River Trent : Barbel Fishing : never mind the Bullocks

- My second visit to the 'Mighty Trent' and first session on this stretch of the river. A super Barbel made my visit well worth while - but any session on the bank is always a good one in my mind.
I'm new to river fishing and have a lot to learn about the approach to these big rivers. On my recent visit to the Wye I'd been trotting a float but here I try out the cage feeders.
I'm sharing with you what I'm doing, the learning, the mistakes and all. Eventually I'll get the hang of river fishing. With the Trent being 185 miles long the first task is to locate the fish. I'll revisit this stretch several times in the future to really get to know it.

Hi it was very enjoyable for me as I fish the Trent not to often but when I can and I know how very hard it can be at times . they don't call it the mighty Trent for nothing. Keep em coming . thanks for sharing...
Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll get back down to the Trent soon. It certainly has character. I've seen a fellow UA-camr getting some sizeable Barbel recently.

Hi Wayne, glad you said Bongo Man as I now know who you are. Hope to see you there again mate. I didn’t catch a fish they day we met, I was fishing with bait on bottom but think I need some Zig kit for a more up in the water approach. I’m happy to have some Schooling next time we meet👍. Phil

Thanks. I chatter a lot to the camera but mostly i'm sat quietly taking it all in.
Can't be disappointed with a beautiful fish like that, not the intended species, but obviously the bream weren't around on the day. Another event in the Adventures of Phil, your enjoyment is obvious.
That Barbel fought like a little demon, very spirited. There was a fair bit of flow on that day too. For me every fish is a joy to catch whatever size or species. Yes, I'm like a kid at Christmas when I'm on the bank - ask anyone who has fished with me. Thanks 👍
Edit: I also think I need to get more food in to attract the Bream shoals. I've seen people cast in several large cage feeders of free offerings, I didn't do that. There will be more opportunities to try different things.

No mate. There are quite a few day ticket stretches though, try Fiskerton - tickets from the village Post Office / shop.
