Injured seal DRAGGING NET

- [Sound on] Day 9 of Ocean Conservation Namibia"s (OCN) campaign to rescue 100 seals in one month: Namib_Naude and Antoine caught six seals! Watch the rescue of seal 23 and 27 from 09 May 2020 for #100SealsForTime.
The first seal had a large piece of green trawler net wrapped around his neck. Naude spotted him while busy with a different successful animal rescue. He caught the seal by the net, which the injured seal was dragging behind him. Antoine quickly raced to fetch the net, and the seal could be safely contained to be cut free with our reliable Leatherman raptor tool. He was not injured, but he was very skinny as he was not able to hunt fish for a while. Throwing this peace of net into the ocean caused unnecessary suffering and animal cruelty.
The last seal of the day, seal 27, had a piece of white packing strap wrapped around his neck. We had tried to catch him a few times before, but he always escaped into the water, before we could contain him. Naude and Antoine caught him with the seal capture net at the very last second and quickly cut him loose.
Swakopmund and Walvis Bay have a thriving fishing industry, and lots of plastic rubbish ends up on the beaches of the Skeleton Coast, hurting our local wildlife. Please help us to help seals escape certain death from entanglement from ocean rubbish. Sustainability is not a priority for most industries, leading to pollution and climate change. We need to change that. 🦭

At this point, I wonder if the seals know you as those crazy humans who chase them out of nowhere. Great work 👏
Good question! Most of them don't seem to like us very much...
namib_naude ungrateful seals >:C
@@OceanConservationNamibia
Only a few them are smart enough to understand you're helping them.
@@OceanConservationNamibia they're not dumb!!! They'll start to figure it out.
You know the mom told her pup "well....that crap IS off me now."
I just learned that a lot of these seals in Namibia get clubbed to death by poachers 😢 I was googling these seals because I thought they were so cute and found all these images and I wanted to cry
Imagine the satisfaction when the net is finally gone.
it must be like when youre sick and one side of your nose is stuffed and then it clears up for a minute on its own
@@kyo4973 I imagine it to feel a bit like taking off my bra after a long day. *if* the bra was about 2 sizes too small and made of non elastic fabric literally cutting into the flesh...

These seals must be so confused, They get captured by those frightening big things and then end up in a dark place for a bit and end up leaving seemingly without a struggle and feeling a lot better.
The very thought of what would have gone to these seals without your intervention is scary. 6 in a day is absolutely outstanding. You are doing great work.
Thank you very much!
The moment that seal realised that he was being helped and not about to be eaten must’ve been the most surreal moment for the little guy. Well done good humans more of you please.
i hate anime Maybe he isn’t one.... 👽
i hate anime man on your about section you kinda talk like your not one too.
Anybody who eats meat pays strangers to kill and dismember innocent animals for you.
@@veganm8918 Says the plants murderer.
@@dream0504 except that animals eat 15 lbs of plants to make 1lb of meat. You are responsible for killing a lot more plants. So now that you are educated about it perhaps time to make a change?
These dudes literaly rescue water creatures for a living!
That's the coolest job ever
Yeah imagine yourself doing this job and share it at your kids’ school. It’s like telling those kids that your job is a superman!
Watching some of the older videos I'm remain amazed at the strength and courageousness of the crew of Ocean Conservation Namibia.
You guys are truly a wonder as is your equipment. I take it your net was designed by you and specially made. Also your tools, scissors & other cutting implements, were designed specifically for the work you & others do. Never seen any like them & I am a seamstress with MANY different kinds of scissors.
Thank you for all your many kindnesses. Hopefully your work will inspire the rest of us to be more mindful of surroundings & the effect we have on them. Bless you.
Our pleasure!
The scissors they use are bandage scissors, a common sight in the medical world. I've tried to recommend to them that they use a device called a hemostat or needle driver to grasp and pull the deeply embedded lines, I hope they try it.
Dang he really goes fast for these seals.
Like, thats so fast.
He’s an legend.
:-)
Fast and strong !!
They should hire the fastest person in the world
@Mark Hepworth still better than you who probably only speaks one language. I always laugh at monolingual people making fun of bilinguals

Debie Baugher IT actually looks like a raving claw while in there
These guys are hero’s in my book! Thank you!
I agreed!!
Brilliant work every one. I wonder if you were to keep doing this for years, eventually over the life times of the seals they would get to know you so well they would come to you and form an orderly line
2:34 "This is it, this is how I'm going to die."
3:19 "Wait, they're not killing me?"

Holy crap, I've been watching you for weeks and never realised how small of a channel this is. You're really doing the lord's work, well done.
Wow, thanks! Hopefully our channel will grow a bit. Thank you for supporting us.
Nothing to do with make believe, these people are doing what they need to do to help animals, it's their achievement. Well done to them for being awesome.

nickys34 you have issues and everything has to be political with you people

nickys34 hasn’t left his moms basement in years .
@nickys34 I think you are high, you believe fish in an human less sea belong to you and aren't another specie in the food chain competing for survival like every specie on this planet.
Seals are way faster than I thought, they can really take off when they need to.
I can see how you all have kept so fit during lockdown. Haha.
Those are sea lions not seals, seals cant move even at half speed of sea lions on land.

aowi7280 hopefully they don’t,the worst thing a species can do is become comfortable with humans. Chances are the wrong person comes along and they walk straight into his trap

This is so dope god bless them for helping all these animals
Why do stupid fishermen discard their unwanted nets into the sea 😱
Because sadly, most humans are dumb
Because they don't care for marine life.
I wonder if the fishermen just cut the seal out with the section of net. Then patch the net. The seal may be going into the net to steal fish and then getting caught itself.
Sometimes net got stuck at coral or rock, and they have to cut it loose. And sometime they just ignorant, threw away broken net.
Honey, 60 to 70 percent of plastic in the oceans is from fishing gear.
2:25 Watch out, that traffic cone is alive 👀
Hahaha!
Thanks for helping poor animals. I salute you .God bless you .

Wow thank you guys for what you do. This brought me to tears seeing how reckless humans are with their waste. I want to seriously thank you guys for doing this
You guys are truly heroes and the best of humanity. Keep up the wonderful work.
I’m sure they’ll go back to tell their friends how they been helped. 😂
They don't have sophisticated language. There's no way for them to pass on the information. Their vocabulary is limited to: my fish, my female, mom, baby, stay away, swim, no. That's about it. To convey their experience, they would say: swim, no, swim, no, no, swim, swim. The listening seal will think it's a story about sharks.
Kind of like an alien abduction. !!!!!

This whole time I thought it was the seal and I'm feeling bad that they're breathing hard while struggling
They have the camera in the mouth because the chest is to low and the head is too high which means you can hear them breathing very loud
This like when you go to the doctor and you have to get a shot and you act like you're dying.😂🤣
Ever have a knee injection? Those hurt. A lot.
Thank you for all that you are doing for the seals. 🙏
