Baby seal with BARBED WIRE rescued

- Three of six seal rescues from 12 May 2020 for our NGO Ocean Conservation Namibia!
The first seal (the one from the thumbnail) had a looped white para cord wrapped around her chest, it had caused a deep cut on her left shoulder. The animal was weak and thin when Naude and Antoine came for her rescue. She was probably not able to hunt. After the seal rescue, she was able to run a lot better. This little piece of string had caused a lot of animal cruelty.
The second seal was a small pup with a thin piece of fishing line around his neck. The line was quickly cut off, the damage was very visible. He was very sweet and did not want to run away like most seals. He stuck around for a while and was very curious and sweet to Naude.
Antoine found the third seal while Naude Dreyer was busy with the previous one. This pup had a piece of steal cable wrapped tightly around his front left flipper, causing major damage. They cut it of with a Leatherman tool and let the seal baby go. She would have been a case for seal rehab. Unfortunately we do not have seal rehab facilities. Yet.
We are happy with the progress of our seal rescue campaign #100SealsForTime. We have now caught 35 seals since 01 May! 🦭

See the last one limping away was heart breaking.
It really was. Poor girl was limping.
hopefully the sea gods heal him and make him whole again
@@johnny-wi3bp the salt water will work wonders for the seal, he will be healed up in no time
@@traida111 But until then, her ability to hunt is severely compromised. They need to give little treats to the ones with small issues, and big meals to those that need it while they heal, or capture, rehab and release for the serious cases like her. Even a day out of the wild and a few meals could've seriously improved her chances.
@@Acecoolpeople cant feed them or they become deendant on humans. They are tough and can catch fish even with injuries. They have been given enough to survive thanks to the healing salt water
she wasn’t using her flipper 😭🥺🥺
No. It must have been very painful. But luckily the salt water helps with the healing process.
@@OceanConservationNamibia That's good to know. Still i am surprised how many seals have so many things tangled in them.
@@OceanConservationNamibia It'd burn so bad though :(
@@xxxlostxxxxx Those big guys must be incredibly strong to endure all this pain so they should be ok with the burning saltwater, I hope so ^^
@@xxxlostxxxxx Nah. You know how when you have a cut on your leg and then go for a swim in the ocean? It stings when you first step in, but then the pain goes away. I'm guessing it's the same for them.
These are the only type of UA-cam recommendations that's worthy enough to binge watch❤️🇮🇳
Absolutely agree 🥰
You think these seals are ever like “damn ever since I met up with that weird human I’ve felt a lot better”
They don't ever think that, but they feel the same thing and gratitude almost
They’re quite intelligent and animals have a sixth sense. I think they know you’re trying to help them (or at least figure it out at some point) much the same as a dog would.
They often relax when they feel the entanglements being cut, when Antoine sweet talks them, or when they are given a gentle pet on the midst of being freed. Like #5 here sometimes they linger as if they know they were helped and want to thank those who helped them. I think they do know and appreciate it, especially the ones who were in a lot of pain or who had begun to weaken due to the entanglement.
I’d imagine the seals would be aware of being freed from something entangling them at time and feel some relief right away, even though not fully healed.
#5 was thanking you. As will I. Thank you sir!
It definitely felt like it. He was very cute.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
He's soo stinking cute!! 😍
And you went back to your life enjoying fish dishes.
I don’t think there’s any other response besides gratitude, and if not gratitude then some level of trusts
Idky these were suggested to me, but I can’t stop watching them.
Same! It's past 1am here, I'm on video 5 with no plans on stopping anytime soon...
BRAVE NEW ORDER FILMS fore me it’s 6:41 am
I was suggested just 10 minutes ago and now I'm binge watching their channel.
TRUE.
SAAMEEEE, COINCIDENCE?!? I THINK NOT
The last one limping away breaks my heart 😢😢
Vegans are not to blame for sea fishing nets.
Be vegan! 💕
Each animal is a soul like you. 🐬
That last pup broke my heart. She was really injured. She couldnt put weight on her injured flipper poor thing. Hope she was able to heal up quickly.
I don't think they'll ever fully recover from that. Did you see it? An entire chunk of her fin was missing. Poor thing.
What i observed in these videos is that young pups remain so calm after the rescue even after enduring so much pain
Some of them are very relaxed. Others try and bite us, even after the rescue. Pity we can't talk to them and ask them to sit still...
@Dusk Dawg That is always a risk with helping/rehabilitating wild animals. Impossible to completely avoid unfortunately.
Because i think the babies are very innocent and are yet to realize the cruelty of humans hunting helpless seals...the adults have seen enough and out of fear and rage they even attack the rescuers....
@IMxYOURxDADDY ua-cam.com/video/smOkdP_kD8k/v-deo.html
I never wish for you guys to get bitten, you are the good guys. But I do respect the bitey ones because they are fighting to live with this entanglement that is often strangling them, causing them a lot of pain, making them weak and threatening their life. They have no way of untangling themselves and I'm sure they are desperate. Even the bitey ones often calm when they feel you cutting away the thing that's hurting them. I think they appreciate the help even if they are a bit grouchy.
Everybody is saying "lets save the world" not knowing how. Thats why people like him are cleaning up the mess we've done.
Often it's the small acts of kindness that make all the difference. This month, we saved 100 seals already, and hopefully some more this morning, from our kayaks.
Subtle History of the Entire World reference? ;P
The truth is, individual acts like this are huge, but not everyone has the opportunity to do something like this. And not every way of helping looks this virtuous and satisfying. We need systemic change because what often goes down due to giant corporations simply cannot be fixed by people working 9-5 jobs. Change is happening in the US though, and what started out as a boiling point after an unjust death could become so much more if we don't allow the protests to be stoped out.
@@OceanConservationNamibia that's amazing! I really hope I could one day do the same
Shes still on a boat now
I can only say THANK YOU to you and the entire team for what you are doing for the critters. God bless you all.
Thank you guys so very much for all you do for the seals. Angels on earth!!!👍❤️👏
Our pleasure!
The Last one☹️😞
It was a very tough one. Nobody deserves this.
Last one was so cute, she was most likely fearing for her life after being caught but rather than being eaten she realised you helped her
go team go. thank you for all you are doing
"He could now move much more easier"
Seal:*Falls twice*
😢
Bahaa
Happens with a lot of them. Happened to me after deep massage. When you have an injury, you adapt to moving with it. When the entanglement is gone, suddenly your motions are way off. Like when you try to pick up a full container of milk, but it's empty so you lift it way up in the air. Quickly they will adapt to their new situation, though, and be better off.
I've only recently discovered your channel but bless you all! As a former ER vet tech this makes me sad but the amount of relief you are giving them is enormous. I'm envious, I wish I was there to help 💕 thank you on behalf of all marine life 🙏
Man I feel bad for these seals
1. They have a giant plastic thing on them and don’t know how to get it off
2. Giant ape creatures are scaring them
3. They are then trapped in a net
4. They think they are going to die
But then they are safe at least
Perfect summary.
Nice summary dude. It’s funny and I love it!
Event the process that saves them is streessful if only we wouldn't have done this in the first place
They're not apes, they're humans.
@@1godonlyone119 yeah, I'm pretty sure seals are not familiar with apes!
Bro, why am I watching these videos. I feel like crying everytime lol
:)
❤️❤️❤️спасибо Вам ребята, Вы делаете такое доброе дело!!! Вы настоящие мужчины!!! 😘
😊 большое спасибо
Last one broke my heart, I hope he's healed 😔
Bless her, she's flinching with the pain. Afterwards she's all confused with this new feeling.
Is it that hard NOT to throw trash in the ocean?! That poor girl has a seriously damaged flipper!
Most of our rubbish comes from fishing vessels. Seals eat a lot of fish, and fishermen are competing for the same resource. Many of them have no feelings for seals at all. We will have to change the laws, or give incentive to return used fishing line.
@@OceanConservationNamibia I wish you good fortune on that. I have no idea on laws.
You can thank 3rd world countries for the most part. They're the ones who don't care about pollution
@@AnthonyTrifoglio where do you think developed countries waste is going?
@@AnthonyTrifoglio
I live in a small city in the Netherlands and we currently have a sudden 'wave' of people going outside.
But the trash-cleaning-companies are still not working properly.
We have a mayor that doesn't give two shits about the environment. And super-tiny garbage-cans.
The result is currently, our streets being absolutely filled with trash. We're not wading through it yet, but not far from it either.
Normally I'd clean it up and pick up all the litter, because it gets blown into the rivers, by the wind.
But for this one time, I decided to leave it and instead, take pictures and ask the city-council to do it. I might start cleaning again in a few days.
Don't suggest it's about poor countries. There are plenty of careless litterbugs in rich countries to fuck up the environment.
I feel like a child, seeing how adorable they are and desperately wanting to hug them!! 😍😍🥰🥰
Thank you guys for all you do for the seals and marine life. You are brave and heroes! 💞
Thank you so much for what you are doing! We need more people like you guys
This makes me furious! We are so grateful you were able to free this wonderful creature! Rules and regulations are to protect our animals from people that do this sort of thing! Thank God you were there! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for caring about them so much!

So happy to see these. Thank you so much for helping them! You are heroes!
Barbed wire is a nasty thing to get caught in. I've had my own entanglements with it and still have the scars, lol. You guys are true heroes.
Ohh when they realize the kindness they just stay 😍 that's so cute!
Namid naude: sees seal with a barbed wire
Also namid naude: prepare to get saved!
I love the seals get saved💓👍
Thank you :-)
@IronyFalseLogical I think they mentioned further up that the salt water helps with the healing process. Think of big whales and shark who are often covered in scars from fights etc. Most likely the seal will be fine, permanently damaged, but fine.
The younger ones make a half hearted effort to defend themselves then are really quite calm considering what's happening to them!
Both rescues were so calm and GRATEFUL ...so sweet 💞
Просто восхищаюсь Вашей благородной работой!!!!
I love it when the seals understand that you are helping them, and in a way thank you! So wholesome, makes my day😊
I imagine myself doing this and every time I'd be saying 'I know im sorry I'm sorry' while cutting cords
The last one was so heartbreaking... Hope she becomes well in days
oh my god, you can really see how thankful that baby was!! thank you for doing this! you folks are amazing and make me proud to be in the human race!
My heart breaks for these awesome animals 💔 thank you so much for your hard work and passion for helping them!
You are so kind, thank you. Our animals deserve so much better, we are glad we can help at least some of them.
@@OceanConservationNamibia I'm curious, how many nets do you have? I saw the video where you had to cut one to open it. Are they expensive to have made?
@@taracook9319 We have only one net. We fix it a lot, we even had a second zip inserted, but it will eventually break. We will need a new net soon, they are custom made in the USA. This net has saved at least 200 seals.
This keeps your guys in great shape! Love watching. ❤🇺🇸
Thank you very much!
It's always an emotional rollercoaster with OCN: from the time I see the gut-wrenching thumbnail, to the comedy of the foot vs flipper race, to joy of the successful capture, to the horror of some of the injuries, to the joy of the successful disentanglement, and the relief of the released animal, as it gallops off to its friends, unencumbered, and with the knowledge they'll live a normal life, rather than being tortured to death by the garbage of humans.
Thank you so much for saving them..god bless you all..🙏
Our pleasure!
Why doesn’t this channel have millions of subs
Warms and breaks my heart to see this

Слава Аллаху, спасибо тем людям которые совершают добрые дела, дай Аллах им здоровья счастья.
God bless you all who do this! It’s good to have someone save the wild animals who get caught in filthy garbage us humans put out on this planet
We are shocked how many animals we see every day. We only cover a small part of Namibia.
Should have taken the last one to a vet. That flipper was nearly amputated
On the bright side, it was good to see it able to hold it up as opposed to dragging it. Which is a good sign.
He has said in many other comments that currently there isn't a rehab center nor a vet in Namibia yet, but they are trying to fund as much money as they can to be able to open one! If you want that pups like that one and many others that require extra veterinary attention afterward then be sure to spread these videos around as well as donate to their campaign mentioned in every video's description!
@@sabasgt thanks I was looking for that answer
Takes $$$$. Namibia govt isnt funding ocn at all. We are responsible to spread the word, subscribe. Share, like, buy ocn

It’s comforting to see all of these people caring to rescue so many animals in need.
Please keep it t up guys.

Amazing how she had adapted to ‘walk’ on one flipper. I hope she made a full recovery. Horrible entanglement
I always say thank you because those two words have real weight when said sincerely however I’m not sure how to express myself when seeing that last seal with the flipper almost cut through with steel wire. The help you provide is enormous however the relief you provide these seals is staggering when looking at some of these shameful and preventable injuries. It’s so sad to think that this help is only reaching seals in Namibia where you live as surely all colonies must face the same challenges. Thank you.🐨🦘🌊☀️
That's true. Luckily we are starting to be part of the world wide networks, there are a lot of other places around the world who deal with this kind of injury. Our seal population is massive, but there are others as well. It would be great to be able to help somewhere else as well. But right now, we have our hands more than full with just Namibia. It is incredible.
When we started our #100SealsForTime campaign, we were worried if we would find enough seals for reach our target. Now we see that there are just so many more seals in dire need.
