HOVERAir X1 vs DJI Mini 2 Comparison

- Опубліковано 28 вер 2023
- While we think the HOVERAir X1 and DJI Mini 2 fall into different product categories, they can perform some similar functions. We don't think 1 will completely replace the other based on what each can and cannot do. Here are some comparisons:
Big differences:
- X1 can follow you automatically without user having to hold a controller
- X1 can be launched quickly and while on the move
- X1's range is limited to about 50 ft above and away from you
- Mini 2 has a separate controller to connect to phone and takes longer to setup
- Mini 2 has better image and video quality and can go much higher and further away from the user
- Mini 2's battery lasts about 30 minutes, X1's about 10 minutes
- Mini 2 has SD Card slot (more storage)
- X1 has only onboard storage (limited storage)
Similarities:
- Both can fly with manual controls where you can film at whatever angle you want
- Both have preset modes like Orbit, Birds Eye, and Zoom-out at an angle
Both are great and can be used for similar (and different) shots. Hope this helps someone understand what is right for them and share their adventure they way they want!
Great comparison! Also audio function(with deep noise cancelling) is very important.
Very useful. I was considering getting the x1 to get some fishing shots. Saved me fr
Thanks.
I went with teh X1 based on a YTer recommandation (guy has a travel channel). Got it for what it does best: ease of use, no cell phone, etc. Just like you mentionned.
Great comparison!
I love the idea of the Hover Air X1, but the camera quality looks kind of disappointing. I hope to see them come out with a better version.
Very useful. Thank you
Useful. Thanks!
i own both. but use the x1 way more because the start up time is about 10 seconds. where the dji can take several minute
We've found the same. The X1 is just so easy to pull out and get going!
Great comparison , I want both ! 😊
@@hotchihuahua1546 I understand!
Can the dji do automatic tracking? I’m new to drones and the 1x sounds appealing for what I’m looking for in a drone, but I want to make sure there’s not any better options first before I go ahead with it.
@@michaelthaddeus9773 The Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro do, but they're a lot bigger, expensive and take some time to set up.
I love the music!
Thank you, help fun..
good stuff
Thank you. You didn't mention cost.
Great comparison! I’ve been looking at getting a DJI MINI for months, but I may change my mind. 😎
Hope the video was helpful! Really depends on what you would like to use it for I think. Good luck!
My own view is get the Hover X1 for everyday carrying around and hikes. For more 'serious' drone stuff get the Mini 4 Pro and the RC2 controller. Massive and bulky compared to the X1 but not too bad for things like car camping or on a boat. To me, a tiny DJI that still has to be set up and faffed about with just isn't worth the hassle. You'll soon get bored and leave it at home, or I did with my Mavic Air. I just checked and in 4 years I've done less than 2 hours of flight time with it. My little Hover however has already racked up an hour, and I've had it less than a month!
GREAT👍👍👍
Thanks much, great comparison 😊
My hx1 should arrive soon ❤
Also the last following through the woods shot is the Hover x1 right?
They are definitely different machines...probably not fair to compare them. We find the X1 super user friendly and easy to put up. Yes, the following though the woods was the X1. Hope you enjoy!!
@WillowWalksTheAT true that to all your comment ☺️
Thanks much I did ❤️
very nice!!
Glad you enjoyed!
The comparison i was looking for. thanks for doing this! Yeah, not be able to hover over water and big drop is a pass for me. Can't use to go to the beach or hike on mountains and it's a bit pricey. Will wait if they can do that on their X2. Or DJI can add the same features.
Glad it was helpful! Definitely has limitations...but we do like it for hiking in mountains...here's a vid we did flying it around cliffs on a hike: ua-cam.com/video/Jfvcgwy6lp0/v-deo.htmlsi=ULl6x1x1cN8tyBcf
I haven't tried steep cliffs but I tried flying my X1 away from myself on some steps and it didn't seem to care about that type of drop-off. As for the beach, it handles winds well and I just avoid flying it directly over water. I recall years ago, when I got my Mavic Air, that like 90% of the vids on UA-cam showed peeps flying over water, perhaps because that's something you can't do normally. I think the whole "I can fly over water!" thing has faded, certainly it has for me. The huge difference though is my XI is still in my satchel with a couple of charged batteries, so I can do a dronie or wotnot whenever I feel like it. Launching, getting the shot and putting it away takes around 60 seconds. The DJI takes longer just to get your phone on and connected to the controller, then you have to wait for a GPS lock, probably have to update some firmware, calibrate the compass... I just gave up with my Air and leave it at home, even on a recent hiking holiday in Greece. In contrast I literally took the X1 with me on a walk in the park the other day and decided to play around with it (see the vid on my channel).
You can get a Potensic Atom or Fimi X8 Mini practically for the price of this. 4K30 and almost as good as the DJI drones.
If you want something compact and much cheaper, get the Ryze Tello. Its only 720p but its image stabilized and 5MP. Theres also apps now that offer orbit and follow me (not perfect). But, its more of a drone you can manually fly and only around $100. This HoverX1 is limited in the manual flying realm.
The Tello is woeful (and doesn't record to SD - so it is totally dependent on the strength of the WiFi connection). I've had one, and would never recommend it.
I think the x1 would come in more handy on day hikes up in the mountains stuff like that. What do you all think?
Our opinion, yes. Easier to set-up
Hi, this is a great video. Thank you.
I saw the case that you use to store the hover X1, how can I get one?
Thanks

Glad you enjoyed!
We put a link in this video...not sure if Bass Pro ships internationally though
I am not sure about over water and long drop-offs. I think in orbit mode it simply rises to the desired height and distance and then maintains level flight. At least that is how it appears in several videos.
I'm not sure either...we've been a little risky with it over shallow ponds, streams and small drop-offs, but we always make sure we could quickly recover it if the X1 gets confused and wants to auto-land
Did it really autoland on water?
Still love the zoom
I hope hover x1 will produce more drones that can be confit dji drones
salut~well picture,😉
How about comparing similar functionality between the HoverAir and DJI products: X1 vs the DJI Spark, which most closely matches its flight time, palm launch, and person-centric piloting. It would seem to be a better comparison for similar purposes, despite the age of the Spark.
Good idea! I think the spark is discontinued, but main reason is we just have these 2 to compare. Thx for the comment

My DJI cannot track, but I think the newer ones do have a tracking feature. There should be plenty of videos/reviews on the newer ones out there. We posted some more vids using the X1 that may be helpful regarding the X1's features as you do your research. Good luck!
@@WillowWalksTheAT thank you!
I want to know how to avoid the obstacles when you walk on the forest
Something in the software causes it to follow you. It doesn't really avoid obstacles but tracks you...meaning you have to walk wide around trees so it has room to pass them.
Sorry for asking but whst happens if i try to film a jetski with the hover, would it fall in the water ?
Hmmm, I wouldn't try that. I suspect it might work a couple times, but would eventually get confused and auto land
Can the DJI Mini do the equivalent of Dolly Track mode of the X1? Dolly Track mode lets the X1 fly in front of you, showing your face as it tracks your movement. But it easily gets confused and veers off.
I do not think it can
@@WillowWalksTheAT Thank you for your reply. Do you still have the DJI Mini 2 to be able to find out?
Nice comparison. where did you get the case to store the x1?
Found it at Bass Pro Shops...it the one sized at 5.23" x 3.46" x 1.85"
www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-watertight-case?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=BPS%7CShopping%7CPMax%7CProprietary%7CGeneral%7CNAud%7CNVol%7CNMT&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvb-zBhCmARIsAAfUI2t7TNKQsYrLsseG5M5EPhrh5AnuP7VqhLaCahivswDoYT3muZZQBFEaAgx8EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
To take pictures, yes the hover×1, but to have fun I think 🤔 mini 2 is the best 👌.
Have you ever zoomed out away from you towards water? I ask since I'm going to Bora Bora next month and want to know it I can zoom out from my over water bungalow
I've only tried over shallow streams and it worked fine. I typically only get risky with it if I think I can jump in to catch the X1 if it decides to start landing....which seems to be it's default reaction when it gets confused. Hope this helps!
So meaning hover X1 is more on tracking down a person and DJI is more on the scenery is that what you mean?
Basically yes
🧐 Where in the world did you get a hard case carry for the HoverAir X1 (?)
Cabellas of all places. Searched long and hard and found a perfect fit. Their website is a bit confusing regarding dimenstions, so if you live near a Cabellas/Bass Pro Shop, best to try it out in person IMO. We did this vid with more info on it: ua-cam.com/video/o8zokPuNwEE/v-deo.htmlsi=sFS8Olpbler9M-P4
I got mine from the Hover website itself
Ive just sold my dji mini for the x1. Wish id done side by side comparisons of set up to flight and various modes. X1 is so much easier and convenient .
ps. where is the clear case from?
It's the smaller sized one from Bass Pro Shops...link in this vid we did: ua-cam.com/video/o8zokPuNwEE/v-deo.htmlsi=3d9OGChE2kYgWtXR
Not sure if it ships worldwide though...
There is just NO comparrison..two very different devices. I have the Mini 4 Pro and the Air 2. I will be using the Hover Air for my hikes and cycling.
Agreed 👍
How could you use the hover X1 on your camping or bike riding while you can use only for just 6 minutes then it will fall like e dead bat falling in the sky.
@rodolfobaliga7577 Works for us since we just throw it up for 15-20 seconds at a time for specific shots
Hello, where i can buy the hoverair x1 drone bag? Transparent
I found the clear case in the US at Bass Pro Shops, which I believe does not ship to Europe. The below case appears to be the same and it looks like it will ship to Europe. Hope this is helpful!
www.flambeauoutdoors.com/Fishing/Hard-Storage/HD-Marine-Series/hd-tuff-box-300-series
@@WillowWalksTheAT oh! Im from Europe 😰
@@uxjordan The linked website indicates they do ship to Europe... but currently out of stock
I mean the mini 3 or 4 pro can do all of this extremely well
Agreed! We only had the Mini 2 to compare the X1 with. The DJIs are definitely more capable overall. For the shots we like, mostly while hiking/backpacking, we find ourselves preferring the X1's small size and ability to launch one-handed without a controller while walking. Also with the X1, definately not going to get the cinematic video quality that I see in your videos!
Here's a vid we did testing the X1 while hiking:
ua-cam.com/video/U235CJBt5ZM/v-deo.htmlsi=l6Qith97eUIs_Sp9
No it cannot, the mini 3 and the 4 pro need to be controlled, the X1 can act on its own based on the mode chosen. I don’t get why some of you make comments about stuff you do not know about
I doubt that the Mini 2 has better image quality. The X1 camera is more recent, hence it is rather the opposite. It is not all about maximal resolution.
What do you mean?
It's not about it's pixel size
The X1 has great modes but I'd rather wait until the image quality improves with a newer version
Definately understand...it is what it is currently
Same here and I'm super new to drones... was looking for something I could turn into my personal photographer and the X1 seems to be the answer.
The current image quality of the X1 is very very good, except you are examining with a fine tooth comb you will not notice the difference for the distances the X1 is built to cover
@@gbej1 how many MPs is the camera?
@@Nakx95 It films at 2.7K resolution at 30fps
How much is that?
Price seems to fluctuate with discounts:

Also on Amazon now.
Good comparison! If I would to choose between the two. I would choose the dog.
Haha! Her battery lasts longer too
What is this Music?! It is DOPE!!!
Glad you dug it...it's from Bonnie Grace project: www.last.fm/music/Bonnie+Grace/+wiki#:~:text=Bonnie%20Grace%20is%20a%20musical,at%20the%20age%20of%20eleven.
What's the name of this one?
Used 2 songs..."May you have" is the first one. Can't remember the 2nd one tho
in the uk the hoverair will need op id a flyer id and remote id new regs in jan 2024
Wow interesting to hear
Op id is £10.33 a year and that’s all you need, it does not need a flyer id nor a remote id according to the Civil Aviation Authority so where did you get your information from?
Ive watch numerous videos on these drones... every one including yours, the videos are washed out or to much contrast. Only way id buy one is off of Alli Express @ $40.00 instead of $390.00 on Amazon
Definitely not the best resolution
40$ is fake one
Tjere are other types of selfie drones way better than Hx1
Such as
Got the hover x1 drone last week , worst decision ever : looks and feels like a 20$ Chinese toy drone , experiencing loads of issues: low battery life - 5-6 minutes, to recharge the batteries is taking 1h - for 5 minutes of flight , loads connectivity problems, camera good but not great , image is not focused on bigger screen , no GPS, no obstacle avoidance, cannot take on to the beach due strong winds and all this for 469£ , that’s a price for a 4k DJI drone with loads of features. For me a bad decision!
Too bad! We made this vid hoping to help people decide if the X1 would work for them. Hopefully they'll give you a refund...
You cannot get any DJI drone complete with the controller and all you need to fly it for £469 so stop the cap. Also your Hover X1 must be defective as it lasts much longer than 5min, moreover you can get extra batteries
He bought literally a chinese imitation of x1
@@SideQuestTravelVlogs there is no chinese imitation of x1 made yet , X1 itself is made in China. For me this drone is a failed project !
Yes sir 👏
You're comparing apples to oranges
Yes sir, helping folks see how they are totally different
