Seriously cannot get enough of this brand. I CAN'T WAIT until they're able to ramp up production. A Forest Green R1T would look beautiful sitting in my driveway.
Very well thought out. I was hiking a few weeks ago and lost my phone, luckily I still had my key card to get back into the Tesla. The key fob or bracelet would have been more ideal. Rivian has done a great job with their design process.
Tesla also has a key fob and there are lots of third party wristband keys and rings, just sayin
@@aminfozdar The tesla key fob isnt a carbineer and 3rd party solutions are not the same as OEM solutions. Just saying.

@@aminfozdar And Tesla took inspiration from other places. My previous job used RFID key cards for entry into the building and even those allowed separate digital keys for entry into different parts of the building going back over 15 years ago and it was in no way an early adopter. Every hotel and flea bitten motel now uses card entry (still swipe cards in some place) but its the standard in office buildings, apartment buildings, factories, hospitals, government buildings and some more advanced public transportation systems (Heyy Chicago!). And considering that tap to pay is also a normal part of life, many people have now gone completely digital with keys and cash for years now and the real wonder is why car companies are the last to adopt this now ubiquitous technology. 🤷 Probably because they like charging $300 to replace a broken/lost key fob.

Rivian - I love this flexibility and having a myriad of options. The only thing I'd ask - can you put a "hole" in the keycard. Many valet have to attach a tag to keys, even if it's as a way to hang it. The key cards really need to come with a hole in them as I'd imagine making your own is a bad idea. Thanks again!!
Yes it should be possible, most NFC cards have empty space where there are no wires. But each card is different. We will have to wait for a teardown video where someone shows the layout of the inside of the keycard.
@@Wolfizen Yeah, I assumed consumers could figure out and punch their own, but I was hoping that @Rivian would do it for us, by default, for every card key.
@@borgxxxboy - Excellent idea! Totally agree that I'd rather have Rivian just provide cards with a hole already it to begin with versus relying on a video of someone hacking the keycard. I'd probably only punch the hole in the card myself if Rivian provided the guidance on where and how to do it.
You can buy a bus pass sleeve that achieves what you want. It has a hole for a key ring or a lanyard, and you can slide any card you want in it, including the key card.
@@CityLifeinAmerica Yes you can. $1 solution to a $75k vehicle. Or Rivian can just do it for us, hopefully leading the way so that all card keys from manufacturers will have a precut hole.

Rivian is cool, stylish and has a character. Unlike legacy brands which all seem to be very similar and generic.

These are really great options. The wrist band is great, not having to find a spot for a key fob or card. Many places we go we don’t bring the cell phone. 👍 to Rivian for offering these great key options.

@@isaiahlouisb2 are they? (genuine question) I’ve only read that supply chain and production headwinds will let them produce 25k cars this year 🤷♂️ and they *hope* to get to 1 million a year by 2030.
I really want their truck, but with demand outstripping supply, I have no clue what the price, or availability will be in the next 5 years.
@@maxuuell yep..I agree with your statement, I believe in the long term but they do need to perform quarter over quarter if they are going to survive.
Especially with Amazon & Ford loosing so much because of their investment of shares in the company
@@maxuuell I spend a lot of time in Central Illinois near their Bloomington facilities. I've seen personally owned Rivians in Peoria, Champaign, and of course Bloomington. Saw a blue R1T yesterday parked outside a movie theatre and a green one last week by a Lowes. They're getting out there it's just gotta speed up!
Also, the build quality looks fantastic. It's not like a tesla at all. The gaps are clean and precise, the materials at least look and fit very nicely (not my cars, no touch), and they just have a stunning presence.

I love the idea...but I wonder if I would trust a band on my wrist. A Garmin Fenix style strap? Maybe... Single click band? Not so sure
@@michalklucz6907 Totally agree. I lost my Apple Watch diving into a lake that just had the single click band, it popped off right when I hit the water and down it went.
@@PeteFife right? you just go with your lifestyle adventure truck to some wilderness. leave everything in the car, get your activity band on and do some paddleboarding, surfing, kayaking, MTB..only to realise that your band is gone, lucky you if you see it going off.. the worst-case scenario it's somewhere around 4 miles. suddenly keypad on the B pillar is not a gimmick anymore :D
About time SOMEONE made a waterproof key fob. What a CONCEPT! Like, Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, come on, why isn't this a thing?
As a Tesla owner myself, I am very intrigued about the Rivian. As far as interior quality goes, it is painful to say that Tesla fails miserably. I am sure this has to do with the fact that the demand was so much production just couldn't keep up with more time spent on redesigning the interior and using higher quality parts to keep cost down. I mean a model 3 went as low as 35k at some point. Rivian costs a lot more, hence the quality. Although I gotta say, the Rivian still has better design and quality than the Model X, which is more expensive. I am happy with my Tesla, but in the future for sure would like to get a Rivian as an upgrade.

What is going to prevent a valet or pockethacker from cloning the card credentials with a simple cheap rfid chip reader?
Also once a card has become lost or stolen, do you need to have another encryption code installed to your vehicle to reduce theft?

Exactly. Existing key fobs are already terribly easy to hack. Now car thieves have more options.
Having now owned the vehicles with key cards, I can tell you that in 4 + years, I've never carried one. I'm all phone, all the way
If you lose your card, you can remove the lost card's access using the car's screen and another authenticated device.
At least in the Tesla world, when the car is delivered, you are provided 2 cards that are authenticated to the car. After that you are free to purchase more cards to authenticate, fobs and add phones. However each device you add or remove requires a previously authenticated card to allow that action.
I have 3 cards and 2 phones on my car. In Tesla world, cards and fobs are considered master devices, phones are secondary.

When will the wristband be available for purchase in the R1 shop for all Rivian owners? Also for safety you should give option for pin to drive like tesla. Add security is someone steals you phone or key, they cant take hour car too
I Love my Launch Edition R1T, I just wish the Key Band was included. Now I’m reading it was supposed to come with my delivery and it didn’t. I guess I’ll have to reach out to Rivian Support. I really don’t like over promising and under delivering, especially with a truck as awesome as this.

Is the surfing shot in Washington or Oregon?
Rivian please fix or implement the hardware for the fob to be passive. I want to be able to walk up with the fob in my pocket to unlock the doors.. the Bluetooth on the phone is too sensitive. Without the fob being a method of passive entry it's a huge step back to the 90s when keyless entry started.
Would really love transparency from Rivian. I had initial contact with my guide a month ago and still no info on when I will receive my R1T, even after signing PBA 😩

Ford's number pad on the door pillar solves all of these trinkets. Just another way for Rivian to push their accessories.
Does the correct input on the Ford number pad allow you to drive the car?
I think Rivian is demonstrating the personalized (driver specific) settings, car access and ability to drive the car via the listed *accessories*.

My 1994 Ford Explorer had all of these same functions by simply having a keypad on the door.
So @Rivian, am I going to be able to buy the wristband? When I took delivery of my R1T (which I love!) I was told the wristband was only given to Launch Edition owners. I'm still trying to get my hands on one.

Question: With the challenge to make a profit on the production of their vehicles, will Rivian ($RIVN) turn to Exro ($EXROF) to cut costs on their motor and battery designs? I'm a Rivian share holder and have serious concerns!
OMG, a video that included multiple shots of the R1S. Was starting to wonder if Rivian remembered it. Would be nice to start seeing some videos dedicated to just the R1S.
Also, had to accidently find out the R1S owner's manual is now available on the Rivian website. Is it really that difficult to reach out to R1S pre-order holders via email that the manual is available. Another communication opportunity missed. smh
That's cool but I can unlock and drive my Mach e with just a couple passwords so I don't need to worry about losing anything

Yes you should totally do that.
The phone as key works 30% of the time, the supplied key cards and bracelet don't work at all, the only reliable method to drive my truck is the carabiner key fob. Have been trying to get help with it for a week to no avail...
What about customers and shareholders? administrative mismanagement is noticeable and the worst thing is that they do not give answers❌🛑😡😡😡⚠️

Please rivian just add capacitive proximity door sensing handles. No point in having car recognize phone in pocket, door handles move out, but then can’t open the door. But instead get phone and unlock door. SMH.

Why did you release this video when you don’t even sell these bands in the gear shop? Very silly and nonsensical idea to only give those to launch edition order holders.
The prototypes in this video look pretty nice. Rivian should consider producing vehicles that people can drive!

Hey, back to your original (nonsensical) statement, why do you think that their cars are *prototypes*?
Here is a bonus question for you (research may help pull you out of delusion), is Rivian's production ramp rate since commencing production (~3 months) equal to, more than or less than Tesla after they started production? Because if you find that Tesla was not vaporware while producing less during their initial 3 months, then why do you think that Rivian is a vaporware company?
It's ok to say that you didn't know enough about Rivian , it's ok to say it is not a car you like, but those two things don't make Rivian a fake company (again , trying to keep you in track - people with flawed arguments tend to move the goalpost).
That key fob is one of the worst…. I mean they are trying to Stan how horrible it is and try to claim it’s a pro.
