I have a 1954 Russian sks in a synthetic stock. Bought a 5 round mag for hunting purposes, chambered a round to make sure it feeds fine, and found a small dimple on the primer. Just bought the firing pin assembly. Thank you for the video and thank you for the link to find the one I need.
This video has absolutely great quality. Not just the resolution, but how you took the time to show the close-ups of everything. You've really got a lot of potential with videos like this. Great work!
you needed a new firing pin, they wear over time. My old one was the same way got a new one (NOS), cleaned the channel and works perfectly. I would only buy the murray if I had a bolt face issue.
I had a Murrays firing pin in my Yugo and fired Yugo corrosive ammo and somehow, even with the gas block way forward, some of the corrosive gases must have made it to the bolt. I cleaned the barrel and action after shooting but didn't clean the bolt. The spring rusted to the firing pin and inside of the bolt and got stuck. Moral of the story: Remove and clean and oil the firing pin and/or the spring after shooting corrosive ammo.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't know there is a fp with spring, my sks free floating pin leaves a little mark on the next round that goes into the chamber, I'm afraid of misfire, but some people say this is normal on semiautomatic rifles. I definitely buy one. Thanks again
i guess Im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Ryan Jayden i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Could you please tell me that where you got the spring firing pin? I just had a slam fire with my sks last week, so I want to change my old firing pin to a spring firing pin. thanks!
A slam fire can be kinda scary if you’re not expecting it. I got the firing pin and spring from Murray’s. Here’s the website murraysguns.com/sks-firing-pins/
Have had a problem with slam fires recently, did the new pin with the spring solve this? Also when I took it apart the pin moves freely when shaking it, but when I put it back together I noticed while racking the bolt you could see the pin sticking out??
I never had slam fires, but the spring and pin is supposed to fix those. My firing pin did the opposite; it would rattle in the bolt carrier but then stick inside and never stick out to strike the primer. If you’re having any firing pin troubles, I would recommend buying this kit.
not related to this video but i just watched a few of your black powder videos. I'm getting a cap & ball soon, do you know which ranges in NC allow BP muzzleloaders? I'm in the Charlotte area.
I’m not really sure since I shoot on private land. Maybe try www.wheretoshoot.org and call around to the different ranges and ask them if they allow it. Thanks for watching!
Could you please tell me that where you got this spring firing pin? Because I just had a slam fire with my sks last week, I want change my old firing pin to a spring firing pin. Thanks!
Just took apart original firing pin. Does not have a spring. Murray’s firing pin is an upgrade with a spring. Original SKS don't come with a spring on their firing pin..
I did this to my rifle after it slam fired when my Fiance was shooting it. I have a video about my rifle on Hoosier Boys UA-cam channel. I have had flawless operation since.
My firing pin used to be that way but the steel must have had a problem because it swelled. Personally, it’s cheap insurance to make sure your gun will fire when you want it to...or to keep it from going full auto when you don’t want it to.
The “bump” on the flat side of the firing pin goes up in the bolt. Even with no markings it should have the bump; maybe watch this video again to get the orientation right. Good luck to you!
Ah thanks its got the bumb on both sides same place it doesnt have a flat end im not sure if its the correct pin or if thats the narinco pin maybe ? Thanks for the help the appreciate it
That's simply not true! I had a very clean bolt and slam fired several times. I've replaced my firing pin and in fact the entire trigger group assembly provided by Murrays and have had a flawless operation since.
@@ncshootist yeah, I know, it’s because I recently did in Baltimore and myself for my SKS what a game changer. I also did the AK style quicker loose along with a detachable 30 round magazine.

Thank you Silas! When work isn’t so crazy I’m hoping to make more videos like this.
@@ncshootist definitely do man, it was very helpful.
Same ima to buy another firing pin for my SKS its been slam firing. More than usual great video sir :)

Thanks for the helpful tip Ralph.
Light moly grease on the firing pin won't burn if the firing pin is exposed to hot gases and moly grease is easily cleaned off with mineral spirits.
I wish AK could have as the same firing pin as SKS.

@Ryan Jayden it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out :D
@Alexis Benson Glad I could help xD
Nice, simple explanation 👌 thank you!
Thank you for your video. And I just saw you link in a reply you did.
Hi. Would you be able to remove the extractor for cleaning without removing retainer pin?
How many rounds can be fired before the firing pin spring becomes brittle from heat seperates
Could you please tell me that where you got the spring firing pin? I just had a slam fire with my sks last week, so I want to change my old firing pin to a spring firing pin. thanks!

He literally says it in the video but I guess he sent you the link. Good luck. Well it’s for years ago.
Fantastic. Thanks for the video and link.
Showing how you took out the retaining pin would have been good, people say it's difficult.

Will this solve the issue with slam firing?
Yes
All firing pin should be designed with the spring on.
You’re right. The free floating firing pin is a good idea in theory but in reality has problems. Thanks for watching!
@@ncshootist The M1 Garand never had a firing pin spring.
The spring gets hot , loses its temporary and becomes brittle and break up and causes problems
I have a sks I think the firing pin to too short ....... idk help please ? I’ve took it apart and everything
Henry, sorry to tell you this but if the firing pin is too short you’ll need to buy a new one. The good thing is a new firing pin is easy to find.
Mine has no spring?
Mine didn’t have one either to begin with since it’s a Yugo M59/66. Are you saying the replacement Murray’s firing pin didn’t come with a spring?
Just took apart original firing pin. Does not have a spring. Murray’s firing pin is an upgrade with a spring. Original SKS don't come with a spring on their firing pin..
ON SALE FOR ONLY $39.00!
No thanks!
It’s a little steep, but worth it to avoid slam fires.
Safety has infinite value
He is right. I’d rather have a safer rifle. The sks can slam fire even with the safety switched which can be dangerous
WHAT CHEAP SPRINGS they know they are going to break.

Meh.. keep everything clean, lubed, and Firing pin "shaky loose,".and it'll be fine.

Does it matyer what way the pin goes in it has diff sized notches not sure what side goes up i have a normal firing pin no markings
