      because the brush creates tons of vector points making the data in the file bigger if your making a graphic for web, optimization is essential and you can get probably a tenth or less data making the shapes with a pen tool then you would with a brush.

    I love all the people in the comments saying "oh they're just tracing I could do that." I'll believe it when I see it. Any novice tracing an image knows nothing of lineweights, what to make a line and what not to, how to do hatching, or a million other things only an artist knows. If you people traced an image it'd look no where near as clean as this.

    Pretty sure if the OP was doing in his own leisure time he d draw from scratch, but this is within a time frame, to deliver results within a fixed time frame. @wagsss 7 років тому +74

      It depends on the style you're going for! If you wanted to make something more cartoonish in nature, such as making the proportions disproportionate, then yes, it would be better to draw by reference. By tracing, it still maintains accurate proportions, and it's the cell shading and lining that makes it look cartoonish, yet still realistic.

    • @hats4pigeons132
      @hats4pigeons132 7 років тому +67

      most artists trace when they want to do likenesses or realism, it's easier/faster and is still quality work, it's not cheating in any way and isn't lesser than hand drawn pieces unless they try to pass it off as entirely free-handed or if it is traced off of someone else's work

    • @UNICLYPSE
      @UNICLYPSE 7 років тому +11

      No I totally get it, I do it too, but I usually try to reference first, get my own flare into it, if it's not what I like then I just trace the basic stuff and go from there.

    Dope finish truly. But im just not a fan of ppl tracing images, tweaking them and touching them up, selling them, and still calling it art.

      So, what is real art then?

      Sydney Alvelo so if a customer wanted you to make an animated version of them based off a picture, you would say that’s not real art? lmaoooo.

      Nana Wordie he meant like not drawing / tracing on top of the image and call it art. Which I agree coz I think it’s a skill to draw a portrait without tracing it. Other than when you are practicing lol

      Hahahaha dude c'mon is hard to do it I invited you to do it by yourself. This guy is talented he has a really good technique probably you are jealous. You do not have any idea about vectors is for that reason you are saying that. People that critic design are people that doesn't have any idea about illustrator.

    • @prixtn
      @prixtn 6 років тому +23

      the outline itself can be done by a kid tho. and thats my point. im an artist too but i dont draw OVER an existing picture. i draw it by myself. no jealous

      Dezox oh, so you're better than everybody else? Okay. You call yourself an artist, but you bring other artists down just because it's different from yours.

      zrcjin Did I say I'm better than everyone else? No.
      I have already explained my point above, but for you again: He just trace the picture and colors it. Wow. He can color well, dont get me wrong. But that's all it, at least for this video.
