At 78, my limit now is about 600 miles a day (1000 km's). The fun has gone for the long hauls and now I prefer to do more scenic, wandering backroads for less distance. But I used to LOVE those long haul trips....
You certainly know how to ride the miles, I did a 300 mile trip through the Lake District, England two week ends ago. Being the first ride since January with this covid 19 lockdown, I was totally knackered and it was only 300 miles 1000 in a day is hard to comprehend. Well done...
Thanks buddy! Feel like I was in.a bit of a "funk" for awhile but since that trip (which was sooo much fun) I've been on the bike a TON! Lots of fun rides and lots of great videos to come.
Wished I’d know you were coming through I would have ridden up to Hell to buy you lunch! I live off 23, just north of Milan at the Willis exit. There are great roads out in the Pinckney state game area if you get up this way again, I’ll show you around. 1290 super duke, love those 1301’s! Well done, Mario.
Well done, i love the long distance rides and you just inspired me to go do another, just need to sort my tires out. Thanks for great content as always. Ride safe
Good to see you back on the bike again. Just got mine back from the dealer today with a brand new tank. Bike was outta warranty but KTM covered it so I'm happy with that.
Mario - Great video. I have always thought about doing a iron butt ride. I have many long days in the saddle just never documented it. Looks like we will be visiting WV next year in June as the MSTA Rally was announced for Canaan Valley. Hoping we can catch up with you then, as we will spend some extra time in your great state. Keep up the great work! the Podcast is great as well. You are killing it!
Congrats Mario, no small feat, you made it look almost enjoyable! Great editing, repeated acceleration out of corners, (one of the most fun things things on a bike, especially a big, torquey twin!). Having the WX radar info must have helped keep from getting too bummed in the rain at start. So hard to watch bikes having to stay in long, backed up lines, as we here in Calif. just split the lanes, (carefully and, according to law, only 5-10mph faster than traffic,,,,). License plate frame is funny.
Thanks Jerry; much appreciated! I so wish more states will started allowing lane splitting/filtering. After riding in Europe last summer, it's hard to obey the law here.
Awesome!!! I've been looking forward to ur trip vids and this one was great! And you came thru my city Columbus...rush hour traffic is a ton better since most folks are working from home
I guess I should've let you know I was coming through so you could stand on an overpass with a sign that said "RIDE FASTER!" 😂 Hope you're doing well, man!
Hi Mario. I've ridden many of those same roads. Keep going north on I-75 and you will run into me sometime...as soon as the border re-opens lol. Enjoyed the video. Thanks and hope you keeping ok during this Covid.
I guess im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Matthias Garrett thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Man I enjoyed this video of your ride, thanks. I live really close to you actually in Clarke Cty VA and have a Multistrada 1200S, was thinking of switching to a big tourer to do a SS1000 but if you can do it on a Super Adventure I am greatly encouraged to try it on the Multi.
Did San Francisco to Van (plus sixty to make an even 1K) summer 15. Great experience that I feel every rider should do if the opportunity arises. Takes a bit of planning if you're new to distance touring, but absolutely worth it. Cheers.
Hey man, I just recently picked up a brand new 1290 adventure r and I'm loving it so far. I watched your video that you made close to three years ago now about how to check your chain tension to make sure it's correct. As far as I can tell, my chain is where it needs to be but i am noticing quite a bit of "chain slap." The main gears I notice it in are 5th and 6th. All I have to do is coast while rolling the throttle slightly and the thing slaps and rattles fairly loud. Just wondering if you experience the same thing.
Man o day! What a ride! I have done several IBA runs (highest BBGold), and I ride cross country a Lot! I also noticed you ride KTM and not sure if you’re up to it, but I’m like 30 minutes away across the line in PA (ok 45 cause I’m in Mercersburg), and I’d love to ride some time! We gotta have a similar outlook although I’m on a Hwy Sofa (HD Ultra). Ever get a hankerin to ride to hell n back! Let me know, or just grab a drink along our byways!
Great title! Congrats on the ride, bummer about the camera. I came through that stretch of 50 on a trip back from Columbus a while back, it sure looks different in daylight! Stopped at that same Exxon and Sheetz (It was a car trip, a bit cold for the bike, didn't see a temp above freezing on the way out until PA). Next time someone tells you to go to Hell you can tell them you've been there twice!
LOL! Thanks for the congrats on the ride and still trying to figure out how that camera frame broke. I mean, I've used that same style mount on tons of trips including Alaska...but Hell killed it.
No discomfort. For more insight check out the latest episode of the 2 Wheeled Rider Podcast (available on all major podcast platforms) I go into great detail about the ride.
Congrats........I have a 2017 KTM SA-T, I would need to splurge and pay the $300 for the KTM Ergo Seat in order to put in that kind of mileage in a day. On a long day like that do you listen to music or podcasts while riding? Maybe I missed a video about it, but what KLIM gear you wearing and how's it holding up? I've been very happy with my Latitude jacket and pants. Stay safe.....
Try a sheepskin first...works for me. Normally music...sometimes podcasts. I'm wearing the Carlsbad gear. Plan do to a video on it at some point but wanted to get enough ride time with it to do it justice.
Nice work! I just don't think I could do The But Burner. Most mile I've done in one day was 750. I just felt like I was holding on to the grips. I guess its mind over matter.. I do miss the WV roads though!!
F-NG awesome video you literally Road through my hometown in 0H got a fully modded dl1 k down for the Iron Butt challenge been riding the bdr out here local hope to hookup sometime I'm out here in the valley in VA thanks for the video I'm stoked
Thx! Don’t really want anything louder for touring purposes. Don’t really “need” anymore power. Weight savings you be nice but at the cost of a good slip on, rather just put that money toward traveling.
I did the SS1000 three days ago. 1030 miles in 17 hours 11 minutes. At 50 years old I thought I would be hating life but I didn't feel bad at all. It was fun but at the same time kind of boring.
Good job Mario. Next Up Bun Bunner Gold, I know who can do it you are Yong enough. I know what it takes to do these I have done a quite a few plus the BB-G. They are not easy to do, it takes a strong metal prep. Also who is the Dip Sh&t who gave you a thumbs down. Hopefully When I retire I will have plenty of time to do more Iron Butt Challenges . Maybe we can drag Rusty on one
Thanks Mike. Agreed, I need a BBG next. I'm trying to talk Rusty into doing one, I think he's game. As for the thumbs down...seems to happen pretty much every video these days. As long as most people are enjoying the videos, I'm good. Hope you're doing well!
@@2WR Cheers, legal in Australia now in most states, so long the traffic is going below 30-40 Km/hr... I got the same bike, I'll look into an Iron Butt here.. Thanks for the inspiration..
A crazy thing is I got into Channel because you had an FJR and I was looking to trade up from the V-Strom but I've been watching everyone and maybe it was a mistake and I need to stick with the adventure bike and just upgrade to the KTM I'm just scared of the reliability or I would have done it already you are pushing me in that direction🤣🤣🤣🤣
At 66 I’ve never been much for paying for a piece of paper to prove be I rode my Motorcycle. But the I’m thinking of changing my ways to prove to all the young bikers that a old man can still out tide many. Ok really it would just be fun and a excuse to ride. I’ve done over 1000 over 8 times and not on a very nice bike. My Army days.
At 78, my limit now is about 600 miles a day (1000 km's). The fun has gone for the long hauls and now I prefer to do more scenic, wandering backroads for less distance. But I used to LOVE those long haul trips....
Saddlesore in the rain and windy conditions. Respect. Well done.
Thanks for sharing. I just completed my first iron butt ride on my Sportster and it’s premiering on my channel next week!

Great job on the editing. Interesting and very well done!
Great job! Handled like a true Iron Butt rider!
That’s awesome man!! Great video and ride. Inspiring!
Thanks buddy! Feel like I was in.a bit of a "funk" for awhile but since that trip (which was sooo much fun) I've been on the bike a TON! Lots of fun rides and lots of great videos to come.
1000 miles is insane! I did 732 last month, and that was my best day ever. Pittsburgh to Savannah. I guess 800 is the next goal.
Great ride!!! Congrats for the Iron Butt. Stay safe!
Thanks Paul!

great to see you're back in the saddle!!!
Been getting a lot of riding in lately and loving it.
Thanks so much for posting been lot of long miles myself but never Iron Butt yours was better than most thanks so much

Glad to hear you got it back and that they covered it!
I did my first IB Saddle Sore 1000 on 6/13/2020. Did a big loop of NY State. It took 18 hours and 30 mins... Congrats Mario
Congrats Alan!
Nice ride , you were in my neck of the woods on that trip. I live in Jackson about 30 minutes from hell

Nice!!! Hard to resist those slalom courses they set up for you!!

Awesome, congratulations, well done!
Thank you very much!
Well done Mario ! Thinking often of last year ! FB keeps reminding me of it :-)
Thanks Alain! And yes, wish we could be doing that again right now.
Cool! Two years ago I did a BunBurner (1,500+ miles in 36 hrs) from Hell Michigan to Back Texas.
That's awesome! I need to get a BB or BBG at some point.
36 hours straight is very commendable. The highest of fives, sir.

Back into West by God Virginia! Love that, never heard that before!
Really thinking about attempting the SS1000 one day. Great video!
You should definitely attempt one.
Well done sir! You just got me thinking about doing the same. Thank you.

Great trip, rockin’ the Randy Savage Macho Man beard.
Oooooooh yea!
Super entertaining video dude, thanks. Also, I wish there were Sheetz out here in California, they’re great.

Man, I was wondering did you have to make extra stops for chain maintenance? I have to clean/lube chain every 400mi
No...shouldn't need maintenance every 400 miles on the street
Since it's my first bike I've been just following the owners manual. I wonder how far I can go....something for me to test out! Thanks!
Great job! How boring does it get and how do you deal with discomfort?
No discomfort. For more insight check out the latest episode of the 2 Wheeled Rider Podcast (available on all major podcast platforms) I go into great detail about the ride.

Unfortunately not. Only a few stated allow it and Michigan isn't one.
