What a beautiful mind! Why is it that the most simple/obvious idea is the last that humans notice? I mean, HELLO! We have skin! Anyways, great alternative to a heavy non-flexible metal skin that weighs down the car. Bravo :D
amazing can't wait to see the finished producion car but thinking of a few areas of concern : cleaning it, would a jet wash rip it, is the covering easy/cost effective to replace. i'd have 1
do you remember how your heart hurts when you see a little scratch on your car? And here you see the whole compression. But once you close the door it gets back to a normal surface. Perfection.
This is a clear glimpse of the future. but why is it moving so slow? I for one cannot wait for the premiere. I wonder if it will run on petrol or bioenergies?
People need to calm down--the car isn't meant to be on the road; it's just a design study. It just gives the designers something to be inspired by and pick up design cues from.
this car is...revolutionary, this is going to change the way we build cars to ages to come. i cant express how psyched i am to get my hands on one of these cars! (if they start mass producing it that is). anyway, amazing :P pz.
if the door could submurge into the sills like bmw's z1 but covered by the cloth skin..that would be cool. just think if bmw made a top that would come up and make it look like a coupe hardtop with all that skin covering the gaps....wow. the skin certainly open new ideas to so many option of styling.
Very interesting concept :) Don't think of the material as fabric and obvioulsy a lot of R & D has to be carried out to figure out the best material. I'm thinkin about metal mesh composites. People shud keep in mind that a the more the car body is rigid, the most likely is the force on impact will be tranfered to passengers. The car might be intact... not you.
i think that the design is great and the skin looks a little eccentric and i think who made that car was really thinking outside the box dont you? i mean they made a car made out of a material we never even thought about making cars from an ealstic material because we are used to solid cars and i think this is a huge step in car making
dude whenever you do please do let me know. plus are you fan of top gear. if so please let me know the the name of the track being played in the background of season 5 intro
At high speeds, wouldn't this material start to flap off the frame, like a flag with its elasticity? Definitely something new though, and a cool concept if it works.
the exterior is not a cloth; it's a composite material resilient to weather, and other regular wear/tear. as the years pass, bmw will certainly come into possession of an even more durable materials. and the beginning is correct; current vehicles today do not provide much structural integrity in the skin of the car. exterior metal is only slightly reflective to minor bumps and scrapes. the underbody and frame is where 99% of the body strength comes from. this car will be a reality in the future.
saturns are made with plastic panels. they're dent resistant. the main problem i have with this concept is what if you kick up a rock off the road or something and it tears the fabric, what then?
i think i read somewhere where under it'll be tested with this material that was discovered a long time ago where you just throw hot water on it and it goes back to its originla shpae :) what if its made of that under :)
@originaldriver dude thye just don't have the metal skin on top. That stuff is flabby as hell it wouldn't really protect you that much. If you took it off you could kick a huge dent in it. So what this car isn't supposed to win most safe car of the year. They still have a base metal structure underneath obviously.
Anyways, the point is, a cloth skin would not be good because every time it was damaged, it would probably require refitting another one entirely over the car.
BMW has already stated that this vehicle will never go into production due to farrr too many conlficts with government and safety regulations. it was basically just an imaginative endeavor..as a source of inspiration. if you're actually interested in this car..well..i'm srry to disappoint you lol
if you want to piss someone that has this car all what you have to do is to get a pear of sissors... and be creative :-) But seriously this car is AWESOME!
yeah nice music.. but this is a typpical example of simple clean and organic music.. i think its made for this kind of films.. i almost know for sure :) stop searching :)
They wont be making it, it's just a proof of concept really. It's not revolutionary, and it won't change the way we build cars, it's just like a concept car. Personally having a car made of cloth doesn't sound too appealing or safe to me, it's especially unsexy when the cloth folds when compressed.
i dont know why but this car creeps me out it may be the music or the guy but i just think the car is strange and i dont like it especially when the wing pop's up and the head rest's push out its just not right lol
that is one incredible design, just gorgeous, and so awesome, love it......
I WANT that music in the background!! :(
I wrote a letter to the BMW media group abut the soundtrack. They don't have any info.
Keep searching, keep searching.

That's fricking awesome
Best car ever!!!
I wonder if the car will have a "wide-eyed" expression a split-second before a head-on collision?

cool car, but it looks lame when the doors open and sort of folds. Maybe the door should be opened differently to avoid these folds
what do you think would be better? not being rude you know.
@MaloEdu It's Geometry and functions In 'N' Adaptation... His "I" does not become function. The "I" comes from In

Anyways, the point is, a cloth skin would not be good because every time it was damaged, it would probably require refitting another one entirely over the car.

yes
Oh no, I know that lol.. I'm just saying that a flexible metal would be awesome on this car rather than using the cloth lol
If only it were possible to produce a flexible metal to suit this car..
You keep using the word acronym... I don't think it means what you think it means...
yeah nice music.. but this is a typpical example of simple clean and organic music.. i think its made for this kind of films.. i almost know for sure :) stop searching :)
