  • BMW may have passed up the chance to join MotoGP by taking over the Suzuki grid places but Markus Flasch, appointed Head of BMW Motorrad at the end of last year, has kept the door open to future involvement in the premier-class.
Flasch told German publication Motorrad: "BMW M has been a MotoGP vehicle partner for years. As BMW M boss, I have been to all the races, I know the people in charge and we are a brand with a presence there.
"But it's clear that it has to make sense for us, and that's why we're taking a close look at it. I wouldn't rule it out.”
At February’s Sepang test, Aprilia’s Massimo Rivola said it would be ‘nice’ for MotoGP to welcome a new manufacturer to replace Suzuki when the technical rules change for 2027.
Rivola even namechecked BMW by pointing at the testing speed of its new star World Superbike signing Toprak Razgatlioglu on the company's S1000RR.

It would be amazing if BWM, Triumph, Kawasaki, and Suzuki joined in 2027. But I suspect none of them will. It's just too expensive and sport bike sales are tanking.

For us moto gp lovers that would be a pinnacle but as you mentioned its not gonna happen. It would be so nice to see all bike manufacturers competing each other.

    No.
This rumour has started from a throwaway comment from Markus Flasch after conducting an interview for Motogp after the interview he was asked if BMW were planning entering the class, and he replied never say never, and everyone has put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5

No. ~ I hope I'm wrong, I'd love to see them join, but I can't see it happening. They've hired Toprac, which I give them credit for, and they're trying to give him the weapons he needs, and given the state of the bike market, that's probably about twice as much competition budget as is wise anyway. No way on god's green Earth they're going to spend 5x that much money to get into MotoGP. BM sell cars as well as bikes, and you could possibly argue getting a WSBK title would be good for the M brand, so the cars justify it, but even that's a slightly shaky nebulous claim. You can't justify it on the profits you make selling a few hundred litre class sports-bikes. The only possible justification is the cred the whole BMW brand gets. No way in the wide world it's cost effective to go into MotoGP at this point. That's becoming an aero-arms-race just like Formula One.

100% they will profit nothing by going to Moto GP and they don't have the love of bike racing as the other manufacturers do. It's prototype racing, if you want to sell a bike you stick with a superbike at a quarter of the cost.

I'd say more for a better money deal the a moto gp ride. He was so slow on the M1 Lynn said it wasn't for him. That was the easiest bike on the grid to ride at the time.

Although I would like to see that ... we have to be realistic , y can't even win in sbk so u have to walk first before u start running . They should Focus on to get Wins and or a World title in sbk imo.

Always good to see more manufacturers in the various racing classes. But Toprak is not even top 15 compared to current Moto GP rider talent.

If DORNA go all woke, and insist on bio fuels for 2027, it may spell the end for MotoGP. Reducing aero and getting rid of ride height devices is a good thing, to my mind, and should result in more overtaking, but if they do that, there's no reason to reduce the engine capacity. Will they also reduce Moto2 back to 600 just to ensure a differential?

40% non fossil fuels origin is already here in Motogp
Will you notice a slightly slower lap time if the racing is better?

He got his chance at Moto GP, Toprak rode the easiest bike on the grid that a new guy coming in on can be blistering fast on and he was way too slow. That's why Lynn said there was no place I'm prototype racing for him. Someone had made the comment "you're either made to ride prototypes or you're not. Some have that special touch and most don't. It can't be learned you just have to have it. He's great on a Superbike but wasn't the right fit for prototypes. I'd love to see BMW go to Moto GP but IMO Toprak will never have a big name over there.

no...not really, BMW have smooth riding style, not fit in with Moto GP... futhermore it's a slow bike...more less like you riding a Goldwing for Moto GP grand prix....why?...you need prove me that I'm wrong and end up like a KTM Racing Team?.... construct your engine, remove unwanted torque trinity transmission or gear... minimal everything inside that engine before you ready to go...in Moto GP they race with same limit engine specs, just they put everything make it faster...if you used 1000cc and you put everything that you have , it will turn to 1300cc...get it?...go~
