- Thunderbolt Siren ambience Alert/Attack signal test from early May of 1986.Family dog howling at sirens in background. At 2:49-2:54 the sound of the 1000 model that's is "embedded" in the 1000T audible is the siren that is pictured as audio wallpaper. I remember hearing a siren in Reading.. I was standing there with my cousin, and it went off. I was very scared something came.. It was the year 2011 when everybody thought the world started to end... It went on, and on for a few hours, then it turned off. What a relief for my ears. :-)
What kind if sirens were in that system? Was it all thunderbolt? I thought I could hear a 2T22 throughout the video.
Yes, all Thunderbolts, 2T22's heard in distance during the Alert/Attack intermission.
PasJanMakMarSky Vids Those 3T22s heard in the distance in between alert and attack modes were probably the ones in Boys Town, which unfortunately have been replaced here recently. I dearly miss this old sound, so much more attention-getting with all the different pitches and mix of single and dual tones than the current monotoned T-128s that (for the most part) all sound the same. Wish they would still test both signals too, would be wicked eerie to hear all those T-128s in attack!
.murrfarms Yes,those 2T22's were from Boys Town,I would like to hear the T-128s in Attack mode via ambience,but no one has an upload of it -at least not yet..

so that is what the end of humanity in the 80s cold war sounded like.... Trying to find archives of my closest cities system (baltimore MD) aparently it was the first city on the east coast to adopt an extensive system and was one of the major FS purchasees of 11+ thunderbolt 1000s, and a SHIT ton of Model 5s. Most of the Tbolts are still in place, and only about half of them still work, if that. Some were jail bar, some bumble bolts. Still there...
