    Gotten the Ludwig XI here in Singapore. Couldn’t be better! The bike is so buttery smooth to ride and quiet. And the design is so cool and slick.

    In the US, Priority Bikes uses Gates belts exclusively. They don't ship to the EU. They do have two models which feature the German Pinion Gear system as well as several Shimano offerings.

    I've got a belt drive bike 5 years ago. Its absolutely great. Maybe my next is from Schindelhauer. But the price tag ist very high.

    I have two belt-driven motorcycles. I want a belt-driven bicycle, too.

    Outstanding. Wish I could get one (actually two) here in the US!

      You can get a belt drive bike here in the US. I've got a Priority Turi that currently sells for $899 US and it also has an Eviolo NuVinci rear hub with a 300% ratio. I almost said "gear ratio" but that's almost a misnomer since there are no actual "gears" to it, at least not in the traditional sense. It is a pleasure to ride...
      ...and the belt drive is so quiet it's spooky. On a smooth road that the tires are quiet on you move like a ghost, almost totally silent, and you begin to focus on the sound of your own breathing.

    This is going to be the measure of bike shops around the world now. Shops that stock parts for the new technology bikes coming out: belts, cogs, hubs and all the hardware that make them work. In ten or fifteen years derraileur cassettes and chain drives will be dinosaurs that only a few bike shops will stock parts for.

    Purchasing a gates belt bike this month cost £850. Few things, there not completely maintenance free, you still need to clean the belt if it's dirty with water, and you need to check if the belt is tensioned properly and tension it if necessary. Def less maintenance though than a chain and cleaner and quieter.

      Because it's a city bike, I never once cleaned the belt with water besides the start and end of season. And no, you don't need to check your belt..

    I love the belt, but don't really like the forward leaning riding position. I'd prefer the upright sitting position.

      Its not as hard to change the handlebar. It makes a HUGE difference.

    Where's the backup if you have technical issues? You can't just pop down to your local bike shop and get them to take a look!

    Beim Kettenantrieb sind mir die normalen Ketten schon nach anderthalb Jahren allein im Stadtverkehr so schnell ausgeleiert , dass ich mir schließlich lieber teurere leistete, weil sonst auch die Zahnkränze schneller verschlissen.

      Der Gates Riemen hat seit 2012 die "Center Track" Technologie, dies ist eine Einkerbung in der Mitte des Riemens, womit er auf den Ritzeln gehalten wird und quasi in einer "Spur" läuft, daher gibt es kein Überspringen und Rutschen. Da der Riemen nie durchhängt, ist der initiale Kraftaufwand im Antritt höher, dadurch hast du aber keine Verluste durch Schmutz, Rost und Verschleiß, und der Riemen benötigt kein Fett und daher kaum Wartung. Allein dadurch, dass ein Gates CDX Riemen mindestens 4x länger als eine Kette hält, ist die Technologie für uns optimal für die Stadt.

    Checked my local dealer's website for these bikes. Wow, that's some crazy prices. I wonder how you justify them? I can get similar spec bikes from established brands for a quarter of the price.

    • @K1989L
      @K1989L 3 роки тому +1

      No you can't. OR they are not "similar spec".

    • @bugsygoo
      @bugsygoo 3 роки тому

      @@K1989L You're right. They are not similar spec. They are better. Just had a quick look at their website. Take the Gustav. €1600. Last month my wife bought the cube hyde pro. Same shimano hub and better brakes on the Cube. (the Gustavus aren't hydraulic) The was €800. Please, tell me where I can get a bike from these guys for €800 with a belt drive, 8 speed nexus hub and hydraulic brakes. Looking forward to your response.

    • @K1989L
      @K1989L 3 роки тому

      @@bugsygoo Well they are not quite same but similar. Cube lacks lights, fenders and the front rack. And if you like your bikes in color or have even a little bit of character then the cube is not the right choise.
      For us here the difference is 550€. So it comes down to what weighs in your basket.

    • @bugsygoo
      @bugsygoo 3 роки тому

      @@K1989L I can get a lot of lights, fenders and racks for €800! There's not even hydraulic brakes! And the rest is subjective. I am hugely jealous of my wife's bike; it is a fantastic bike and also made in Germany, I believe. I think it's great that there is another company making bikes. I hope they succeed massively. I just don't see what I'm getting for that much money.

    • @K1989L
      @K1989L 3 роки тому

      @@bugsygoo Cube bikes are good value. They make a ton of bikes and I think in many sizes too. But the design of Schindelhauer is way more interesting. Cube looks very mainstream to my eye.
      For me I really like the frame mounted front rack the Gustav has. But I wish it had a little more clearance for bigger tires and a single-speed option. That! Would be very hard to pass.!

  • @capricornmagic63
    @capricornmagic63 3 роки тому +1

    So all you're paying for is less grease, less noise and a bit more durability. Is it worth the money?

    • @ninhful
      @ninhful 3 роки тому

      I have the same thought and have liked your comment. But, to be fair, this is just a mistake of focusing too much on the belt in the video. It doesn't mean that the belt is the only good thing on these bikes. The firm has also had the bikes tested by a team of testers. That kind of security and reliability features are not visible to the naked eyes.

    Yeah let's sell bikes that is not available anywhere and nobody can purchase, why bother with selling them on a website? lets be forced to go through a dealer not even available in our area and then claim to be all for green and carbon free and a bunch of crap like that. Who are these people even fooling? there are no belt driven bikes that you can buy online
