, no one would care about the length of the champion, as long as the fued is good.

Until the next good story presents itself. I think that’s how it should always be. If the champion being the champion is the best story then more power to them. That’s what makes a great wwe champion. No Roman means a good chance for everyone to step up and make noise

I would have him hold it until after Mania but have him turn heel in the middle of his reign to switch up before they all completely switch up on him. And when he retains at Mania have him retain in a heel like fashion and then maybe have like a face cash in on him with the MITB briefcase.

He should hold it until Wrestlemania, and The Final Boss has already alluded to wanting to win this title, if TFB becomes available after this tear's Summer-slam, they can start developing that storyline and have them face each other at Wrestlemania 41, rock wins and holds it until at least summerslam next year, and then we have Old Bloodline Vrs New Bloodline and Have Jey beat the Rock to win it at WM42.
