Yes, the pressure plates should be randomized in location (Maybe type too) and I think it would be cool to have the chests randomly be trapped. Then you really have to be careful!
I like the idea of these being randomized in these ways. The trapped chest in the center should also have the chance of being normal so people won't completely ignore it and still have to go down to check if the chest is normal or not
Cant remember the modpack but one mod adds a few temples into the game. The snow temple is hilarius because it is intentionally dark and they have a terracotta block in the middle which looks like a pressure plate but on the 8 blocks around it theres string on tripwire hooks.
I like how it was changed from *This is a Structure that has a bit of risk to the ill informed but has a chance at having some invaluable treasure* to "I've coded it so the desert temple is just a trap. No treasure, just 4 pressure plates in what are normally safe spots and an empty trapped chest.
Desert temple fact! The pillars in the desert temple aren't there just to support. If you break the bottom block of all 4 of pillars, they could have a hidden chest inside. You don't really know which of them will have a chest in them so, check all 4 pillars.
First, place treasure plates on outer block, then place tripwire hooks 1 block behind all chests, connecting a string, which blows up the TNT (and since the string would have to go through both the middle and above the chests, no block would be safe.)
Take the normal design. Sandstone pressure plates around the normal stone pressure plate, replace the normal chests with trapped chests. Above each chest is a sandstone block as per normal... but behind that is an observer. So, as you mine down onto a chest, it triggers an observer that triggers the TNT. The new strategy is to mine at the _side_ of the chest and once you go low enough, either break the pressure plates and then the chests (rather than opening them), or dig a little lower and collect all the TNT followed by collecting the chests.
I encountered a temple in modded that looked like a desert temple, but was in a snowy biome, and themed as such. There, they used a 5x5 of TNT and tripwires going through the outer two rows / columns.
the Desert Temple was created to teach the player to never dig straight down. having these subtle variations in the game would make the Desert Temple even better at teaching the player to never dig straight down.
Joke's on you, I always mine in a downward spiral on the outer ring. Both to be careful, and it made it easier for getting up and down with loot for multiple runs.

A couple changes: The middle chamber should be 5×5, so no matter what block you break you lose The floor should be either wooden pressure plates or a hopper activation system covered in carpets. This should have an incredibly minuscule chance of happening. Like, only a handful of people should experience this ever. This is chosen at random and is not influenced by world seed. This is so that this temple can't be found unless you're looking for it. Some games, like ddlc, can detect if you're recording. If minecraft detects you are recording or screenshoting, it should immediately replace the temple with the normal formation. If possible, try not to let anyone find this in the code. First, place treasure plates on outer block, then place tripwire hooks 1 block behind all chests, connecting a string, which blows up the TNT (and since the string would have to go through both the middle and above the chests, no block would be safe.)
Take the normal design.
Sandstone pressure plates around the normal stone pressure plate,
replace the normal chests with trapped chests.
