I was admiring one of these at an agricultural show in Wales. It was brand new and had a seven furrow plough on the back. In an imaginary leap, I pictured myself either on the tractor pulling that plough or as the tractor itself, tensing up slightly. At that moment I felt a light impact on my right shoulder and turning, I saw that I had knocked a woman to the dirt. She was wearing a ‘twin set’ and still clutching her handbag tightly. A group of about five or six men in suits gathered around me, reaching for the insides of their jackets. My girlfriend said ‘Do you know who that was?’ ‘No’ ‘It was Mrs Thatcher!’ Mrs Thatcher was whisked away quickly. Honestly, it was a very light impact and over she went… Always admired Fordson Counties, though there was little need for their power or seven furrow ploughs in my part of Wales. Mostly it is sheep farming😉 Mrs Thatcher was wasting her time. No Conservative MP has ever been elected there.
you prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Wade Jeremy i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
When I saw him bashing on the gear box and the start, trying to find low 1st and then no roll bar, there was only one way this could end. Nuts! Park it in the shed and let someone else drive it.
I used to shore gravel 60 years ago in the ordinary super Major with lime spreading balloon tires. Major did not have a good performance reputation for soft ground or the beach, you had to work them differently. You had to load the hitch as much as possible to take the weight of the front. My father taught me how to pull the full load up over the gravel banks. Would think that if you could get up enough speed that would help but , no. That bottom crawl gear that he was using was the same one thst I used. I just sat and waited, having a smoke as the big balloon tires sunk down and tbe pin on tbe hitch disappeared under the gravel. If you speeded up like this guy did, she would just drop, instead, I just did a fast tick over about 800rpm and let her pull away through the gravel bank. She would just drum along in diff lock with the 5 ton trailer behind and maybe take 10 minutes to cover the 20 yards but there would be no spinning or abuse. Once I got to know that this worked perfectly every time, I settled down and got to trust it. There would be old guys running up to me and telling me to "opener up", , "Give her a chance give her the stick" I was only a lad at the time but I politely declined their advice. Then some loon with a crop master or a T20 would go down my track and get bogged for half a day., I would see the tracks when I returned tbe following day. I would just drop into that low low gear and trundle over the lot. It took me years to figure out what was going on and why we were able to successfully pull our loads over the Large gravel banks. The gravel was very big , say 4 to 6 inches in diameter., when tbe Major began climbing tbe gravel bank from the Beach, I would first drive in In 2nd, gently, then lock the break and pull the lever up into the low selection gears and then 1st in the big lever. She would hesitate for 20 seconds or so, Would would think she was sinking but no, she was just settling in to get a grip and then we would move very slowly up the gravel banks. I believe that our Major was tbe only tractor back then that could do that, come out unaided with the full load. When tbe Major was moving forward, just ticking over, the whole tractor was gently bouncing up and down to the slow rev of the engine. I believe that this unique action forced the large pebbles or round stones to slot together to compress as if being vibrated into place and then the tractor for get purchase with tbe Baloons. If I felt that maybe she was sinking too deep, I would shut down tbe revs even further, Maybe back up 3 ft and just tick over the lot. The place itself was pretty scary and when the tide turned you could lose your tractor and trailer to the swirling waters. It was my first real job and I took to it like a duck to water.,I was happy there. I remember the raw icy March winds that cut to the bone but I was warm with the shovelling. I had my own cafe, I had my break in tbe Caves as the wind whipped the sand into a yellow soup. I look back on those days with fondness, I was eating like a horse and growing like a bad weed..I always had a soft spot for the Majors ever since.
The tractor will do the fording of the stream but the sides are steep and soft wet .and it would need more momentum to get out of the other side This chap is much lacking in the the experience to be trying this stunt .and the tyres are not brand new and there possibly are not ballasted either. So the moral to the story is watch and learn boy .before trying yourself and you should have a roll over protection bar fitted ....
"County Tractors Ltd" can only convert the tractor to 4WD, and you'll note that it's a true 4WD, so when you apply the diff-lock, all four wheels have a solid drive all the way from the engine, but they can't convert humans into tractor drivers! The question is, what in Sam Hill was the point of that? The last time I saw a Fordson Major of any ilk in a situation remotely like that, it was because its driver had died of a heart attack at the wheel.
Smart that he did not try harder harm or burn the clutch or get himself more stuck. It looks to me that the slower u do it the more power it needs, can someone explain to me what is the meaning of low gear ratio or short ratio and that stuff? what is it used for and why?
Its funny how humans always way until its to late and dug themselves into a hole. Or never prepare ahead of time. Now the smart thing would have been to have another Truck or tractor on the other side and chained to his tractor to wench it over or pull it over. Or actually taken 4 or 6, 4"x4"x8' boards and just laid them across.
@@stevecharette4421 No they were not at that angle the crank would be experiancing oil strvation just low revs saved the day I know from experiance. They are a simple wet sump engine .

Crawler gear?? He has no idea how to drive a tractor and, that was just a dumb thing to try. Once those tires filled with mud, and since he has no momentum, he's done.
Früher hätte man gesagt: 1000 Volt im Oberarm, aber oben brennt kein Licht. Aber der Fordson County ist schon ein sehr geiler Traktor!!!!

@Derrick Alexander No problem :)
Those ford counties are beasts . I had duels on mine . Would have gone up there piece of cake . 😎
Good vid. Thanks for sharing. Impressed with crawler gear.
He's holding the steering wheel with white knuckles and the tractor is in a slower than slow crawl!
What a great ole tractor love the video thanks for sharing 🚜 God bless y'all

Fantastic post written from experience. Thanks👏🏼🙏🫡
This guy should learn to drive one of these before he gets hurt.
I'm surprised the old Fordson, with it's 4 wheel drive, didn't succeed in crossing the ditch!

Is this 1st gear in low range or does it have an extra crawler gear?

it was his fault

That crawling speed must be a worm gear inside.
well that's proof, what goes down doesn't always come back up on the other side.
Dangerous to try with no safety cab!But looks fun trying!

leider geil sowas zu machen:-D würde ich auch probieren

Is it four wheel drive ?
Germany is not invading that field today.

you can get a lot lower ratio than that.

wonder what the oil pressure was at at on that angle
Probably just as good as it is when it's on flat land. These old tractors were made to be at more extreme angles than that.
@@stevecharette4421 No they were not at that angle the crank would be experiancing oil strvation just low revs saved the day I know from experiance. They are a simple wet sump engine .
Yup can't hold it there at those angles, these just have a basic oil pan and super easy to starve em at those steep angles.
