Great video, and glad to see Kamtec get the recognition they deserve! They are huge supplier of bodies for the RC oval racing scene, mainly the banger racing (which use ABS shells as its contact racing, and also the reason for the Nimahs!), who have delved into the kit scene alongside mardave and schumacer. Most of their kits use the same main parts so you can race numerous classes with a simple tool box of spares, and tyres! CANNOT be beaten on price !! And also top marks on the decals work turned out well! They dont supply decals as nobody runs them, everyone uses their own schemes, and I (amongst others) supply personal vinyl sticker sets to suit the various shells!! Great review
Been involved with Kamtec for over 10 years and raced in most formulas, the idear is to keep the cost down to appeal to everyone. The kits are bulletproof and easy to repair track side between heats on a budget.you find oval clubs all over the UK where everyone is welcome.
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Mario Jagger Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great video. Built and raced these oval cars for 30 years. Cheap to build and maintain and great fun to race. Kamtec are a brilliant company as well. Oh thats my car on the front of the box 😉👍🏁
The best part of this episode is that you show that we don’t need to go with “box art” all the time. Your end result for this car looks great with the bits and parts you had around. Well done 👍
Kamtec are a fantastic company that's often overlooked in favour of more famous manufacturers, but hands down they cannot be beaten for value for money. A place to start racing. I've been racing them for 15 years and never had any problems
This kit is designed to race either as a classic hot rod or National Hot Rod. The Classic run 4 cell Nimh batteries running 540 sealed can motors (only certain motors alllowed. Or you can run 17.5T Brushless in the Classics which is becoming more popular The National hot rod run 13.5 Brushless with single cell lipos. You are not allowed to drill extra holes in the chassis. These cars are desinged to be run indoors only on carpet on ovals. They are very very quick and take some getting used to. But provide excellent racing. I can recommend HOTs Racers in Haywards Heath as one of the leading clubs in the South East. who also support Kamtec who are an excellent company who keep this sport alive despite all that is happening in the world
This company might singlehandedly rejuvenate rc racing in the U.K. with this great kit!! At that price I’d race it In a car park with a few like minded fellows.
The class this is designed to race in mainly 1/12th oval carpet racing had a maximum price for the kit price set by the Brca as to keep it affordable to start rc racing and the rules also don't allow difs to be fitted and stock motors only running on 4 cells different classes eg salons, minies and bangers all generally have the same build rules having raced bangers and stock cars it's cheap as chips to race for an evening running multiple classes at the same meeting plus the old 6 cell saloon class was mental with a full field on a small oval
and yeah, most of these regarding decals would be scratch built including the wing like you did, i liked this video as i raced on the ovals for years so its tick all my boxes, Good vid Gavin
Almost all the cars use the same batteries (4 cell) that are on offer at Kamtec which sit perfectly in the battery holder, with the exception to the 2ltr stock cars which run (6 cell). All cars are built and use identical parts/ electrics to make the racing as even as possible. From my knowledge no parts are 3D printed and take an absolute pounding most meetings. When we started our first lockdown I built 2 brand new bangers for when we resume, also having quite a large spares package I'm currently building a 2ft limousine chassis! With a little knowledge you could build these kits in no time 👌🏼
That was a cool Video to watch and what a cool RC car for the price.. for that price I think I am going to see if they will post one to Canada.. I know of this company from living on the south coast of the UK most of my life and its good to know they are still going strong
Thanks for reviewing this! I've been taken with these Kamtec and Mardave kits for a while. I'm a big fan of full sized UK stock car racing, but not keen on the idea of driving an RC around in circles - cus who's got a carpeted sports hall free at the moment? So it'd be great to see how it performs as a road based basher! Fantastic range of body shells for these as well. Austin a40's, Escort vans, and all sorts of weird and wonderful shells to play around with. Thanks Gavin!
@@keithdowsett8685 I think I was thinking too much like a "basher builder, and collector" of RC cars. I hadn't fully considered that Kamtec hotrods are proper race cars in their own right. They're built for indoor racing - that's what they're meant to do. Nonetheless, I'd love to see a Kamtec 1/12 capable of carrying a six cell, and with rubber tyres to chuck around a smooth flat car park or similar. I wouldn't expect it to perform as well as a more general non racing chassis, but it'd be alot of fun. You guys at Kamtec have got such a great collection of 1/12th shells. It's potentially an RC hobbyists dream, but a slightly different proposition to the wants of a club racer. A tarmac capable Kamtec would make a great platform for folk, like me, who get as much fun building and admiring the cars as we do chucking them around - at a significantly smaller cost than, say, a Tamiya. Bought one, arrived today. Best hour n half I’ve spent in a while. Lovely kit. I had a mardave mini back in the day and this I know is going to spin all over the place with a silver can and a small lipo 😂
I have been on their website & they do small oval races at the likes of Brentwood so that's not to far away from me, I may go down in the summer & have a look at them racing,😀😀😀
Left a comment on a previous video asking for some 1/12 coverage and suddenly here it is. I have a loft full of old 1/10;RC cars and electronics going to waste as vehicles eventually stopped working and rising running costs drove me away from the hobby. Recently looked at both mardave and kamtec as low cost routes back into the hobby. Bought a mardave car this week, the be with rubber tires, and wascamazedvehen it arrived 80 percent built and with a motor and pinion fitted which wasn't in the spec featured on the website. Having seen this video today kamtec may be getting an order soon too as I have been looking at exactly this kit and bodysheii. These companies really do seem to be excellent value if you can work past poor instructions. As usual great, informative video. Would again like to see even more mardave/ kamtec coverage
Sorry above should say vw not be but caught out by autocorrect. Also the supercallifragilistic bit should say , and was amazed, don't know what phone was doing!
Also Gavin, these type of cars that goes around the ovals, generally have a locked diff or in the case of the Hot Rods in real life they have limited Slip, but as they cover Bangers, stock cars and F2 in real life they are either locked or open diffs, guess for cost they have gone the solid axle route (locked)
Typing as i am watching, most of the weight on these cars should be on the inside, these Hot Rods race in a clockwise direction so if you were planning to join a club and race then keeping the weight on the inside of the car would aid with the cornering
