As much as I love all things Eagles (and Don Fender is my all time favourite guitar player- the lead break on One of these Nights- wow!!!!), you only have to listen to the 1994 '2nd night' Eagles Unplugged double CD which was taken straight off the mixing desk (can't believe Mr Henley ever agreed to its release!!!), to realise just how seriously overdubbed their live concert albums are and their live work has undoubtedly benefited from some serious reliance on backing tracks (vocals/harmonies) over the years. Case in point- the 1994 Hell Freezes Over 'live' album (6 million copies sold in the US alone) is more overdub than authentic live capture from the 2 nights. This overdubbing applies to all tracks, including the stand out acoustic version of Hotel California. Even my guitar hero Don Felder's classical/flamenco to the HC intro has been seriously overdubbed as it sounds nothing like what you hear when watching the DVD. As for Joe Walsh- well some of what he was playing over the 2 nights in 1994 leaves more questions than answers. Some of it is pretty shocking (on the CD) and sounds like a newly formed band having their 2nd practice together. Always felt Joe is most comfortable with lots of distortion and doing his solo stuff. Also, his (and at times the other band members) vocals are pretty poor. On the official 1994 DVD release, all of the vocals and harmonies sound perfect. And to think they were only in their early 40s then and in their musical prime when the 2 nights were recorded. Yet, we have expected/assumed they should sound perfect when playing in their 70s and do not want to believe they have been playing live using pre-recorded backing tracks for years!!! A night at The Sphere with Eagles?? Save your money and watch live clips from their 1970s shows on UA-cam!!!!
