    Hey man. I really appreciate it. I’m a HD mechanic by trade. Wife’s uncle has an 98 xk8 and I told him I’d do his brakes. He’s 71 so I wasn’t going to leave him hanging. I was getting so pissed that the brakes wouldn’t go over the damn rotor. Then I realized oh crap I need to evac half the brake fluid. It took me 4 hours on one side then I gave up and went against my reasoning and UA-camd it. I appreciate you from one mechanic to another thank you! If you ever have a broke down motor coach give me a call!

      @@ejsgarage out of curiosity…. Do you know why you need to evacuate the fluid for the caliper to fully seat? Like I mentioned I’m HD so all my calipers are adjusted. And my cars are nothing like that. This is my first sports car

    Thanx a lot, bro! The spinning of the rotor while hitting with the mallet was very important info. Just did my pads, rotors and one caliper.

    Many people can’t believe a brake and rotor replacement is that easy. The only thing I would do is to check the brake fluid reservoir after you finished to make sure the level is good. Another great instructional video, EJ.

    • @ejsgarage

      Yes, it is not difficult at all as long as all the bolts are not stuck. I had to add some brake fluid back 😃

    Fun fact, Ford owned jaguar when these car were made, the standard brakes are off a ford Mondeo / Contour, if you can change brakes on a ford you can do the jag, even the key is the same.

    Have you done a wheel bearing yet? I'm pretty sure I have a bad one on my XJ8 x305

    • @ejsgarage

    Is a 1997 jaguar xjr with only 50,000 miles on it worth getting for 7k ? The guy said it’s never seen snow or rain, always stored in a garage during winter and maintained every year ?

    • @ejsgarage
      @ejsgarage  3 роки тому +1

      That is a low mileage for 1997. $7k is a good price if it is a well maintained one.

      @@ejsgarage is it a big deal if the plastic part in the timing chain isn’t changed to the metal part already On the older XJ’s ? Just want to make sure I know as much as I can ! I watch all your videos and they are great

    • @ejsgarage
      @ejsgarage  3 роки тому

      The timing chain will be an issue later at 100k but you get to enjoy the car for 50k. Hopefully nothing will go wrong before that. My XJR is at 120k and still have the original timing chain. Just keep doing every 5k miles oil change to keep it nicely lubed.
