- We left Krakow and came to the beautiful mountain town of Zakopane, Poland in the Tatra mountains. We take a funicular to the top of Gubalowka, soak in some thermal baths (termy Zakopianskie) and explore the towns main street, Krupowski.

I was there in Zakopane last week and it was pure magical, straight out of a Christmas card, like Whooville. The markets were great, the restaurants great, the little villages along the way from Krakow, just the perfect Christmas getaway. I can't wait to go back thanks for the video.

It's the first time I've seen someone have so much joy watching snow fall. But it's nice that someone still has the joy of a child seeing snow. These highlander wooden houses are called Zakopane style houses, and they have sloping roofs due to the heavy snowfall in this region. .

For us, that is, for me, my parents and family, Zakopane was a place where we spent Christmas in a hotel with an old restaurant where we served "sour soup" of fried oscypek cheese and grilled lamb, as well as sweets such as pancakes with fruit, oscypek cheese with cranberries or kutia. When I grew up, I started hiking in the Tatra Mountains in spring and summer and places such as Zakopane are scattered along the Carpathians up to Slovenia (not Slovakia) and in such places I ate grilled pork knuckle and beer then to the mountains then I went down I ate grilled cheeses in Slovakia and to the mountains then I went down and ate goulash in Hungary and the mountains, I usually ended up in Romanian Transylvania, where they fed me potato soup, wine and smoked bacon.
She said the country behind the mountain is Slovakia.

@@JacobandJennyTravel Polish food is meat because dumplings and potato dumplings are crap for tourists. Look for pork chop, minced meatballs, meatballs or baked pork shank. Bigos is a traditional dish but comes from cut pieces of meat, so "bigos" in Old Polish means chopped. Look for meat dishes because they are the best. I love pork knuckle with beer, pork chop, grilled lamb or pork meatballs.
Well, Polish peasants ate very rarely ate meat, but nobility ate too much, with strong spices, even ruining their health.

Zakopane translates to something like Buried. I always think it has something to do with how it's buried in snow at winter. :)

Not far from Zakopane is the town of Chochołow on the border with Slovakia where there is a much bigger thermal bath. There is a border crossing in the town with Slovakia and you can take a walk through Suchá Hora Slovakia. The weekend before last my wife and I went and stayed there for the weekend as a break from our Monday to Friday work lives in Krakow. My polish grandmother in law would have thought you were insane if she saw you rolling in the snow in a swimsuit 😂
Also you should take the lift up to kasprowy wierch its much higher up and you can look one side down into Poland and the other side down into Slovakia.
We need to go there sometime! It looks amazing! Hahahaha that is so funny 😂 I am sure a lot of people would think we are crazy rolling in the snow in our swimsuits!

Great video 😊 I was born and raised in Zakopane, but I’ve lived in Krakow since 2004. Now I don’t travel to Zako literally at all because it became too too touristic and overpriced and I probably would never come back to live in Zako again, however, I spent there a fantastic childhood 😃

I highly recommend a trek to Sarnia Skala which is a cliff in between the mountains. There’s a stunning view there. It’s about 2 hours one way on foot if you go using strążyska valley you can also see Siklawica waterfall

Guys if you're still in Zakopane you should go and see Hasior muzeum-amazing and highly valued artist of his time, the upside-down house if you fancy feeling disorientated/sick and cmentarz na Pęksowym Brzyzku (cemetery in a typical Zakopane style with famous artists/ war heroes) 😀 I'm glad you're enjoying our beautiful Poland 🥰

You went trhough city center (Krupówki street) uphill. But if you go downhill, there is a market there. You can find a lot of hand-crafted lroducts there made of local sheep wool and wood, local clothes and a lot of that cheese (oscypek) made locally by people who sell it.

Its really a shame that Poland doesn't get nearly as many visitors. People tend to overlook the beauty of Poland and go to Prague or Budapest.

I loved Zakopane, went in ?September and it was still warm, beautifuil, some day will go tot he Christmas markets and hit Zakopane, love that 7-11ish chain store, bought lots of goodies there in Warsaw and Kracow.

That mountain you can see from the Termy is Giewont a.k.a The Sleeping Knight. There is a beautiful Polish legend that he and his fellow knights are sleeping but would wake up if Poland was in a serious danger. I love this tale and I love this mountain, it always has a magnetic almost magical influence on me whenever I'm in Zakopane.

I saw that you like sauerkraut, I have lived in Zakopane all my life and in this region we have our special soup, consisting mainly of sauerkraut and smoked ribs.
This soup is called "Kwaśnica". It is also worth trying the "Moskole" potato pancakes, but they are very different from the rest of the country and are eaten with garlic butter.
and Pierogi with Bryndza are also another type of sour and salty cheese

If you wanna eat something good I recommend restaurant Gościniec Góralski Dwór in Kościelisko - you can get there by taxi (or on foot from Zakopane if you have that much time) - this place has great atmosphere and even better chef :)

.......try finding the snow mobile hire place - yes you can take out snow mobiles and race across the montains. Dont forget the proper cable car other side of town - it goes above the clouds

There are a couple of better ones in the area - Szaflary, Goracy Potok or even Bialka Tatrzanska or chocholow ; ) In all of those there are bars and restaurants and way more types of thermal baths ;)

I've been wanting to visit the mountains ever since my brother and my dad went there when I was 6. (They deemed I was a bit too young and small for such a trip), and it's been 36 years since then. It's just difficult to get enough free time around christmas, and after living in Southern US for 23 years, I'm not a fan of cold.

@@JacobandJennyTravel 8:38 that mountains in the back are ' sleepeing knight'. If you look closely and use just a bit of imagination, you may see head and torso :). It just folklore story but everyone in Poland knows that
@@JacobandJennyTravel Giewont aka that big, long mountain whose side is visible from almost every place in Zakopane is called a "Sleeping Knight" due its shape (look closely and you can see a body, a face and a nose, and even the huge cross that is located on the knight's "face") and to a local legend that says there are sleeping knights in a hidden cave under the mountaint and they're going to wake up if Poland is in grave peril.
