Josh, I envy you and your dad so much...my dad and I had talked about taking this trip when I retired from work but when I did finally retire he became very ill and passed away. How I wish we could have done what you and your Pops did. I lived thru you guys on your journey and thought a lot about how much my dad would have loved it. Keep traveling with your dad and taking those awesome videos. Steve R.
I drove this highway on my way to the University of Alaska back in the fall of 1965. It was all gravel back then and I remember before the trip I made a plexiglass cover for my windshield. I was warmed that the 18 wheel trucks kicked up lots of stones and one really needed this or you would have Yukon Roses covering the windshield. I also had to put fiver glass shields inside my fenders. This was to protect the fenders from becoming blown out be the gravel. Also there was so much dust when stuck behind other vehicles. I believe I was on it for a week. The vehicle was a 1965 VW Beetle that my parents gave me as a graduation gift for finishing my degree in geology at Lafayette college on the prior June. I had a friend with me and we camped along the way in a tent. I remember hearing animals around the tent in the middle of the night but we had been careful to put all our food and cooking gear safely in the car with all windows closed. It was the onl😮y time I rode the highway as after finishing my MS degree in November of 1967, my new wife and I took the inland passage down to Vancouver and then proceeded in the VW on to the east coast to go into the US Army for officer corps of engineers training at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. I always looked back at this trip on this gravel road as a highlight of the fall on the year.
Did this in the summer of 2019. Three month trip from SoCal all through Alaska. Dream trip in my 15’ trailer, wife and dog and cat. Trip of a lifetime. I wanna GO BACK!!!
Thanks for a lovely ride! I always wanted to go to Alaska but now I am 73 and living in Baja California, México and I don't think I will get to. But I enjoyed seeing your beautiful video. ☮️💜
Oh my gosh I really enjoyed this . Brought back so many memories from 40 years ago. Having families in Whitehorse, Yukon that I have visited and even flying high over Canadas highest mountain in a 2 engine Cessna with my dad early one morning while visiting for my sisters wedding in Kluane Junction. Now I want to see it again. So much beauty to see. ❤
Thanks for the video and for sharing such a wonderful memory....my parents were too busy working and making a living to be able to do this great trip....then unfortunately when we had the time and money my parents were too ill with health issues and no longer able to even think about planning...you are blessed to have this bonding time....cherish every minute
You guys killed it. Done the highway 25 times. Loved every trip, even at 40 below Most southerners blow through BC and Yukon as fast as possible. Thank you for taking your time. Love your enthusiasm, Cheers
I did the entire Alcan with my best friend on bicycles in 2010. It was an awesome 23 days of riding. Such beauty, wildlife and unique places to see like Muncho Lake, Laird hot springs and riding the Beaver Creek Rollers.
When my father was transferred from Ft. Richardson, AK to Ft. Hamilton, NY. in late 1965, we drove, as a small family, Mom, Dad and 4 of us young kids, the ALCAN in an old, red, Chevy II Station-Wagon. Being only 5 years old, then, I don't remember too much of the trip but I do know that it took us the better part of a week to drive the road. Thanks for this video!
Thanks for the beautiful, interesting trip! I like and laugh when you tease one another. Pops lying out flat, being stung and bloody under the giant mosquito’s blood 🩸 tipped stinger, is a classic funny!!!
AMAZING! My Pops (after our Alaskan adventure, he gained the name of Yukon Jack), flew our family along the Alaskan Highway in his private plane. Back in August 1977. I was 12 years old. So many memories. This is now my #1 bucket list to do, by road. We flew to Delta Jct, Whitehorse, Eagle, Anchorage and Fairbanks. Saw the Alaskan pipeline. I loved the Sourdough breads lol... You and your Pops had a wonderful adventure, memories! Love your video!!!!
You added another wonderful video. I love the way you detail things. You cover the right amount of information that someone could use for their trip. You talk of food, hotels, hikes, and things your audience might like to do. Every one of these shows you are really enjoying doing these videos, and I enjoy living vicariously through your trips. Thank you again. I'm looking forward to your next trip. And Pops, border control don't really take jokes well. That did remind me of when my ex and drove from Oklahoma to Maine, then drove around near the border in a New England loop. It was raining, I didn't know the road, so I was driving slower than normal. I pulled over at a gas station to look at the map for our next destination, and the truck following us pulled over when we did. It was the border patrol. We laughed because that far north and east, they probably didn't see too many Oklahoma plates up there. I think we were as surprised as they were. We were used to seeing border guards that were on the lookout for a totally different border! Anyway, I love all of your videos, and you really invite the viewer in to enjoy it with you. Keep up the amazing work that you do!
This was a great way for me to spend my Saturday evening - LOVE it all!! And, especially love the love for Adventures of A+K at the Sign Post Forest!! I subscribe to both of your channels and enjoy watching all your travels. I recently took a trip to Iceland with my 80 year old mom and ended-up creating a travel video for her to share with her friends, but also with her permission to put it on YT for others to watch and learn. I was inspired by both yours and Adam and Kathryn's channels to do this, so thank you again for sharing your adventures!!
What a spectacular journey with your Pops! Absolutely loved the Mama moose and her baby moose + the bears! That grisly bear was the best! How lucky y’all are to have experienced the wild life and stunning scenery of the Alaskan Highway!!
Josh! I totally love watching all of your adventures on UA-cam! You and your "Pops" are so fun to watch as you guys explore so many awesome and beautiful places!! Some of your videos I have watched more than once. I often show them to family members and friends. Two years ago, my sister drove along I-40 from Flagstaff, AZ into Asheville, NC. We referenced your " Route 66" video quite often to visit tourist sites along the way. I'm currently watching your Alaska Highway Road Trip. Tell Pops I said hello! He and I are about the same age. 😊
That bear was the cutest! I have a cat named Polar Bear and it reminded me of when he's on his back, playing, rolling around...wanting belly rubs...so cutie!
What a great production! I was born and raised in Anchorage, spent many hour on the Alcan! I am 59 can't even remember how many times I have went and came back home! Enjoy! We Welcome great people! Thanks
Moved from So Cal to BC 11 years ago. Live around the ALCAN these days, and much for the same reason that you all were excited for the Yukon. I haven't done this drive yet though, which is why I watched this. Thanks for the enthusiasm! I still feel this way about BC after a decade of living in it.
All great trips, we are watching all your videos on the TV, so I can leave a reaction there. It is wonderful that you and your Dad are making so many great memories. Thanks a lot for sharing. Greetings Agnes - from the Netherlands

@@ThroughMyLens it was! That road your pops was looking at that was the original route before they paved it, I’m guessing may have been the one we took. Love your content, by the way. Look forward to your next show.
Nice to travel along with you up the Alcan, i traveled that back in 74 when, most was gravel. Munch lake is a gorgeous place for sure. I worked on the construction of the Dempster hwy to Inuvik. Dawson city was an incredible place. I have an incredible story of an event i witnessed in my second Autobiograhy. Thanks again
That was great. It was wonderful seeing so many of those places where I've been. I lived in the Yukon for most of the 1970's down around Carcross on the Southern Lakes (headwaters of the Yukon River). Back in the 1970's it was 900 miles of gravel, from Dawson Creek to Whitehorse. I drove that gravel at least twenty times, back and forth. It's been forty some years since I was last up north, all this time thinking I should at least go back for a visit. Thanks for all the memories you provided with your well done video. Cheers from an old Yukoner!
Brilliant guys, well done - certainly a spectacular drive - thanks for taking us along. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your Adventures in the Far North.
Enjoyed your video! I haven't been on the Alcan since 1992. Between 1982 and 1992, my husband, kids, and I drove the hwy for 6 round trips. I've lived in Alaska for 46 years so far.
This road trip is a huge dream and bucket list item for me. Looks like you and Pops had a lot of fun driving this road. This is one of your best yet! Thank you so much for sharing. I hope I can drive this road one day!
One of the best videos you ever made! And seriously.. thank you for making them. Please don't stop. It's almost therapeutic to just leave this on playing. And props to Pops for that Outro. Best one yet!
Mary and I did this trip back in 2011. We drove from San Francisco to Dawson Creek and then drove all the way from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks AK. The trip up was fascinating. We spent the next 5 or 6 weeks exploring Alaska and instead of returning by the Alaska Highway, we returned by taking the Ferries from Haines AK to Prince Rupert and then to Port Hardy. We drove down Vancouver Island to Victoria and then crossed on a ferry back to the US and drove back to San Francisco.
Going on a Road Trip like this is a dream that is too far to reach for me. But your videos always make me feel like Im apart of a roadtrip with you and pops. Thank you for making videos like this and I hope more Road Trip videos to come with you and pops.
As always, it is so enjoyable to watch your videos and thanks for sharing the adventures with us....l was smiling every time you guys doing something fun...so cute to see Pop lied in blood (red clothes) under the huge mosquito at the end 😂
I don't usually watch long videos, but yours is the exception. Kudos to the narration and the video work. I drove the Alaska Highway in 1969 on my way to Eielson AFB at what was then called Mile 26 (the distance from Fairbanks) of the Alaska Highway. The end sign back then was in downtown Fairbanks. Seems that somehow the end of the highway moved a number of miles east! When I did my northern drive in September of 1969, the pavement stopped at mile 80 outside Dawson Creek. The only other pavement was a short stretch outside of Whitehorse. It was an adventure for sure!
Awesome video. I grew up in Muncho Lake and live in Fort Nelson now; I work up and down the highway every day and it’s awesome to see some quality UA-cam content that showcases this amazing area.
So happy to see your trip. Ive only done the trip once vanc island to dawson city and a dip into Stewart Hyder alaska and the glaciers. You guys make a great team travelling and you make the videos fun. Thank you.
Did this drive in Dec 1981 into Jan 1982 as it took 3 full weeks when it was mostly gravel in the middle of one of the worst winters in years! Some days we only made 20-30 miles and got snowed in at a lodge we luckily made it to in a severe storm that popped up. Beautiful in the winter does not describe the views that are forever burning into my memories. Want to do it again in summer one day!!
Your video showed a monument at Muncho lake that I built for Ernie Berkbeck he was a Alaska hway supervisor many years ago. I have lived in Fort Nelson for 41 years this year.
Wonderful video and trip Pops and Josh. Thank You for all the hardwork you put into it. The only surprise is with Pop's interest in the Gold Rush I couldn't believe you didn't go into Skagway and Dyea? When you were at Carcross you were right there. The beginning of the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails. Thanks Again!
Hoe awesome! I haven't been to Alaska since the by, when that highway was barely passable. If you drove a car to Fairbanks, the car would be dead after the trip. Glad to see it's been updated, but the permafrost was melting, ruining foundations and roads. Watson had a bad landslide yesterday, that buried part of the town of Watson. My heart goes to the people affected 💔.
I love your channel. You guys are awesome. I don’t remember seeing anyone else stopping to take pictures at the Yukon sign. The animals, scenery! I’m still blown away with the Bison/buffalo. Very cool!
Makes me want to travel with your family! So much like my family, I know we would all have a great time sharing all the wonderful sights and such. Thanks for a great video!
Wow, fabulous video! You present so much info, show so many sites and tons of scenery. Plus, it is a very calm, listenable voice. By far the best I have seen on the Alaska Hwy.
Another great vid. Love watching you and pops. Love that you showed A+K at the sign forest. Your two channels have helped me develop a passion for travel I never had before. Keep up the good work!
Your videos make me feel that there is wonderful community of walkers and riders on UA-cam and I won't have to feel lonely when I am on your channel. Thank you. : )
Here is a piece of history that most Americans don't know. The steel cable suspension bridge that you were under at the Hot springs was made from parts of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. ( Galloping Guirty) There was a shortage of steel during the war so they trucked sections of it to finish the Liard river crossing.
Another great video! My husband and I visited Alaska at the end of August (our first time there!). We did roughly the same trip you did a year or so ago (started in Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks, back to Anchorage, then Seward). From Fairbanks back to Anchorage, we took the Richardson Hwy (4), thinking we might stop and do the trek on the Matanuska Glacier like you two did. The drive took us much longer than we'd planned on. The construction zones were insane, with long waits for pilot cars, and then treacherous drives through the construction areas, so I'm glad you mentioned the construction here.
Absolutely incredible & stunning scenery. I appreciate the history & dialogue pertaining to the diverse locations. Kind regards & safe travels from Adelaide, South Australia.
What a beautiful trip! Thank you for taking us along the way. I don't think I'll ever make it to Alaska highway, so it's just super nice to be able to watch a video and live it through the screen 😅 Safe travels looking forward to more of your adventures with pops.
We drove all the way to Arctic Ocean from Alberta last July 2023. We don't have enough budget but we made it by cooking our own meals most of the time and staying in the campgrounds, no tent set up just slept inside our van or we even parked in truck stops in some nights. We only stayed in the hotel (expensive) twice on the way because we didn't know there are so many campgrounds along the way.
This is one of the best Alaska Highway video's I've seen. I lived in Alaska as a small child and moved when I was ten. I have been going up almost every year since 1990. I spend most of my time in the Kenai Peninsula fishing for Salmon Trout and Halibut . My son and I drove from Panama City Florida to Bellingham Washington last May and took the Ferry to Haines. The remote stop light on the trailer is exactly where we had to stop for construction just past Haines Junction. It was the trip of a lifetime. I'm starting my on UA-cam channel this June called Allen and Son Alaska Adventures . with over 34 years experience of traveling to Alaska keep and eye out for it.
I watched your Alaska trip videos earlier this year and they were very helpful in planning my Alaska trip itinerary in May. Your comments about being sure to gas up were spot on! We almost ran out of gas on our return to Anchorage from Seward. I thought there was a gas station in Moose Pass....I was wrong! We coasted into the Girdwood gas station on fumes! After that I topped off every time I spotted a gas station.
Amazing video! Thank you for sharing. We would love to take this trip. My Wife, 5 yr old Son and our two dogs made the trip from California to Colorado in 2021 when we moved to the Rocky Mountains.
Beautiful drive!! Thank you so much! I have a friend whose father was in the military in Alaska and she remembers their family driving on the Alaska aHighway in the late 1950s!
Thanks for another fun video that is also relaxing to watch. My husband and I have ventured off our usual travel paths to find places you recommend. Can't wait to check out some of the spots in this video!
I'm fron Teslin the yukon....thanks for visiting our town. There's so much more here than one can imagine. Instead of going to Woodstock in 1969 l drove from Vancouver to Teslin. I settled here...raised my family and still live here. Happy trails partner
Im planning to do this drive (and then up to Prudhoe Bay) next summer, hopefully. Lots of cool museums you spotlighted on the way! Thanks for the video!
Hi, thanks for sharing your amazing experience with us! My Grandparents drove the Alaska highway in the 1990's to Whitehorse! Grandma was a photographer so she took many pictures of the trip!! I hope one day I can do the Drive with my family, thanks again for sharing your trip!

Going on a Road Trip like this is a dream that is too far to reach for me. But your videos always make me feel like Im apart of a roadtrip with you and pops. Thank you for making videos like this and I hope more Road Trip videos to come with you and pops.
My son and I are planning this trip next June.
As always, it is so enjoyable to watch your videos and thanks for sharing the adventures with us....l was smiling every time you guys doing something fun...so cute to see Pop lied in blood (red clothes) under the huge mosquito at the end 😂
Thank you for the lovely trip!! I’m in MD and my sis lives in TX. Hoping to make the journey before we get too old!!
I love all the museums and restaurants you showed stopping at.
Glad you liked them!
An Outstanding video. The best I ever seen
What a memory with father son. Perfect timing as I want to see and play in AK 2024..
I'm watching both Josh 'Through My Lens' and Traveling Robert do the Alcan highway. It's awesome ! 😃👍
So awesome! Love Robert’s channel
Your video showed a monument at Muncho lake that I built for Ernie Berkbeck he was a Alaska hway supervisor many years ago. I have lived in Fort Nelson for 41 years this year.
@claudenormandeau9211 That's cool! Muncho lake is so gorgeous.
Well done, as usual! Thanks for helping me travel through your lens. You and your dad make a fabulous team!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Drove it in 1975 in pickup camper. Gravel road. Loved every moment of the trip.
I love your channel. You guys are awesome. I don’t remember seeing anyone else stopping to take pictures at the Yukon sign. The animals, scenery! I’m still blown away with the Bison/buffalo. Very cool!
Glad you liked it! It was such an incredible experience for sure
Makes me want to travel with your family! So much like my family, I know we would all have a great time sharing all the wonderful sights and such. Thanks for a great video!
Pops took one for the channel! Love it!😅
Awesome I'm getting too old glad to see you doing it for me
Wow, fabulous video!
Thank you. : )
So glad you feel like you’re in a community watching the channel! Very kind words!
you and your pops are always interesting on any trip and i enjoy every thing & all the places....
So glad you enjoy the videos! Appreciate the comment
Your dad's really cool. He really knows how to have fun!
Here is a piece of history that most Americans don't know.
The steel cable suspension bridge that you were under at the Hot springs was made from parts of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. ( Galloping Guirty)
There was a shortage of steel during the war so they trucked sections of it to finish the Liard river crossing.
thats one hell of a germy for steel (1,286 miles or 2069.616 KMs
Glad you got to have a great time in Alaska. I agree, the construction areas are no joke and can be really long delays!
Awesome road trip really enjoyed the video the scenery was beautiful
I really like that father and son journey
We drove all the way to Arctic Ocean from Alberta last July 2023. We don't have enough budget but we made it by cooking our own meals most of the time and staying in the campgrounds, no tent set up just slept inside our van or we even parked in truck stops in some nights. We only stayed in the hotel (expensive) twice on the way because we didn't know there are so many campgrounds along the way.
Wow Josh and Pops! Great trip on the Alaska Hwy! Loved all the beautiful scenery and wildlife! Thank you!❤️😀🇺🇸🚙
This is one of the best Alaska Highway video's I've seen.
That is awesome! Glad the videos have inspired some adventures
I'm fron Teslin the yukon....thanks for visiting our town. There's so much more here than one can imagine. Instead of going to Woodstock in 1969 l drove from Vancouver to Teslin. I settled here...raised my family and still live here. Happy trails partner
Just got back to Alaska and just finished watching your video. Awesome job Josh & Pops! 😊👍
I enjoyed you two! Thank you for sharing your adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
