I would like to add that the ink charging process does take half of the ink out of your cartridges, but you did not "lose" the ink. It's still there for you to use.. it's just in the lines and not in the cartridge. So when you go replace the cartridges, you have 1 full cartridge, but you also have 1/2 of your previous cartridge still in the lines. This is because most inkjet cartridges are situated directly over the print head, but that wasn't really possible with the Pro 1000 without making it a very tall printer. so there are tubes running from the cartridge to the print head, and they contain ink pretty much at all times once you've charged it once.
The ink costs and weight made me choose the pro 300 rather than the 1000. I figured on the occasion I wanted 17 inches I could send it to a lab. Great review and I agree the major pro for me is the ability to see your images in a whole new way.
Absolutely! I think if I were to purchase again I'd go with the pro 300. In hindsight it seems like the more practical choice. Just have to close my eyes when I buy ink. Thanks for watching!
The costs per ml, actually the Pro 1000 is cheaper. Tim from Fotospeed has a very good video on that. Also Red River has done in-depth testing on various printers and has a chart with price per sheet of paper in different sizes

I was considering buying this printer but I heard that for non-intensive use (hobby), the canon Pro-1000 would waste up to 50% of the ink with expensive periodical cleaning cycles. I researched a bit online and some users mention a weekly nozzle check pattern print removes the need for the deep clean cycles. 1 - In your experience, would printing once a week significantly change this outcome? 2 - Under this-type of low usage and knowing I could go for weeks without printing (but printing nozzle check patterns weekly), long term what % of the very expensive cartridge set would end up in the waste box? Thanks in advance!

Wise decision, I ended up putting a Canon Pro 1 in a skip - fully working. I couldn't cope with the use of ink during cleaning every 60 hours. Cost me a fortune until I scrapped it. I now own an Epson ET 7750, I have had it profiled for my standard 24" rolls of paper I cut to suit the size I want. This printer is dirt cheap to run.
I own the same printer, been printing for four years now with no issues. They say the print head only lasts for a certain period of time, and a new one is between $700-$800. To avoid wasting ink, you need to print at least one to two prints every 2-3 days, otherwise you do lose lots of the ink to the,maintenance cartridge. I pretty much print 8.5x11 and 17x22 prints, and the inks last. Also making sure your monitor is color calibrated "and soft proofing your print" helps with the finished print. Once you dial in your monitor then it's pretty much smooth sailing from there. In regards to inks and cost. Printing photos is not cheap, paper and inks will add up over time. But there is nothing like seeing your work on a photo paper, especially hanging on a wall, it's not the same as looking at it on a digital screen.
Hey there! No paper rolls, just sheets up to A2 and doesn't have/need a built-in cutter or anything like that. You'd want to jump up to the Prograf 2100 for larger roll prints.
Why the loud music behind the vocal in this video? Is the music the message or is the speaker conveying the message with his voice. It's the voice for me. The music adds nothing to the presentation and in my thought takes away from the overall message.
Be aware that if you run into any significant issues with this printer Canon offers NO REPAIR SERVICE whatsoever on the Pro 1000. Mine recently refused to power on, called tech support and followed their instructions. Ultimately the printer still refused to power on and the tech said it was dead and my ONLY option was to purchase a new printer as they do not offer any repair services on this printer. So BUYER BEWARE . . .
That's good know and what a strange issue. I wasn't aware that it was considered unrepairable and of course I didn't purchase Canon Care for it because I figured it'd be alright for awhile. Hopefully it lasts. Thanks for the info!

It seems incredibly insane to me that you have to trash such an expensive printer for a single, probably solvable issue. I'm going to take it apart to see if there's anything I can figure out. I've posted to LULA and some other forums to see if anyone might have some sort of service manual for it - can't hurt. I was considering the Epson SC 5000 (it's on sale for $1,000 off right now) but have read horror stories about it as well from a lot of owners. I guess the major advantage of an Epson is you can buy a long term service agreement for it and Epson DOES offer repair service on it as opposed to Canon.

Since they allow head replacement, you'd think other components would be replaceable as well. Even before I started photographing events, I decided that printing was something that I wanted wanted to do. My first printer was a Canon Pixma pro 9000mk11,I purchased the printer from B&H PHOTO at a time that Canon came out with a new line of printers, the printer cost 600 dollars before it was discontinued, l paid 150 dollars after the sale price and rebates. The printer took 8 inks it was a dye inkjet printer. I made countless numbers of prints, some I sold, some I gave as gifts, some were framed and countless were given to clients who hired me to photograph events. The max size print was 13 x 19 inches and the quality was outstanding. Many years later I print with Canon Pixma pro 200, it also takes dye inks. If you consider yourself a serious photographer,printing is the way to go. I never looked to get into event photography, I shared my prints with family and colleagues and they started asking me photograph different events. You can say that printing opened so may doors to myself and my camera equipment. I no longer photograph events but I still print and frame most of my work.
You need to leave the printer powered on and not turn it off. If you turn it off, it does a head clean every time you turn it on so wasting ink. If you are not going to print a photo every day or so, just print a nozzle check. As to the ink use during the initial set up, the ink stays in the lines so you have what is in the cartridges plus all the lines.
Go online and go to ink owl they sell cartridges and ink for the pro 1000 it's not Canon ink it's 99% the same ink you don't even have to empty your cartridges you can just fill them right up top quality ink for a third of the price don't waste your money on Canon ink.

Just bought a PRO-1000 and the quality is superb, but it probably doesn't make sense unless you're printing on an almost daily basis.
With the latest update you can use roll paper now :)
