I love that you get things done on your channel more than you talk about getting things done on your channel. You keep a good flow and explain as you move along
I think I just figured out what the round plate is on the front bumper. Is there three holes in it? In the shape of a triangle? Place a American Signal Company 4 beam beacon on it. Amber in color. You said this was a bomb towing truck, and it clicked. It’s for the warning light while towing bombs. We called them bubble gum lights in the old fire trucks. Also, I’m sure this rig would also be used as a tug, possibly towing aircraft. The warning light on top of the cab might make it too tall going under the wings of the bomber aircraft. It would make sense to place it on the front bumper out of the view of the cab. If I’m wrong…. It was a damn good guess.
The guage panel insert you have is the proper military one so you might have a original ww2 cab from some other chevy or gmc military truck from ww2. Some one might have just found the military guage panel insert they used as well but a lot of work unless you had it laying around and the original was destroyed. If it has military data plates on the dashboard or glove box it's almost certainly from some other military truck. Please keep the grill, it really does protect all the lights and radiator and it's original to the truck no matter what the cab came from. That was a air force truck and they used to be blue. I don't know if they were blue in the war but they were later so it may have been in service long enough to get a repaint. That extra light is the black out drive light and you can see the slot in the front glass to pop into the metal plate with the hood that made the light only put light down so you couldn't be seen from the air. The Germans used a really over engineered one on their vehicles. I found a much newer blackout light on a Vietnam era road grader I put on my 41 Power Wagon. Other than it being 24 volts it was pretty much identical to the old 6 volt one it should have had.
Yikes. I realized I confused the blackout lights with the convoy light. The little lights are the blackout lights. The one light on the driver side should have a shade and be the convoy light that shines on the white stripe.
I really enjoyed hearing that old fashioned transmission whine as you went through the gears. We had a dump version of that type of truck at the factory where I worked. An old Korean war veteran army surplus dodge power wagon. Fantastic truck
When I was a kid we had one of these military chevys on our farm (1941 I think) it was a ton of fun. I learned to drive in it as a 12 year old. Dad would say, "go get some firewood", so I would jump in the beast and go knock a tree down and drag it back to the house 🤣
That camera vibration and the rattling reminded me of the old WWII B-17 bomber movies all shot to hell by flak yoke jumping back and forth trying to make it back to the White Cliffs of Dover.
I love this truck. Thanks for metering those lights, putting the orices on, I will be checking out their catalog. Real info, practical mechanics and plenty of laughs. Thanks !
Hiya bud, well Its all looking great so far, so thank you for sharing with us all. That hidden blue paint, left me wondering If It was ever Royal Airforce Blue, perhaps being stationed In Canada at some point> but stranger things are found eh... As the old leaf suspension springs have years of dirt and rust in them limiting their ability to slide over each other reminded me of some years ago, I used to service an old Landrover, its leaf springs were so rusted and dirt filled they were like welded together, so the time consuming of taking them off the truck, jet washing them to the death between each leaf spring, dried them with compressed air, used a slim metal wedge to open the gap one leaf a time, greased in between the leaf springs, then wrapped the entire leaf spring in hessian sacking, heavily greased held on with baling wire, refitted back to the truck, made it ride like a new truck again..No more bouncing down the road..Anyway, thanks for the video, Ian. UK.
Also, I need to find the same sheer dedication of "follow thru" that you exhibit on all of your projects! You make it seem so effortless!! 1) Need 2) Buy 3) Remove the old... 4) Replace with new! And all in the span of 30 seconds viewing time. As my boss always says......"Pitter patter, let's get at 'er!"
I liked how you went about refixing the signal lights, you are so smart with this stuff thanks for all the handy ideas. I also agree with everyone else, the grill on is the way to go.
Have you considered putting electric assist steering from a 2009-2013 Toyota Corolla in this truck? It is a very overpowered unit for its application and worked great on my '47 Willys pickup. The woods are full of them so you should be able to find one cheap in a junk yard near you. Mine cost me $75.00.
The videos just keep getting better and better. Feels like im wrenching with my grandpa; when a problem is encountered just dig through the junk pile lol
What a beast & she's come a long way .. Sure like all those aftermarket add ons I bet it's a booger to steer..we sure love these old military vehicles and appreciate your talent in bringing them back to life!.. looking forward to seeing more of your work and thanks for sharing
I love this truck! I’ve always wanted to try to put duals on the front of a dually and was always told it won’t steer right or well. I need to start looking for some spare wheels!
I really like this old truck. It reminds me of one of my Grandfather's trucks that he taught me how to drive in. It was a 53 Ford, but it sounded a lot like it anyway. You even shift like he did. Thanks for the video and thanks for the memories!
Excellent video Low Buck Garage :) also super on brake booster, headlights, turning signals, , blacklights, cab interior seat plus light, back up cab light to and switches cluster plus front windshield adjustable! Also fan in rad so cool and hope fix dash cluster for gauges soon too ! Also cool truck for sure and like how work out too for also more repairs videos in future too watch! Also one head light how did angle tilt of is Half moon of peice metal very thin like pop can metal was over trim plus ring on screw in top part from 9:00 to 12:00 to 3:00 clock ⏰ be also from 9:00 to 6:00 to 3:00 open plus ☹ smile top part 9:00 to 12:00 to 3:00 had beak like Baseball cap ! If saw headlights cover on clear glass of 1950 Headlights half cover know talking about they said early stages of fog lights and glare from higher beam too when drove past old Ford, Mercury and lots 1940 to 1960 cars or trucks would be hard on eyes!
The little light you were turning into turnsignals were part of a blackout light system for night driving lights to help the enemy not detect you while driving at night. I have enjoyed all of your videos I've seen so far and has inspired me to bring some life into some old vehicles where I live
It's the dual front tires that is making it hard to steer (other than just being an old mule anyway). I number of trucks in the past were built with that as an option for really bad conditions and they all had the same issue. But it looks GREAT!!
I vote for putting the grille back on. It goes with the looks of the truck and helps support those big flappy fenders, plus if it's on the truck it can't get lost. My bad was typing this just as you put the grille back on!
Love that truck, Great job. Glad you put the grill on and I think it looks good painted brown. The hard steering might be caused somewhat by the dual tires on the front.
It worked good on its maiden voyage. all the lights worked perfectly, and the engine sounds good and the brakes worked very well. I would guess that transmission is not synchronized? and it would ride a little better with some new tires. watch out it might turn into a daily driver. that windshield should be reasonably priced being flat glass. but installing it into that frame might be a little bit of a challenge. and some gauge's and it would a finished product.
Back in the mid 70s, I saw a truck, from what I remember, just like that one at a desert motorcycle race at Gila Bend, Arizona. The one and only time I have seen duals, front and rear. I bet double clutching when shifting would make shifts tons smoother.
I think you may have the indicator wiring for those accessories switches backwards. I would imagine that the light behind the legend supposed to be lit all the time and then the bar underneath should come on when the switch is on
I love your projects LBG, please don't stop, you're keeping an old fella entertained.
LBG for the win!
Young fellas too!
The LED signal lights turned out extremely nice! The whole truck is oozing with coolness!
I'm going to absolutely steal that idea for my old WIlly's jeep convoy lights!
I love that you get things done on your channel more than you talk about getting things done on your channel. You keep a good flow and explain as you move along
He does chat.
You crack me up. Your dry humor makes your videos.
I appreciate the bonus bit at the end of each video. Like finding an extra French fry.

This was probably the best video I’ve ever seen of someone rigging a vehicle to work with the embodiment of “eyy it’s good enough”
The guage panel insert you have is the proper military one so you might have a original ww2 cab from some other chevy or gmc military truck from ww2. The bucket seat joke at 1:20 was hilarious thank you
7:48 I believe those are convoy lights or blackout lights. They are used to limit the vehicles visibility when traveling at night or in a convoy.
Yup. There would be some white paint on the rear axle of the vehicle in front of you. You kept the light trained on the white stripe.
Yikes. I realized I confused the blackout lights with the convoy light. The little lights are the blackout lights. The one light on the driver side should have a shade and be the convoy light that shines on the white stripe.
Your projects are awesome! Love your attitude!
The 3 led's in the light with the turn signal sure worked out slick. Great idea.
That thing is just *too cool* James! 😁👍 Nice job! I enjoyed the video very much. Happy wrenching 🔧🔩
I really enjoyed hearing that old fashioned transmission whine as you went through the gears. We had a dump version of that type of truck at the factory where I worked. An old Korean war veteran army surplus dodge power wagon. Fantastic truck

In the mid 60s I was working for the conservation department of a midwestern state. We procured a surplus Air Force truck.it was painted blue.
Thanks !

U.S. Airforce blue. After 1947 they painted it blue.
Also, I need to find the same sheer dedication of "follow thru" that you exhibit on all of your projects! You make it seem so effortless!!
1) Need
2) Buy

Sir, I am absolutely loving your videos. Please keep them coming!
Awesome! One day ol' truck will be as good as new. Like the halftracks.
15 seconds in and I already clicked the thumbs up!
Gotta love that gear whine !
Absolutely love your content keep it up
Nilight is a great company with excellent customer service. I use a lot of it.
The front duallys make this Tonka looking. I love it. The Oshkosh and this truck are awesome.
I liked how you went about refixing the signal lights, you are so smart with this stuff thanks for all the handy ideas.

Those lights are badass.
The videos just keep getting better and better. Feels like im wrenching with my grandpa; when a problem is encountered just dig through the junk pile lol

Sure like all those aftermarket add ons
I bet it's a booger to steer..we sure love these old military vehicles and appreciate your talent in bringing them back to life!.. looking forward to seeing more of your work and thanks for sharing
You’re on the road to be prop master for an upcoming Mad Max remake!
I like that you are not scared to tear things apart! Most people would run from some of your projects yet you make them work. Brilliant!
Your channel is pure gold, love the humor and laid-back attitude.
I definitely like the grille on the color is just right too.
Reminds me of A mad max vehicle. Awesome work man and one good looking truck.
I love this truck! I’ve always wanted to try to put duals on the front of a dually and was always told it won’t steer right or well. I need to start looking for some spare wheels!
you lose some turn radius but it would steer fine. And its good for not sinking up in the front. trucks like this were used as skidders in my area
There will always be nay sayers. Go for it...then you'll know for sure.
Wow...how could it get any better?!!...miles of smiles....😍
Reminds me of my dad's dodge D100..6 cylinder..3 on the tree..manual steering ..
😎👍😎
I really like this old truck. It reminds me of one of my Grandfather's trucks that he taught me how to drive in. It was a 53 Ford, but it sounded a lot like it anyway. You even shift like he did. Thanks for the video and thanks for the memories!
Beautiful, James. Adopted your teachings for cleaning/reinstalling the ignition switch on the Oliver 880. Thanks.
That truck is cool. I’m glad you’re bringing it back

Im subscribing just to see more of this truck
The light unit is called a sealed bulb unit. Technology Connections did a video on them.
I absolutely love they way your brain works!
It perfectly matches mine( which is kind of scary when you think about it).
👍👍❤️
LBG.
That's a awesome cool styled beast. The body shape, exhaust stack etc.. Nice job getting it running, driving so fast.
Enjoyed the video, Boe
I would recommend side marker lights on your fenders or bumper. . . It will give a better impression on the road to the size of the 🚚 truck.
Man I love that old truck.. keep up great work..
Great work on the lighting and getting it on the road again….
I REALLY like what you've done with this old truck !!!
I love that truck, hope you keep fixing it over the next year and sharing the progress
I got tired of watching VGG...
So I found your channel and I'm truly enjoying your projects and humor...!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Nice video. Definitely dont see any front dual trucks like this
It seems so convenient to drive !!
Absolutely love it!
It's blue because it was in the airforce in the 50s, WW2 it would be OD.
Looks good with the grille on👍
The little light you were turning into turnsignals were part of a blackout light system for night driving lights to help the enemy not detect you while driving at night. I have enjoyed all of your videos I've seen so far and has inspired me to bring some life into some old vehicles where I live
This is one of my favorite trucks to watch on YT. Thanks LBG.
It's the dual front tires that is making it hard to steer (other than just being an old mule anyway). I number of trucks in the past were built with that as an option for really bad conditions and they all had the same issue. But it looks GREAT!!
that's a taking the wife out to a fancy restaurant rig if I've ever seen one😉
Great content on old iron , we love the old trucks with new life!!
Wow! Looks like fun to me. Love your channel. Best wishes.
That truck is the Bomb…
Oh man. I love this project. So glad to see it driving! I wouldn't mind that truck haha
that blue is definitely a navy color... aye aye 🫡
That’s an awesome truck. Great channel, always makes me smile.
I vote for putting the grille back on. It goes with the looks of the truck and helps support those big flappy fenders, plus if it's on the truck it can't get lost. My bad was typing this just as you put the grille back on!
Nice, its coming along well
Thanks for sharing your unique talents and adventures!!!
Love that truck, Great job. Glad you put the grill on and I think it looks good painted brown. The hard steering might be caused somewhat by the dual tires on the front.
Maybe some of those extra wide front wheels dump trucks are running would turn better?snooky
@@allensnook7760 They are probably DESIGNED for tires like that.
Great good Fun!!
Love the grill going back in - the "blue" is definitely U.S. Airforce blue...
That was some good wholesome fun. Nicely done. Thank you.
Id love to see you do a road trip in that truck.
It worked good on its maiden voyage. all the lights worked perfectly, and the engine sounds good and the brakes worked very well. You are correct, the transmission is not synchronized in any gear. I've got a learning curve on that. I just started installing gauges today...
I'm surprised at just how entertaining this channel is.
that thing is a beast but it looks alot of fun
That thing looks like such a beast! I love it👌
Nothing makes me happier when James blesses us with a video
Can't wait to see how it does off-road!
I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK ,REMIND ME OF MY DAD ,FIRST TIME I LOOKED AT THIS CHANEL , OLD GUY IN Gordie land uk ENJOYING IT THANK YOU
Man I wish I had someone like you near me that I could spend time with to learn from.
Nice progress.. make sure to get you a heater core for inside.. start buttoning up inside.. pull a 10,000lb winch on it..
magnet stuck to the tank works great to pick up rust in the tank not the filter
Either way, Matt should of sent you a GOLDEN TICKET.
Such a cool truck, love it and all the fun things you've done to it.
That is going to be a cool old truck.
Great truck , looks good with the grill back on , thanks for sharing 👍
Keep on keepin on! love what you do.
When your dome light can double as your headlight.
Great job on the light selection and wiring! Looks REALLY good.
👍👍🎉
What a cracking looking truck well done on your efforts
Back in the mid 70s, I saw a truck, from what I remember, just like that one at a desert motorcycle race at Gila Bend, Arizona. The one and only time I have seen duals, front and rear. I bet double clutching when shifting would make shifts tons smoother.
It works and that's important. I liked the wiring job, so many people hate doing their own harness and yet it's pretty straight forward. Thank you.
Sounds good now
You are awesome man !! Thank you for you videos !!
That is a wicked looking truck! I love it.
I think you may have the indicator wiring for those accessories switches backwards. I would imagine that the light behind the legend supposed to be lit all the time and then the bar underneath should come on when the switch is on
That would make sense, but this is the way it was wired from the factory. Then again, it was the same place that installed the cover upside down...
Pretty cool truck. Good to see it coming together
