Rich is such a good guy. I met him at mandarins auditions back in 2018 when I was auditioning for bass. Him and Vanessa are fricken awesome techs/people.
This content is so nostalgic for me to watch. I've auditioned for groups like ID, Caballeros and Bush and just being a listening ear for these techs and teaching methods wether I'm there or watching it on a video fills me with joy and nostalgia. Can't wait for the 2021 season!
@@G-0 It's really not that much different than the right hand. Just think from the fulcrum (which is under the first and thumb on your left) then start with triplets and ad the accents like they did on the right hand. If you can make the motion fluid, and sound like the right, you got it! You only need to know "proper" moller if you march a group that heavily uses it. But they will define that technique.
This makes me happy that I’m showing others my playing and getting criticism BEFORE I even start work towards an audition so I can instead be judged on higher level rather than being taught technique at a world class audition, no offense to the snares, I’m sure they’ve worked hard 😊
What’s the difference between people playing in the line and people sitting playing on the practice pads?? Great video btw, as I always say, love this series 👍👍
Gooster X The people on pads are staying warmed up, so when asked to switch to the drum they will be ready to play. They do that all the time during the audition process. That way the instructors can figure out who fit well together in the line. I hope this makes sense.
These videos from last year were all made available to subscribers shortly after they were filmed on FloMarching.com. Still lots there that isn't on UA-cam!
@@FloMarching keep it get some clickbait going but it will still help people either way you do it because it gives advice that could help the future drummers over quarantine
I always thought Moller was repeating bounces in a continuous way. So you’re stripping 2/3/4s together into even singles. This is more just playing singles with accents.
Probably a corps preference thing. Blue devils pretty consistently do the right foot stomp. Maybe since its an audition camp they just havent talked about it and theyre nervous 🤷♂️
Yeah i don't think they talked about marking time since it's only auditions. Different programs have different styles so it wouldn't make sense to make someone change their feet drastically unless they make it
Some stuff he explains I feel you just do naturally. Like in the beginning when he's explaining how to play accents, the elbow/arm/wrist motion "transferring energy to the tip of the stick"/etc., it seems like that's just how you would naturally play accents, like it takes effort for me to imagine how you WOULDN'T do this. Any other way of doing it would feel UN-natural. Maybe I underestimate how bad some people's form can be
That's a really toxic way of thinking about it. Believe it or not there's a lot more styles than what the Mandarins play. You'd be surprised when you take a look at rope drum lines like the Old Guard who grip in the back of the stick and keep the hand closed, a much different way of thinking about it than this. It's not bad form, it's a change of style.
Whose version of "natural" would the line go off of, then? People have different finger dexterities, finger lengths, finger strength, finger flexibility, hand size, hand strength, wrist strength, wrist flexibility, arm lengths, arm flexibility, different degrees of comfort in regards to tension they hold in any number of the joints or muscles in the arm (let alone the rest of their bodies), different degrees of self-awareness of what they are doing intentionally or unintentionally, etc., etc., etc. It's not a matter of making value judgments on the merits of someone's form; a lot of DCI (with some exceptions) are about uniformity of approach to technique, regardless of value.
CEO of making sense
myles Ragas “does that make sense” x20
5:54 "is that a split or what? You playing bass drum?"
well if this ain't audition anxiety in a nutshell
Please post more content like this, very useful for someone trying to understand the audition process
Hairy Harry you’ve never been to an audition?
Dm me if you need advice
@@alexwilson2268 I went to a one day audition camp in Philly for the Boston Crusaders, but I have not been to a full weekend audition camp
Hairy Harry ok well I’m down to help if needed..I never got cut in any dci wgi audition process
kollizions ttv Would love some advice!
These are just my favorite vids on UA-cam for sure! Love the explanation while drumming! It’s like being at the camp/rehearsal

i don’t watch mic’d up that much but these videos are soooo useful for almost anyone in this sport, teachers and students alike!

I’m sad you didn’t include the left hand breakdown :(
I'm sure they have more that you can find on their website, downside is you have to pay for it.
Literally so annoyed because no video I have found clearly explains left hand moeller technique properly :(

What an absolute badass. Glad to see age outs keep pursuing music
Awww man I was waiting on the left hand. 🤣🤣
You don’t get a good left hand for free 💀💀
Vinny Powell 🤣🤣🤣
Interesting/useful to see/hear messy pre-season notes. People who watch DCI all the time take for granted what a clean line sounds like.
lol no hi mom shot at 5:27
omg hi snare man
@@alexwang05 👀
I love these vids. Hope we can all be together for the marching arts real soon.
Good vid - thought he kept saying Aiden you're in and this poor kid Aiden had to like hop on a drum unexpectedly instead of 8 and you're in
yeah dad!
Damien Masterson lol
Yooo its david!!!!!!!!
Nooooooo!!!! EXPLAIN THE LEFT HAND BREAK DOWN!!!!!!! THAT WAS SO EVIL

I need the left hand version

Zeke Bear yup, makes sense! Thanks!
Why are y’all just now posting all these awesome behind the scenes videos from last season? We’re y’all just saving them for a rainy day?? Lmao
kollizions ttv they're a subscription service, this came out for people who were paying for it early.

where can i watch the full video?
Wow. Rich really does teach drum corps just like his high schools. Ngl kinda weird to see
Chaoticx0rd3r it works tho
Why wouldn’t you add the left hand breakdown
was this filmed in arcadia high school?
Yep! We had a connection through a brass staff member for November camp
Fuck man, I knew that background building looked familiar. 9 years later and J building looks exactly the same lol.
let’s go rich
How you gonna put dci 2020 in the thumbnail even though that isn’t happening

Really nice video, but dude in the red shorts makes it hard to focus on the actual content lmao
The guy with the visor and the orange sunglasses is annoying! What is his name?

Anyone else notice they are barely marking time? They’re basically just moving their knees.
