Third world problems: corruption, poverty, war, hunger, healthcare, education, safety, diseases, political instability. First world problems: You hurt my feelings
@vivi _ South Korea is not that different from north Korea. There are still many cultural issues koreans face, so dont bring korea into the modern world
Some Third World societies have better social settings. I remember watching a documentary of a British woman who visited an African tribe. When she got sick, The whole tribe dressed up, and did a dance ceremony for her recovery. After only three days, the entire tribe was crying because they were sad to see her go back to Britain. That’s a side of humanity that just doesn’t exist in America.
Black Excellence Yeah even though that seems really nice from them, I'd rather be brought to a hospital when I'm sick, than let people dress up and perform dances...
@@AD-jq7ow umm I don't think you get the point. The person is saying that even the first world countries these days lack the humanity that even small tribes in Africa posess.
Where do you live? For me, I live in Puerto Rico. And it's actually quite difficult to place our status on the world. I mean, sure, we are part of the USA, but if you take a look at our economy or corruption you'd see how bad it is. Poverty is very prominent here, but I wouldn't say to the point of India, for example. I kinda see us as the opposite of India. Our economy is shit and shows no signs of getting better, but we can afford a lot more stuff that Indians can't. Of course, all of this is largely do to the fact we are a USA territory.
come to india...these people call it third world but trust me....we dont produce the best engeneers and doctora in the world just like that....we have one of the cheapest and best hospitals which these westerners come for cheap and pro surgeries
Actually this is wrong basis. 3 world concept was based on 3 things NATO:- First world Soviets:- Second world Others :- Third world The second world got diminished after breakdown of Soviet Union so there is first world and third world. This is not based on economy but rather it's a cold war term
Yugoslavia, one of the 3 countries who founded N.A.M. (so, considering that fact it was a third world country) had way better standard than any Soviet country.
First world countries are countries that sided with America during the Cold War. Second world countries are the omes that sided with the United Soviet Socialist Republics, and the third world countries are the ones that did not side with any countries.
Oftentimes in my education, I've found that we categorize countries by "poor" or "wealthy" (third/first world are generally the terms used), but it's so much more complex than that. When travelling in many so-called "third-world" countries, you often find people living the exact same way you do. Oftentimes, poverty and homelessness are more shocking when you see it happening in your own so-called "first world" country.
But the united states is still the best place as far entrepreneurship is concerned. The top 1% of USA are really powerful and young minds also have the freedom to follow their passion and avail the investments to propel their startup. I hope the condition in my country improves soon.

I am proud to say that as a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines and Southeast Asia, we are not ashamed being referred to as a Third World World nation. People understand that we are still developing. We, the Southeast Asians, consider ourselves as brothers and sisters helping each other in times of crises and support our growing economies. We value our family and very welcoming to visitors. We still have a lot of problems and recognize them. We don’t have a perfect government (even other nations don’ even have), but still supportive of the progress we are experiencing in our society.

Third, second and first world are outdated terms from the the cold war. In my country we say developed, emergent, and underdeveloped. In my opinion it's much better.
But infographics, you missed out on a very important point. Its about cost and inflation in different countries In India you can afford a full plate meal with 1$ where as you can't afford a piece of bread in a few countries.
Ong Zen Ye , every country spends on their military developements ,you should notice this , india is fastest growing economy in the world in just 70 years of independence. before britishers came to india it served 1/3 rd of world GDP and was wealthier than other countries but after 200 years of loot and colonisation it was made poor but it is improving fastly it will become 5th largest economy in near future and it current stands at 7 th
Ong Zen Ye Oh sorry. We don't want to nuke Pakistan and China when they attack us. *instead we'll not spend anything for our defence. How does that sound?*
MinePool That's why he introduced the idea of poverty line. 1$ in India could be the equivalent of 20€ in Sweden, for example. However, there are still more people living under 1$/a day in India than those who live in Sweden under 20€/a day. And even those poor people in Sweden who can buy as many things as those poor people in India, have still a more decent life because of their countries' infrastructures, public and social helping programmes. India is sadly too far to be developed yet.
They're weapons are worse than Pakistan and China's. The only thing India has is numbers and very basic understandings of civil language skills, namely telemarketing and other annoying shit.
I personally never heard that the US was a fourth world country, the definition makes complete sense as there is a lot of inequality in the country. It's interesting seeing how different countries are when it comes to how developed they are.
No it is a third world country for the following reasons 1. Mass shootings every day (and then they say Mexico is more dangerous than Afghanistan) 2. Worst healthcare system 3. A prison system that treats prisoners like slaves 4. Highest level of drug consumers 5. Highest level of homelessness 6. Highest number of people with mental illnesses
The facts about india are true india is still very poor ,i live in india but i have never seen a snake charmers in india yet...where do you find snake charmers in india?
and in india every one thinks we are poor living in slums and every one is black like wtf really some of the worlds richest people in the world live in the india only for the corrupted government india is in this state right now and every one thinks we are black like first of all whyy in 2018 this is a a thing and india is a country with like 100 races of people some black some white some yellow like i am an anglo and like me there are like 99 other races
Ong Zen Ye Well actually India isn't spending on nukes now and yes research programs are important also the space programs are important although we are decreasing the defense budget of our country and going in peaceful state but still we have to work a lot for that we are spending billions on different researches and space programs Maybe you are from a country where they don't have understanding about the importance of science 😉 but I can understand yourself
If "Third World" was coined to refer to unaligned nations during the Cold War, does that not make Switzerland and Finland (among others) also part of the Third World?
2nd world doesn’t exist anymore. Today, the definition of 1st and 3rd world countries has changed due to the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. 1st world countries basically consist of Europe, Russia, North America (excluding Mexico and the Caribbean Sea), Oceania, Israel, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. All these countries are democratic, received western influence and use western culture in their societies. 3rd world countries consist of Africa, most of Asia (including India and China and excluding the previous named Asian 1st world countries), the Middle East (excluding Israel) and the remaining countries. 3rd world countries are classified by their low human development index. 3rd world countries consist of developing countries and least developing countries. Hope you understand 👌
Jake Farrugia i wouldn't exactly call taiwan a first world country, just because it's democratic doesn't mean it's more developed, in fact it's much less developed than china and is far behind Japan, Korea and Singapore. Ofc, taiwan isn't bad, but calling taiwan 1st world is just plain incorrect
argentina... the only country that went from being a developed country to a developing one. 100 years ago we were top 5 in the world but since the the wall street crash we ve been on crisis
I am from India and I am more than happy to born in this Incredible country. I will not characterize my country or any other country like in this video for me people are happy or not that matters . If there is anything like rebirth i will again wish to born in India and will contribute again in its growth. I love my country and my country mates more than anything i can die for their smiles.
bro India is actually a pretty decent country.....If you consider everything properly, it should be categorised as a second world country. Other than that, I would much rather live here than in the USA or somewhere, the people are much nicer, and the culture and food is awesome. We have been independent for only about 70 years but we are a fast developing country and will soon be in the top charts. Before independence, our country actually contributed to 1/3 of the whole WORLD's GDP, and was actually called "Sone ki chidiya" roughly meaning, " The Bird Of Gold". The problem is actually the high population in a much smaller area.
While $150 a month in India may be enough to live fairly comfortably; it does not mean you can actually have security or many of the things people in the western world take for granted; like cars, yearly vacations abroad and access to excellent healthcare and education.
Yeah, I'm from India and whatever shown over here in this video is true. The HDI rankings of almost all South Asian countries are the same with Sri Lanka and Bhutan exceptionally better. If we had limited our population growth 2-3 decades ago, then I think we would've done better in terms of GDP per capita.
+siIvermate but they ended up creating a disaster for themselves... Everyone wanted a boy child to take family lineage forward leading to horrible sex ratio.. Google it up
Well theres probably a way to avoid that. Also there are developed countries with similar population densities as India like South Korea, Taiwan, Netherlands, but those countries have much more inhabitable terrain if I understand correctly. Especially the Netherlands, its as flat as a wall
Kleco102 I live in Sri Lanka, a high HDI doesn't necessarily mean it's a better country to live in. Culturally still pretty backward, politically extremely corrupt and economically only for the politically elite/rich/powerful. it's pretty terrible here for an average middle-class individual. Most try their best to get out....
I prefer the Chinese definition of the Three worlds theory. The first world consisting of superpowers, the second world of developing powers, and the third world of exploited nations Compared to the western Three-world Model (1st) NATO and Allies, (2nd)Soviets and Allies, (3rd) The rest or Non-Aligned later becoming NAM Chinese version came first
Yeah those they called third-world is where the exploitation and looting are done, so in other words those first world are parasite to the those they called third-world, France and Britain do not wanna let Africa go.. Africa are the most richest continent in world with so many natural resources, oil, diamond, gold, silver, zinc, copper etc so many but until we Africans wake up to end the looting

How I've always understood it: First World: Rich countries, Mostly North America, most of Europe, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, etc, where the average person can have the base expectation of a life without extreme poverty, where the amount of opportunities is high. Third World: Poorer countries, with massive variations. Here you get the whole Developing thing, and while Third World is a pretty weird term because of how vague it is, I do think First World is a useful term just because the variation among first world countries, while apparent, is small enough to have them grouped. Third World would them be used for any country that isn't 1st world, usually where overt poverty has a significant presence(where it is almost nonaplicable to First World countries), and where large social and political issues are often a threat.

India was the most developed back in the 1700s before the Britishers juiced it's wealth and took it to their motherland for the good of *their own* Motherland. When they came to india first, india shared 27% of the world's wealth at that time and when they left india that number fell uptill 3% with 90% of citizens below poverty line and while they were in power they made no effort to industrial or develop india. India was more developed back in 1700s than 1947 Let me your views
wayne lau yes, but at that time Singapore didn't have much wealth to lose with way too less population compared to India who had to go with it's big population with only 16% literate people (because British didn't supported Indian to get educated so that they can't oppose British strongly) and 90% of citizens below poverty line (because British drain all of the india's wealth to fuel the industrial revolution in their country)

As an Indian I can say that there is nothing offensive about the things mentioned here..there was a time when I used to take offense whenever anybody called India a poor country but to be honest, it is very true..A huge part of our enormous population lives below the poverty line in slums and rural areas..Unemployment is a very big issue and many of the well educated young people don't have a job..It is the sad reality..Standard of living is poor and even those who have jobs have to work for very long hours just to keep their jobs..
C'mon man stop being offended Indians. He most probably used our example because we currently the best example of poverty and prosperity in the same place, hell our financial capital also hosts Asia's largest slum, and also world's most expensive house, so there is no shame in accepting that we are a bit behind but hey we are rising rapidly and one day we will be in a good position, so don't be offended and take everything in good spirit. PS- He also does a fat American stereotype,I don't see any one offended at that.
Basically what he mean. The countries which invade other countries are first world. The countries which fought with first world countries are second world and the countries which stay neutral are 3rd world. Is dubai and Singapore count as a third world too?
Third world countries cost of living is low.Third world countries provide free healthcare, free education to poor people. In india you can happily live with 3 dollars
3.10$ a day isn't the worst but I don't think you can call a person happy when they earn 6,300Rs a month. I'd say a happy man would earn about 15,000Rs a month.

I'm glad this video uses the term "Fourth World" because that has always been one of my questions. We're given the characteristics and shown photos of so called "Third World" countries yet there are some parts of many "First World" countries that resemble developing or underdeveloped countries. I also like how this video states every country is developing.
Poland ranked 32 meaning Poland is ranked higher than Chile at 42 wich is the most developed south American country. But your right with the other ones.
@@ancienthistory8581 En el ranking de qué Polonia está 32º? Por ejemplo en PBI per cápita está por debajo de Chile y Uruguay. Oh come on India!! We can do better than that... Why can't we just keep quiet and listen when someone criticises us? It's not always to insult us. Every country has its weak links, we know we've problems that they mentioned in the video. They also mentioned we're working on it, and that too is true. We can't just bluntly deny that we don't have poverty in our country, or huge wealth divide, or education system is in a need of major reform at least in rural India, or healthcare system. Heck our government sources suggests that we've a lot to do before we truly become a developed super power. These things will change only when there's a visible change in our country, people's attitude, education and improved lifestyle.

It's interesting to hear that someone in Harvard Medical considers the US to be a fourth world, which is the combination of both the first and third world, meaning that the US has great wealth but at the same time it also has people living on the verge of poverty and or drug abuse.
so embarrassing for infographics regular Indian viewers....... but hey we have to accept the truth...... problem in India is not poverty but the line " chalta hai" and cleanliness..... hope great days are ahead......
This video answers a question I've had since I was a child. "what about the second world?" I mean, you almost always hear all about first world and third world countries, but when the second world is simply ignored. I didn't think it existed, and these vague terms were used to just describe rich or poor countries. I suppose its better than the convoluted system of "communist ally or capitalist ally, or neither." but still, interesting to know it exists and why.
I've also noticed that things in third world countries are two times cheaper than in First world countries. If you really like saving your money go live in the Philippines and see how much you pay but negatively at the same time the people that work in these third world country don't get paid the best if their working in factories etc. The cheap stuff in these third world countries kind of has a double edge sword to go along with it.
its interesting to see the progression of first world countries and also see how the third world countries are trying to come up on the list. Theres a lot of different factors that are taken into consideration when analyzing the status of countries and its all very fascinating.

Hans Rosling argues that there are four categories to keep in mind. The world’s seven billion people can be mapped across four income levels. There are essentially a billion people in extreme poverty, on $1-2 a day. The next step up begins at $4 a day, and 3 billion people live at this stage. There’s no doubt that it’s a very big step up from level one, but we shouldn’t kid ourselves that people at level 2 are no longer poor. Between $8-$32 a day we have level three, and it is here that people begin to get water on tap and stable enough electricity to run a fridge. Two billion people are at this level. Finally, there are a billion people at stage 4, which is likely to include you and I. With those definitions of ‘middle income’, it might seem that we’re still talking about rich and poor, but the jumps in lifestyle that happen between the levels are significant. You can explore what they mean in practice through Gapminder’s Dollar Street project.
It's nice to be informed about the differences between first and third world countries. In addition, I like how the video addressed the distribution of wealth and the lifestyle of some individuals in first world countries. For example, in the US, there are some people who do still live in poverty even though it's considered a first world country. Also, just because a country is considered a third world country, it doesn't mean that they don't have any advancements and everybody lives poorly either.
I had actually found that very interesting, you see, because the west basically took over the world, it’s standards where imposed all over the place; such as: religion, government system, economic system, etc Most of the indexes that are made take as a basis the west standards, which, is not bad per se but leaves aside a lot of other factors ant assumes that all the world wants to be like the west. I off course love to have social and economical security but I think, as in everything that to much of something is just very bad.
India was once a wealthy nation before the British ruled and looted the nation's wealth. Agreed you can find a lot of people living below poverty line, at the same time you can find the world's richest living here. Proud to be Indian 💖 Slowly but constantly it's progressing.

Quick note: Being a third-world country doesn't mean living in a cave, you have a house/apartment (poor housing btw) with internet (bad internet too, but that doesn't mean no internet at all) and poor nutrition. The third world countries mostly suffer from lack of opportunities, corruption, poor infrastructure, terrible healthcare and education. Plus, not all third-world countries have war or pervasive hunger. I'm talking from a Moroccan perspective because we don't have people starving or any war here, but someone from deep down of Africa may think living in Morocco is a privilege, but again, that doesn't mean we are living in one of the Nordic countries.

Ivan Filipovic what?

Actually this is wrong basis.
3 world concept was based on 3 things
NATO:- First world
Soviets:- Second world
Others :- Third world
The second world got diminished after breakdown of Soviet Union so there is first world and third world.
This is not based on economy but rather it's a cold war term
In that case 2nd world is superior to 1st world
True. Yet nowadays 2nd world term is often replaced by a term "countries in transition".
Yugoslavia, one of the 3 countries who founded N.A.M. (so, considering that fact it was a third world country) had way better standard than any Soviet country.
南愚文科刺度恵守 Where are you from ?
南愚文科刺度恵守 google third world. And it well tell you something different.
First world countries are countries that sided with America during the Cold War. Second world countries are the omes that sided with the United Soviet Socialist Republics, and the third world countries are the ones that did not side with any countries.

We didn't get to choose...
Philippines was a first world and its not because of the economy
Oftentimes in my education, I've found that we categorize countries by "poor" or "wealthy" (third/first world are generally the terms used), but it's so much more complex than that. When travelling in many so-called "third-world" countries, you often find people living the exact same way you do. Oftentimes, poverty and homelessness are more shocking when you see it happening in your own so-called "first world" country.
Yes.

In India you can afford a full plate meal with 1$ where as you can't afford a piece of bread in a few countries.

No it is a third world country for the following reasons
1. Mass shootings every day (and then they say Mexico is more dangerous than Afghanistan)
2. Worst healthcare system
3. A prison system that treats prisoners like slaves
4. Highest level of drug consumers

6. Highest number of people with mental illnesses

If "Third World" was coined to refer to unaligned nations during the Cold War, does that not make Switzerland and Finland (among others) also part of the Third World?
Thats not what it means anymore its basically labels for developed (1st world) and undeveloped (3rd world), theres also developing (2nd world)
Voice of Reason You are 100% right!!
Jake Farrugia the third world doesn't all have a low human development index either. It is far more diverse than the first world.

How I've always understood it:
First World: Rich countries, Mostly North America, most of Europe, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, etc, where the average person can have the base expectation of a life without extreme poverty, where the amount of opportunities is high.

Matt Kid Japan doesn't have a military 😂
Maju Diop Benavent Dude. Jsdf it's just not called military!
Hikayu , True, true😂😂😂
S. Korea has a better army
Japan has a better navy
Equal airforce (American training)
If they fight, japan would win because S. Korea's army will be useless (ocean)
First world country = light skinned
Third world country = dark skinned
Seems too accurate to be a coincidence
Didn't knew Swiss people had dark skin, thanks for sharing (see on Google Switzerland is third world country because it didn't side neither any Countries in world war)
I'm from 3rd world country and I have light skin. I must have been born at the wrong place 😂

I'm glad this video uses the term "Fourth World" because that has always been one of my questions. We're given the characteristics and shown photos of so called "Third World" countries yet there are some parts of many "First World" countries that resemble developing or underdeveloped countries. I also like how this video states every country is developing.
Yes. Trumpeting certain wealthy nations as "First World" is ignoring reality.
American countries like Chile, Uruguay, Panama are more developed than european countries like Poland, Romania, Hungary, etc.
Poland ranked 32 meaning Poland is ranked higher than Chile at 42 wich is the most developed south American country. But your right with the other ones.

Ayush Saxena I am open to criticism and yes it did the job.
But still some streotypes hurt others. If you know what I mean to say?
Norway best tho.

What I found interesting is how they call the US a fourth world country. I had never heard of the term nor knew it was a fourth world country but when they explained how it worked it all made sense
Who cares. I am living happily in India. Anything you have other than, dress for wearing, food and a house for shelter, is a mere lavish spending of money to satisfy our egoistic needs.
Manjunath Mj nope living lavish don't mean happy. I love my India.
Manjunath Mj you do spend money on having internet access too, though, I guess...
OFCOURSE, F.OPE. And I am also a victim of this.
Well..you're pretty lucky living in that condition compare to your other brothers and sisters that are living in a poverty line.
Manjunath Mj I am not indian, but life means to be happy and a good person. Money are not important.
Best thing to think is india was even lower just few decades ago .
With 32 yrs of avg life expectancy.
So even if we are lower now we will be higher tomorrow.
Good survey.
No need to worry much just do your job, just keep helping each other.
We earn less but we earned even less only decade ago.
India will rise over again .

Anyways, that apart, could you please do a video on Human Evolution.
It's interesting to hear that someone in Harvard Medical considers the US to be a fourth world, which is the combination of both the first and third world, meaning that the US has great wealth but at the same time it also has people living on the verge of poverty and or drug abuse.
Usa is a third world country
so embarrassing for infographics regular Indian viewers....... but hey we have to accept the truth...... problem in India is not poverty but the line " chalta hai" and cleanliness..... hope great days are ahead......

@@jettonjets1557 Well... No in hdi rankings US is ranked 16th which is pretty good actually but is should do a lot better as it is the richest nation in the world.
I had actually found that very interesting, you see, because the west basically took over the world, it’s standards where imposed all over the place; such as: religion, government system, economic system, etc
Most of the indexes that are made take as a basis the west standards, which, is not bad per se but leaves aside a lot of other factors ant assumes that all the world wants to be like the west.
I off course love to have social and economical security but I think, as in everything that to much of something is just very bad.
Love the ending, some of the happiest people in the world are what we would consider poor
1:58 4th world countries : the entire globe
India was once a wealthy nation before the British ruled and looted the nation's wealth. Agreed you can find a lot of people living below poverty line, at the same time you can find the world's richest living here. Proud to be Indian 💖
Slowly but constantly it's progressing.
As an Indian I don't know how long we are going to cry about British
We have some most stupid, corrupt leaders in the world (and yes including BJP,AAP)
Somehow cow is more important than humans
And then talking about facts and I'm a Pakistani
Saurav Kumar cow issue is not that big of a deal it was one fucking issue that was boosted by the media clearly that is not the issue dragging the country down
Saurav Kumar well Britain is one of the cause of our many problems even today when they left we had 90% poverty

How do you live in Pakistan?

India was never a third world country the British made India a poor country
The biggest mistake indians made is democracy, democracy is a poison for poor nations, iam very inspired by china they worked really hard, now they are challenging america but india is still underdeveloped and compare itself with Pakistan.

Indian politicians: how to win the next elections
But it is a 3rd world country NOW
It is now
So you're saying it's the brits?
I'd rather be depressed in a 1st world country than happy in 3rd world country
USA - the richest country in the world, also a country where homeless people have full time jobs, and a simple broken bone can throw you into debt for life.
APPARENTLY THIS VIDEO IS WRONG IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ECONOMICS
First world is just a miserable
Having spent a significant amount of time in a third world country I will say that I am much happier in the good 'ol U.S. of A.

We often do categorize countries depending on their status whether it be poor or wealthy. What I do remember and could be wrong is the first world is always with America and the third world is mostly never involved, I feel like "homelessness" is often seen in the first world.
But is Finland a 1st world country
Finnish Finn yes. Finland is a great place to live overall.
It’s funny how this video ignores the role colonization has played in making these countries “third” world
Mexico, China and Brazil our second world countries as far as economics
