Colonia has the world of Death. The Bubble has Mitterend Hollow. _cue cutaway of Peter holding two Ernest VHSs. Blockbuster is closing, and he can only pick one._
You forgot the most important factor Colonia is missing: almost impossible to collect engineering materials (all types, raw is almost impossible, encoded is impossible and manufacturing? Only independent factions which you can only get 3 Grade 5 mats) so basically you have to go to the bubble to farm. Also, no Guardian sites.., so you gotta go to Colonia to farm them. I love Colonia, everything is cool except those facts above. That’s why I’m leaving Colonia
Colonia is great and I feel more "at home" there than in ny part of the Bubble, but just be aware of a few limitations: there are no Superpowers in Colonia so you won't grind any Superpower rank there; likewise, a few materials related to Superpowers can't be found (like Imperial Protection) implying that you'll have to come back from time to time to "finance" engineering; some system states don't exist in Colonia so you won't find related materials/commodities either; some settlements types/ground missions don't exist either; there are no Goids or Guardian stuff in Colonia; there are very few PVP opportunities; there are no CG; there is no lore or story going on; Colonia is very lightly inhabited by human CMDRs, you will have to stay around Jacques Station if you care about Elite community feeling.
I have 2 more. Nearly all the stations have Interstellar Factors All 3 material traders are 1-2 jumps away from each other. I thought the CCN ruled Colonia ;)
Just got my Krait Mk2 to the Colonia. And I have to add some salt into this praising. 1. Engineering. How tf does Colonia has the best engineers, but little to no engineering materials? Yeah, I've been set for life with data from Jameson's crash site, but when I ran out of manufactured and raw materials... I've realised that there's just a little bit of them in the region. Either that or I'm missing something. 2. Guardian sites. Bubble has a convenient Synuefe sector right nearby, with Synuefe EN-H d11-96 being a very good spot with stations and other sh*t. Meanwhile, Colonia has Graea Hypue (QL-V b19-15)\(LS-S d4-81)\(LS-S d4-3). Well... «Has» is a far too strong word, as it's 8 and something thousands ly from it. 3. Thargoids. Absence of bugs isn't a good thing - ya know how much does Aegis pay for pest control? It was my main income source for the last couple of years! Exploration is cool too, but smashing space cockroaches in a trusty AX Krait is far more fun IMO. But yeah, Colonia region is far more compact and you can easily traverse it even in a damn Eagle. Also it has better engineers, though you'd definetly want a maxed out FSD from the old b*tch Farseer just to get there XD
I have a time share on Foster Terminal in Coeus, and I sometimes go out there for a few weeks or months at a time, but my squad is mainly based in the bubble when we aren't on an expedition so it's hard to stay out there for too long. It is very pretty and has a frontier feel to it. It's also a small neighborhood of sorts, since if you piss off a local faction you quickly find out everyone in Colonia suddenly hates you lol.
I have been in Colonia for a few months now and went to buy a Scorpion SRV. Nearest dealer? 22,431 light years away. Need to find an anarchy system in outbreak? 22,000+ ly away. Colonia is a cool place and I'm glad I went there, but they don't have everything that you can get in the bubble. I guess that adds to the realism.
Uhm, the Bubble is around Sol. So around both your real life home and our civilization's home in-game. That's why it's there. There are no bugs in Colonia....yet. And they're not a problem but the solution - billions of credits per day to be made and finance all your dreams including visiting Colonia, deep space exploration, going to Sag A, etc.
In the process of setting up my fleet carrier with all the engineered ships I might need, as well as topping up on all metrials, etc., then I shall set out, taking my time to get there, enjoying the trip while leaving my second account I just got in the bubble to grind away on it's own fleet carrier.
I got rid of my carrier, it was more pain than it was worth for exploration, the short jump range and stops to grind tritium was just too much of a grind. I can make the trip to Colonia much faster in my Aspx or Dbx. I think Fleet Carriers need to be reworked. They need to be smaller and a minimum of 1500ly jump range, they need to look like small docks instead of aircraft carriers. They should be equipped with a biodome with only 2-3 landing pads, small and medium.
On my way back to the bubble after a 60000 ly Colonia Sag A loop. Just have to say that it is not for cmdrs with OCD. You will be compelled to map everything. 😅
what is the quickest way to get to colonia? I don't have a lot of spare time at the minute but after seeing this video, I now really want to go! edit: also before I start my voyage is there anything I should do before? (e.g. guardian unlocks and empire/fed rank)
Quickest way is to hit the neutron Highway with a ship with good jumprange, but you can always check for a Fleet Carrier Ferry on FCOC discord, If you want to engineer here, check this old video of mine first: ua-cam.com/video/9MY77Ji7H80/v-deo.html&t
Question. How do you get the engineers unlocked in colonial? Never been, but I’m currently 5000 Ly away from the bubble, in a lone inhabited star inside a nebula. I really don’t want to go back and just go straight to colonia, but at least want to make sure I can get engineers unlocked first.
To unlock Mel you have to get a friendly rep with Colonia Council Faction + 100k cr worth of bounty vouchers, to unlock Marsha you need surveor rank in exploration + 10 tons of osmium, to unlock Petra you need expert combat rank and 200 units of progenitor cells, and finally Etienne Dorn will want for you to have dealer trader rank and to bring him 25 occupied escape pods (you can get them easly from megaship in Luchtaine system - when you hack it) obviously you have to be friends with few bubble engineers as well, Elvira, Todd, Dweller and Liz if I remember correctly.
Two question's, can one obtain any and all of the various modual's one may desire for a particual load out. And of all the available station's, which one should I make my home station. I've been a resident of Jameson Memorial for more than 7,000 hour's. Older now, the bubble has gotten so full of wanna be's. The constant interdiction's, and seeking of materail's, I've come to the end of the line and looking to resettle somewhere else. I've got only three ship's one of which I use to utilize only for the delivering of cargo once a month for power play. And will be soon selling it. Leaving only two that I'd have transferred to Colonia. After gettng there via a bus or flying a Diamond back, which I'd purchase, utilize for the long trip, then sell once I get there.
Between Colonia Dream in Ratraii, Colonia Hub and Jaques Station in Colonia system - you should be able to get every module with very few minor exceptions. Every tech broker, every engineer and every material trader is just a jump or two away but there might be a problem in obtaining superpower made ships like Corvette or Cutter. There were alliance ships avaible in Carcosa system - but that only happens if the system is in anarchy state, when The Nameless rule it. Which might be or it may not be - as it is a subject of pretty much constant war between two human player factions, one of which is not an anarchy faction. :) also if you are planning on engineering here - it is a good idea of stacking up on superpower related mats as well, I'm thinking imperial shielding and Core Dynamic composites :) As to where to base yourself, you've got to visit them systems and choose where you like it best, I would avoid Colonia system - it's a pvp territory - If you know what I mean ;) Besides Jaques Station is the most traffic heavy station in the game, constanty plugged by tourists Belugas.
As much as Colonia sounds great, How does one engineer ships in Colonia? Are there any engineers in Colonia? I can't function without and engineered ship. I guess, if you have all the ships you want, then it would not be an issue.
I havent played elite for a few months now, I pretty much gave up on it. I dont wanna have anything to do with Fdev and their products anymore and the silly clown fiesta of a war with the thargoids...But after watching this video, being reminded of Colonia which I forgot about visiting cause of the absolute demotivation Fdev constantly caused throughout the years..Maybe, maybe I should start the engines of my Conda one final time. One last quest, a long and lonesome journey to forget the past..and maybe to rediscover, at least a part, of the Commander who I once was. I think I'll take you on, Colonia. Lets roll the dice one last time and see what we get! The rest is up to the stars. o7
Why bother, just pick up a team trading mission to move Cutter worth of cargo for 50M to a system that's one jump away, get few friends, to do the same, share them missions when cashing in, easy Bill in a day... you keep ferrying those Sothis tourist or whatever though, lol
Thargoids? Haha, you fools supported the Colonia Bridge project, they'll follow it to you if we fail. Should have stuck with the 13 original planetary ports we build years ago. The rest of the bridge wasn't needed. :)
If Colonia had thargoids (so I can grind them), a station like Jameson Memorial that requires Elite I rank (not trading rank), a bit more engineers, cool places and guardian sites then I would go there.
