MOPAR 360 Rebuild Part 1

- I'm going to rebuild this MOPAR 360 and put in my 73 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. The MOPAR 318 is tired and broke. It broke a timing chain gear and time to upgrade.

A genuine "see that? Right there? That's the problem" moment
You don't know how good that crank is until you measure with a micrometer for taper buddy
Was there ever a part 2 to this video? Super informative and interested to see the rest of the rebuild
There will be. I had a few health issues, got me behind. I'm hoping after holidays I'll get part 2 done. I apologize for the delay.
I know how those health issues can really throw a wrench in our plans so I hope you're doing well & get this build going for both of our sakes. I wish I could stumble across a cheap 360 LA like that for my '81 W250 that has a rather clapped out, but still fighting 360 la, but would just like a fresh & hotter engine so I can really rely upon that work horse.
Mike, sad some people don't change oil and filter. Unless your building a rocket you don't need a big camshaft. Big cams are overrated for street cars.
Looking forward to more on this rebuild. I’ve got a 74 360 LA motor out of a Dodge Sno-fighter sitting on an engine stand waiting for its rebuild…
probably has 974 heads. they still retain the larger 340 port but use smaller valves. open it up for 2.02s and do some bowl and blend work. should flow around 230-240cfm. plenty enough for decent torque and power in a street 360.
Dirt is from running K&N or similar air filter.
The E58 (police) 360 had a number of HP components, including the 2.02 valves and 340 cam. The E58 was the ultimate LA engine, for sure.
The police E58 360 wasn't actually used in pickups, except for the LRT. Most pickups used the E56 4bbl or the common E57 2bbl.
The E58 replaced the 340 in 1974, was was discontinued in early 1980. The E48 318 4bbl police was introduced in 1978, and replaced the E58 that March, when production of the 360 moved from Windsor to Saltillo. The E48 shared all of the E58's HP components, including the 587 heads. In 1983, Chrysler began using the 345 head on the E48, which is similar to the 587 head, except that they have larger coolant passages. The E48 was replaced on 1984 with the similar ELE 318 4bbl police engine, that lasted through 1989 with the M-body squads.
My guess is you have an E56 engine, which is fine, but it's not an HP or Severe Duty version. Building an E56 to E58 specs should still be doable, but the key thing is that the police engines were set up for maximum durability and reliability, not maximum power. The .429/.444 cam from the 340 was used in the E58, as were the 2.02 valves. Allpar has all the specs.
Nylon teething on a timing gear 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Im looking at adding more power for my Dodge B250 with a 360LA to have better time climbing on the hills and travelling at highway speeds, any advice on what modifications? Reliability is the only other thing that matters to me. Any input appreciated, thanks !
The secret to any engine for gaining extra power is to improve It's ability to breathe.. A camshaft upgrade, better carburatipn and a good exhaust are all easy and cheap modifications to increase power.
Had the same thing happen with my 73 Road Runner 318 nylon tooth timing gear.
It was a terrible design. Surely they had to know this would happen
Coolant exhaust valve
Prob cracked head between exhaust and intake seat
Nope. I did magnetic particle exam. No cracks.
Me gustaría un vídeo informativo de cómo poner en tiempo un motor 360 Dodge
360 Mopar engines never came with 202 valves from the factory ever the motor didn't even show up till 1971 and then it was just a two-barrel motorbike
Put a 360 in it.
Carbon is from the wrong shitty fuel lol + very low compression. Alcohol and high compression burn very clean
at 9:43 I stopped watching to input this Im betting that its a 509 purple shaft cam, why? just because everybody used that cam back in the day.
If a .509 cam-the girlfriend won't be driving it and no vacuum for AC and power brakes.
@@MyronBuss interesting, I ran a 509 in a 318 with 360 heads it functioned the power brakes, and it didnt have ac.
360 never came with 202 valves some 340 is even came with 188 are 187 + 360 is never came with 202 valves 1 160 exhaust and soda 340
@wintonwright4244 Yes I mentioned it in a later comment. I was misinformed. However it does have 2.02 valves so someone paid to open them up.
NO 2.02 valves in any 360!!!
You are correct. I was misinformed. These are the stock '75 heads that someone did rework and put 2.02 valves in.
