1. Focusing on the monthly payment only (Payment Shopping)
2. Not factoring other Costs:Payment, insurance, Gas and maintenance.
3. Pulling money from other sources, such as your house equity.
4. Don't buy the warranty on a lease. (It's a not your car).
5. Trying to get out early on a lease.

As a first time new car buyer in 1985 I was cheated by a GMAC Rep on the finance charge. It was widely advertised at that time that 14% was the lowest interest rate which he said we qualified for. When I questioned why it said 23.83% on the contract, he said that would be the entire amount of interest paid over the 4 year term and not the annual interest rate. I was young and dumb and signed the contract. Lesson learned early in life.

I don't normally watch these types of videos but these past 2 months I've enjoyed watching your honest and fair advice. I strongly agree with what you said at 3:58. Would it be considered dirty or immoral if a customer initially intended to pay cash in full, but allowed themselves to be talked into an 84 month loan, and then pay off the loan after 1 week? i used a home eq. loan. to buy a new van . figured out what a five year payment would be. paid more everymonth. worked for me. the interest was a write off on taxes.

Hey I really love you guys a ton and you give out ( free btw) some really helpful information. I d almost consider myself a super fan . Really I’d buy a t shirt honest . But your content goes on and on forever sometimes. This one for example says “5 things” and it’s twenty minutes long . I am an old guy and I have an attention span really I do ...., but . Have you ever thought of maybe doing a cliff notes book ? I’d buy one .
Never buy the gap insurance at the dealer. It's available from your insurance agent for a couple bucks a month.

Happy birthday Ray. I've been watching you two to assist me in a cash purchase. My 2002 Lexus sc430 was deemed a total loss recently. I'm struggling to find another one at a fair price and in good condition. Now I'm looking at other options; Mercedes sl 500, 350z, or very old Miata. 10k or less. Help please!!

Thank you for the kind words. A lifetime of hard work, patience and a continuing effort to evolve as a parent has gone a long way for Zach and I to have developed this bond. Trust me there were plenty of times when I knew nothing and he knew everything and now we understand that we can learn from each other.

Love your videos guys - funny, informative and very enjoyable! One thing is though is when you talk about lease/loan gap insurance I have to cringe.
As an insurance agent who insures but auto fleets, personal auto and even have leasing companies as customers there is a bit more to gap coverage than you guys are imparting. First is that gap, both loan and lease, coverage is available on almost all insurance policies for next to nothing when compared to the finance companies offers.
The same goes for credit life insurance, although sales of credit life are dwindling compared to what they were even a decade ago. A small $50,000 term life policy on someone is pennies compared to what the dealers charge. Those of us aware of this are also aware that a dealer can make a small fortune just on finance insurance policies. Again, not as much as they used to though!
Gap coverage is an insurance coverage and should be added to your insurance policy NOT bought from the finance company.

You gotta think, that is a 20k to 28k vehicle. Not a 60k unless you put a LARGE down payment to get it down to 400 a month
Please STOP TRADING . pay it off, keep it for 10 years .
Vehicles will change big in technology every 10 years. If your ride still good at 10 years, keep it going.
