As a white dude from Canada, born and raised on rock n roll... Until i heard Sam Cooke, which opened my ears to soul music. Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, and on and on. I have 2 huge framed paintings of Otis/Sam that ended up saving my life from a fire... Just happened to notice weird "disco lights" reflecting off the glass, i go to the kitchen and roll my window blinds up to reveal a massive fire engulfing the outside of the building. I lost everything but those painting (grabbed them off the wall and ran out). Anyways, sorry for the long story. Long live the kings of soul ❤
The production on this song , is absolutely why digital will never , ever , ever replace a good studio, real instruments, real musicians, real engineers, reel to reel tape, and Real Talent, Rip Sam. ❤✌️
I feel the same way. This was my dear departed husband's favorite song. Still gets me tearful. Peace and love to you and your loved ones. Stay strong in faith. ❤️
This is such a classic! This is the type of music I listen to on a daily basis, my kids too! They just don’t make music like this no more unfortunately! 💯❤️
Motown is awesome! I wish we had music like this today. I grew up in the 80’s listening to heavy metal, hard rock and classic rock. Motown, Oldies and Folk were also a part of my regular music rotation too. I loved many genres, was never big into pop but some 80’s retro is poppy and there’s a few other exceptions for good songs.
Agree, one of the greatest songs ever. The 5th dimension did a cover/medley that held my soul together through my high school years. And still play it every 4rth of July close to 50 years later.
Would love to see you react to Paulo Nutini Iron Sky.such a powerful song and and Paulo has an amazing voice.best listened to with headphones you won't be disappointed!I've watched a few rappers react to it and they where blown away!❤
Sam Cooke was amazing. We lost him too soon, but what a legacy he left us. When I learned years ago about Sam Cooke being the first major influence on Steve Perry's desire to become a vocalist, I definitely could hear that influence in Steve's voice. I love this song along with everything else he did. This was a perfect song for today & a great reaction with a classy, respectful way of discussing some of the misleading imagery in the video. Thanks, BP. Pray today.🙏
Shame on them 😡 I remember how angry I was when the local girl scout troop wasn't allowed to celebrate Scout Sunday at the church I was forced...I mean the church I attended. The scouts were integrated, and the church wasn't. Not even for children!
I used to love this song and get weepy listening to it when I was young. I guess I naively thought the 'change' had come and that it would always stick. Now 40 years later, through the years, I realized you have to fight for change continuously. A lot of people do not want change and will try to set you back. So now when I hear the song I feel tired. Because yes a change will come, but you have to keeping fighting to keep it. It's exhausting sometimes. Yet I am still optimistic.
I'm only in my 30s and this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Growing up with this type of music was one of the things I can say my parents did right and will be grateful to them for if nothing else. Like India Arie says I am not my hair. I'm the soul that lives within. If you don't know the song, it's a good one.
We listened to Oldies radio stations and Motown as kids in the 80’s. We appreciated older music not just the popular music new to the day that we loved like Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, Rap, etc. We loved Classic Rock, Folk, etc.
Beautiful song !!!! We have had many changes in our country.. Thank you for talking positive about where we have been.. to where we are. In 1974 I married my high school sweetheart who was Mexican and I was white .. I was shocked how people were upset.. This doesn’t happen today.. ❤
Sam Cooke is SOOOO GOOD! Please do more. Him and Otis Redding are giants. Sam Cooke has so many good songs. "Cupid", "Another Saturday Night", "Chain Gang", "HAVING A PARTY". His voice is perfect. Smooth, but raspy, soulful to the extreme. One of his early songs with the Soul Stirrers "Jesus Gave Me Water" makes me cry 100% of the time. Stopping on the moment with Reagan and Gorbachev is striking - kids today don't understand the world that existed before the Wall fell.
Thank you for playing that song and reminding us that we are not fully where we need to be but we are sure where we used to be. I was born in 1964 and my parents in 1936 and 1939. They are both gone now but my Father served in the USAF for 36 years. He gave us a better life than we would ever would have in South Carolina. *not
My Mother marched for Civil Rights in Fort Worth, TX in 1964. I grew up from a very young age learning about the oppression and inequality of people of color. And how it needed to change. Things weren't right back then. I saw it. The most moving song ever about the struggles of black Americans for centuries. Thank you for sharing. Never go back.
Hairline moving backward is a fate that greets many of us. :) Great song. One of the best singers - ever. So smooth. Loved your reaction. Remembering is important for all us so we can measure where we have been and what still needs to be done. And, it's a message of love not hate. The best response to hate is love. And, this is a love song to the yearning in the human spirit for justice and freedom.
Sam Cooke is the G.O.A.T. of soul singers IMHO. His voice just cuts straight through to the heart. His runs are never over done, and enhance the lyrics in such a tasteful way. Modern singers, and songwriters should study Sam's music. There's a lot all musicians can learn from him!
Great song to play on election day! When I was 12, we lived in Dayton, Ohio. My Mom wanted her Episcopalian church ladies to go help pack boxes for the freedom riders at Gospel church downtown. They said no. She went by herself. Later, she took my younger brother and me to hear Dr. King at the same church. Such a powerful memory. Power to the people!
Love Sam Cooke’s sweet voice. He was a classic artist & will be remembered forever if people like you keep his music alive and introduce new generations.
You are absolutely correct with your stance. I did a video on this song 15 years ago, yet it sadly got deleted 😢 Awesome musician and tragic death. RIP Sam Cooke !
Change is always coming, my friend. I pray that more and more people receive more rights, as long as their rights don't infringe on the rights of others. And, if you don't mind me saying it, you look great with or without hair or a cap. If you're going to host a channel, own (or accept) your looks.
There will never, ever be another Sam Cooke. His voice was otherworldly. If you get a chance, please listen to Lost & Looking. It's astounding. His whole repertoire is incredible. Sad that he died so young.
Sam Cooke had a fabulous voice, and the song has had a powerful message since this old lady was a young girl. I'd just like to say showing images of history doesn't always mean it's propaganda. It's history, right or wrong, and there are usually multiple perspectives to any issue. Years ago, I heard something that has stuck with me ever since: There are only two constants in this life...God and Change. Peace.
BP, I am a child of the 60’s and can remember my dad, a volunteer fire fighter, responding to cross burnings on several occasions. He always came home shaking his head and being saddened by the hatred he saw. I am white, but I can NEVER remember hearing my dad saying anything racist. Beautiful song and heartfelt lyrics. Thanks for sharing again.
This song is one of the most important songs ever recorded and it’s so hard to believe that we have arguably regressed as a nation. So many of us who have spent a lifetime (for me over 45 years) fighting for change and believing it would indeed come are in tears over what we have become as a nation. I’m not sure we will ever recover. I certainly hope so. 🙏
Oh my goodness this song right here is the ultimate tear jerker for me! Sam Cooke was an outstanding vocalist who died in such an awful way. This song was used in the movie Malcolm X by Spike Lee at such a hearbreaking moment.Great song reaction as always Black Pegasus!
I love everything you said! I would have been part of the Underground Railroad or sitting at the luncheonette counter with everyone! As a little white girl I got to play Harriet Tubman in the school play, and that made me so proud because she was and still is one of my heroes!
Love Sam Cooke's songs. Cupid, We're Having A Party, Another Saturday Night (and I ain't got nobody)...etc. Yes, the Arkansas couple you mentioned, are beyond evil. Love your reaction. Everything is true what you said. ❤
GODD BLESS YOU. The change that is happening now disrespects how hard previous generations worked for equality and unity. In many ways we are going backwards. However, I believe social media has skewed reality. We only see the pockets of bad. We never see how the majority of hard working ordinary American neighborhoods get along. We need to get rid of social media. NO OFFENSE.
BP. You should check out Jimmy Barnes' cover of A change is gonna come. Jimmy is Australia's Rock and Soul GOAT with over 50 years of hits, both solo and with the group Cold Chisel. ❤
Crazy beautiful B/P, right hand to GOD I was playing this for my 3yr old grandson yesterday 🙏🏼. I enjoyed having tattas until the ole C caught me & gave me an ultimatum...Love from an Italian,Irish nonna from Ireland 🇮🇪.We are Blessed 🙏🏼..
Dude metal head and country boy here, love opera but R and B to Me will always have its Gold Standard. Sam Cooke, Ottis Redding. Such a golden voice!!!

Agreed. Real voices and instruments make a difference.
I’m a white Australian but this song always makes me cry… so many still waiting for change that is long overdue
I feel the same way. This was my dear departed husband's favorite song. Still gets me tearful. Peace and love to you and your loved ones. Stay strong in faith. ❤️
@ thanks, and this is bizarre but I’m a Henderson too! Wishing you all the best 🥰
white American here, and that's how it makes me feel. The Band does an amazing cover of this song, but nobody does it like Sam.
Fellow white Australian here. You're not alone in your feelings here.❤
Absolute classic. One of the songs that made a change for the better in the world. Gives me goosebumps too ❤️
I love that you played this song. It is so true times have changed, good and bad. I remember the 70's.
Every time I hear this song I'm coverd in goosebumps and all choked up. Unbelievable song
He was an incredible artist. He inspired so many.
Great song great singer! It leaves me speechless which is saying something!🙏🏼❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Sam Cooke has a lot of great hits. I love his voice.❤️
Sam Cooke had such a beautiful voice. Range and power and a touch of smooth gravel. Like buttered pebbles.
This is such a classic! This is the type of music I listen to on a daily basis, my kids too! They just don’t make music like this no more unfortunately! 💯❤️
All generations can stop and reflect on this amazing song. Every single one of us can always dig down and make a better day! ❤️
there is just something about the music from that era that just makes it timeless.
Been listening to this since I was a teenager. I love Sam Cooke’s music.

Such a wonderful song by a great artist. Thank you🔥❤️
Our senior HS choir sang this for a state competition in TN back in the late 70's. We were disqualified for "reactionary content".
My thumbs up is for your commenting not because your choir was disqualified. You should still be proud for trying.
Shame on them 😡
I remember how angry I was when the local girl scout troop wasn't allowed to celebrate Scout Sunday at the church I was forced...I mean the church I attended.
The scouts were integrated, and the church wasn't.
Not even for children!
Great Great Song❤️
Wow. That’s sad.
Oh, wow. That's horrible. God bless you all for singing it.
I used to love this song and get weepy listening to it when I was young. I guess I naively thought the 'change' had come and that it would always stick. Evil will always try to kill the change, that is why we must never stop fighting for the change to always be there for us and our future generations.
Arron Neville did a great cover off this song also
YES A CHANGE is coming and it has to be for the BETTER of Humanity
It's still coming. Not here yet, but on it's way, I hope.
MAGA BABY
I'm only in my 30s and this is one of my all-time favorite songs. Growing up with this type of music was one of the things I can say my parents did right and will be grateful to them for if nothing else.

Incredible voice....one of the greatest voices ever. It has everything. Yes your right..times are a changing . It's music that unites as well as Love
Thank you for playing that song and reminding us that we are not fully where we need to be but we are sure where we used to be. I was born in 1964 and my parents in 1936 and 1939. I aws a sophomore in high school when Sam Cooke released this song. It holds many memories.
We will be now, you can count on it. The racists came out of the woodwork with the first Trump election so we haven’t come as far as you’d think. 🤷♀️
Hairline moving backward is a fate that greets many of us. :) Great song. One of the best singers - ever. So smooth. Loved your reaction. He’s awesome, I love Nat King Cole too.
Sam Cook a kind and loving man. He took kindly to a bunch of kids that sat outside of a club and came out and sang for us.
This just speaks to my soul.
To have Sam Cooke put you back in a great mood, listen to him sing You Send Me, works every time💖
Without a doubt in my book one of the greatest songs of all time by one of the greatest voices of all time.
Great song to play on election day! When I was 12, we lived in Dayton, Ohio. My Mom wanted her Episcopalian church ladies to go help pack boxes for the freedom riders at Gospel church downtown. Yet maga wants to go back 60 years. Funny he doesn't see it.
One of my all time favorite songs ever !!
Sam Cooke was such a treasure. Sorely missed.
My favorite childhood song ❤. I felt this deep in my heart. ❤ Still do. I was there on the third street bridge in Dayton Ohio. ❤🇺🇸
Absolutely love your videos - love your vibe - love your message - keep being amazing!
He wrote this after hearing Bob Dylan’s Blowing In the Wind. It was his first attempt at song writing. It was also not before he was killed I believe
Let’s go! Sam Cooke is a class act! He lifts my soul!🎤🎼😍
I love Sam Cooke so much! 🥰 U should do some Temptations!
Al Green did an absolutely amazing performance of this song!! I believe it was a part of The Concert of the Century. Worth checking out!!❤❤
Love Sam Cooke’s sweet voice. He was a classic artist & will be remembered forever if people like you keep his music alive and introduce new generations.
The great Sam Cooke ❤❤❤
You are absolutely correct with your stance. I did a video on this song 15 years ago, yet it sadly got deleted 😢 Awesome musician and tragic death. RIP Sam Cooke !
This song always brings me to tears. My mom's favorite, much-played, Sam Cooke song. Great reaction, BP, and a bonus that you sang along. 🙏
I don't think I've ever heard this, fantastic song
can't help it, gotta cry every time i hear this
A true classic - what a voice, what emotion!

one of the best songs ever. and best voices
There was no progressive propaganda in this video! Every image shown is directly related to the lyrics of the song and re flect Sam Cooke's vision.
I love his voice and how he inspired others. ❤
My bruddah’s my sista’s! Love all of you!
Deeply moving. Thank you!❤
This man could sing 🙏🏻🤛🏻🇬🇧👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
another song that brings me to tears is ( Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World 1967 )
I couldn't get to this reaction fast enough. This guy was amazing.
Yeah reagonomics started our deficit problems. I bought into it back in the 80s. Boy was I wrong

The R & B that moved me when I was young. Sam Cooke was one of a kind. Great choice. ✌️❤️🎶
The very best song❤❤❤❤❤❤ breaks my heart
Respect young man. ❤
I love everything you said! I would have been part of the Underground Railroad or sitting at the luncheonette counter with everyone! As a little white girl I got to play Harriet Tubman in the school play, and that made me so proud because she was and still is one of my heroes!
A fantastic cover of this incredible song is done by Los Coast featuring Gary Clark, Jr.
May all our changes come soon. Love to all. ❤️
Absolutely love this song. My all time favorite. Sing it!!
I have always loved this song!
My 25 yr old son loves this song and has it on his playlist. He also loves James Brown.
Love Sam Cooke's songs. Cupid, We're Having A Party, Another Saturday Night (and I ain't got nobody)...etc. Yes, the Arkansas couple you mentioned, are beyond evil. Love your reaction. Everything is true what you said. ❤
Its just AMAZING beautiful song and thoughts
I love this song so much ❤
Aretha Franklin's cover when she was in her 20s is fantastic, too.
Sam Cooke, you were gone too soon 🌠
We're going to have to wait a bit more for that change.
Still a fav! Always be a great song! ❤
There’s a video from one of Steve Perry’s solo concerts where he sings Cupid from Sam Cooke. It’s amazing!
I’m an old white lady and I cry every time I hear it.
Just for fun you should check out Adam Lambert's tribute to Sam Cooke when he performed this song as a contestant on American Idol. Incredible!
He is my favorite soul, r&b performer along with Marvin gaye..❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well done BP! Great choice!
I honestly don’t know how you haven’t reacted to Al Green yet. The GOAT
This is my favorite song EVER!!!!
San Cooke was a joy bringer!!!
I can't hear this song without thinking of the 1992 film "Malcolm X"
Dude metal head and country boy here, love opera but R and B to Me will always have its Gold Standard. Sam Cooke, Ottis Redding. Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, Al Green The Commadores, Peaches and herb, and Blue eyed soul The Righteous Brothers, Hall and Oates, Aretha Franklin, there is no better. She did not have to use overplayed runs and was just so damn heart felt nearly spiritual. Add to that Janis Joplin, and let us never forget The Drifters and if I am truly speaking of Soul cannot leave out Doby Gray, No one carried a more beautiful set of pipes than Roberta Flack, she gets so little attention. But the song that plucks my heart string is a christian composer, Talke me back from Andre Crouch a real true genious who could get you into a Godfearing meditiative mindset of prayer and hope for a world that hates us all. Ephesians 6:12. Dusty Springfield the son of a preacher man.
I loved motown but the lack of real struggle being talked about and more pop sensitivity is why I never mentioned more greats, I love folk and for the same reason and the absence of major minor keys and lack of true blues structures in the scales both pentatonic and major minor is why I do not list them here.
I love this song, it give me goosebumps and does create a truly emotive response. Ty for reacting to it.
Would love to hear you react to Three Dog Nights, cover of Ottis Reddings Try a Little Tenderness.
I loved Sam Cook
Great comments about the song and the singer.
Sam Cook was Steve Perry from Journey inspiration.
I was stationed in Germany when the wall fell. Still have several pieces of it.
An incredible classic. Simply.
There’s propaganda in *every* movement.
I want humanity to reduce the pain in the world.
