Hey Brother. Thanks for sending the warm weather. We had record-breaking warm weather the other day. It's nice and warm here +60. But it's only March. We can get snow yet.
Anyway, get to building your new shop and house. You will be all set and happier when that happens.
I had Keith re-sharpen my drill bits a couple of week ago. (Drill Dr.)
I have the same problem with not staying with one project. I have at least 4 jobs going on all the time. A.T.D.D.
    Thanks for sharing Brother.🍁👍👍🐕‍🦺

Hi Pat I was curious if you could give me some input. I'm going to be replacing the rear main seal in our 38 Chevy. It was starting to leak a little too much the last time we had it out. Anyway was wondering if you had any suggestions or preferences on seals as far as brand or ??? whatever. This is a 2 piece seal by the way. This is a 383 stroker. Would the seal be different in anyway? I figured I'd ask the GM master. Never hurts to humble yourself and ask questions before you do something stupid. 😅

I'm Assuming You Will Be Removing The Engine From The Car!!! Correct?
Although It Technically Can Be Done In Chassis I Don't Recommend It!!!
Being A 2 Piece Seal The Crank Needs To Be Dropped A Little For Seal Installation Into The Block Side Of The Seal!!! You Also Need To Inspect The Crank Itself For Any Groves That May Cause The Seal To Not Seal Well!!!
As Far As Brand I Can't Say Anything Other Than A Fel-Pro Seal!!! Not That Any Others Are Bad Or Anything I Just Don't Know Any Other Brand Names!!!
I Personally Put A Little Ultra Black Sealant On The Rear Main Seal Between The Seal And The Block!!! Down In The Grove Before I Pust The Seal Into The Block Or Cap!!! Kind Of Gluing It In!!! Also A Spot Of Sealant Between The 2 Halfs As I'm Installing The Rear Main Cap!!!
Now None Of This Guarantees The Damn Thing Won't Leak When Done Because The Damn Things Leaked When New!!!
Can Hear Every Valve Rattle Or Leaks Every Time!!! Chevrolet!!!! So Keep That In Mind!!! 🤣😂😆
So I Suggest You Pull The Engine, Put It On A Stand, Turn It Over, Pull The Crank(Can Be Done Without Removing The Heads Or Pistons) And Be Sure The Grove The Seal Sits In Is Ultra Clean And Dry Of ANY OIL Residue And Then Applie The Ultra Black Permatex Sealant To The Seal Grove And Then Install The Seal The Crank!!! Just A Touch Of Grease On The Seal Where It Rides Against The Crank!!! Then Torque It All Back Down!!!
With The Engine Out And Upside Down Installing A 4 Piece Oil Pan Gasket Will Be MUCH Easier And You Will Have A Better Chance Your Pan Doesn't Leak!!!
When Installing These Old Style Gaskets The Cleaner And The Dryer The Surface Is The Better It Will Seal!!! Any Oil Left On Any Seal Surface Will Cause It To Not Seal And Ultimately Leak Again!!!! Get It Dry And It Will Fly, Leave It Wet And You Will Regret!!!!
      Hope That Helps You Brother!!!
Thanks for Watching and Keep Rocking!!!

@rockerpat1085 Hey Pat thanks for the reply and I truly appreciate your tips and opinions. All though I feel a little deflated now!!! 🤣
No, I didn't plan on taking the engine out. I would always agree it would be 10 times easier for the seal repair I fear the whole process of taking out the engine just for that. It just seems like a can of worms begging to be opened! On a positive side this engine only has about 9K miles on it. It was a crate engine. So I'm hoping the crank surface where the seal rides isn't worn out. I've been threw that with several of the tractors I've done.
Maybe I'll attempt to do it in place, but if I have any doubts or issues I'll just take it out.

@Jason1Pa 9 Thousand Miles On A New Crate Engine Sounds Like There Shouldn't Be Any Problems With The Rear Main Seal At All!!! Are We 100% Sure It's The Rear Main? Have You Inspected The Rear Intake Seal? Did You Use The Rubber Seal At The Back Or Did You Use Silicone? Also Check The Oil Pressure Sensor For Leakage!!! Both Could Send Oil Into The Same Area As The Rear Main Seal!!! Leaking On The Ground In The Same Spot!!! I'm Not There So I'm Just Throwing Out Some Other Possibilities For You To Check First!!!
