I've been talking to my psychiatrist about relating to friends with diagnosed ADHD so this kinda makes sense why there is a very good probability I do have it. Downside is that she's cautious about an official diagnosis since my depression and anxiety are being well managed at the moment and ADHD might require different approaches than that so we'll see how that goes! Also, I felt called out about pointing out that I chose the 2 minute one because I scrolled past the longer ones lol!!

Thank you for saying this. I'm literally a modern day teenager so this isn't an out-of-time jab on the modern generation, but these self diagnoses are incredibly dangerous; making people who want to feel unique or different simply branding themselves as ADHD or dyslexic and minimising it to just an attribute of not working towards being organised or respecting their time. I wouldn't consider myself organised per se, and I do check off on all of these "symptoms" but this applies to almost every one of my peers at school. It feels like an advertisement for their practice if anything, just to get a few more customers in. If clinical conditions could be diagnosed sitting on your couch psychologists wouldn't be throwing millions of dollars into more precise and substantiated research. Genuinely hideous to be perfectly honest

    1. I procrastinate a lot, started using list and force myself to complete tasks within a certain time (time blocking) but it's really hard to stick with the schedule i chose even when i give myself plenty of time (right now i should be practicing the piano for example)
    2. my time management issue is more about my tasks more than anything cause i hate to be late, it stress the fuck out of me and i absolutely don't want to be the guy that everyone look at when he's late i'm to afraid of people judgment for that.
    3. most of the time i don't finish my project, even on stuff that i like sadly, i tell myself that i'll finish later then 10 years pass i find the project and be like : oh ... yeah i wanted to finish this a long time ago... (drawing for example)
    4. i forget people birthday a lot, i also never make contact my familly or friends most of the time they contact me, i get that some people in my familly feel like i don't care about them but nah it's not the way it is, i'm trying to be organized but it's still a mess that i need to figure out.
    5. considering that as soon as the video started i went straight into the comment section ? i'd say yes, had to reroll it and pause the video to write down my comment for each point, i definitly finish sentence for other and often cut them off, i try to restrain myself but yeah

The procrastination one and project one made me laugh.
Case in point. Classes for my school started last week. They usually have a 0 week of about three days before it actively starts so usually Friday sat and sun before class starts Monday.
I PURPOSEFULLY requested *time off from work* for that Saturday of 0 week to have time to start reading early and starting on maybe one or two easy to start assignments.
That gave me three days off back to back.
I started the reading in both classes. Started a couple assignments but as the weekend continued i lapsed.
My one assignment was due yesterday before midnight.
The 4-500 word assignment was 295 word and turned in last night around 11:58

No! 1) I'm willing to guess that half the general population would endorse these four symptoms (I certainly did), yet gold-standard measures say only about 4% of the population actually has ADHD. 2) Even in folks who endorse all the textbook symptoms of ADHD there are dozens of other conditions that need to be excluded before ADHD can be properly diagnosed. 4) Self reports of ADHD symptoms are notoriously inaccurate, and can lead to both over- and under-diagnosis. Proper diagnosis is made through extended clinical observation, sometimes aided by objective testing such as computerized tests of attention done both on and off stimulants (although testing isn't absolutely necessary or accurate without clinical correlation.

Ok so I'm pretty sure I have ADD and the more I've been looking up information about it the more I come to understand myself and why I have so much difficulty being how people expect me to be which is something I focus too hard... why do I need to be officially diagnosed for anything? It's not like I'm going to go around seeking to get benefits from it or something.

For me, I’m looking to get diagnosed for work and to possibly try out medication and certain therapies. If you’re struggling to meet peoples’ and your own expectations, then that sounds like a problem for you and you could get some help for it. I’m struggling at my new job because I’m late so much and it’s making me feel terrible about myself. I’m scared I will get fired, and so I’m trying to get a diagnosis so that my boss can understand that I really do care about my job, I just struggle but I’m trying my best.

I said yes to everything but I feel like a lot of people did. Those are pretty common symptoms except the laat one, I can listen to friends without interrupting. Not lectures but friends

I think the main thing is if you have one or two, you’re probably okay but if you’ve got multiple symptoms and it affects your work and social relationships, that’s where the problems come in and that’s when ADHD is diagnosable. If you can get by whilst having those symptoms then you probably don’t have it, but for people with ADHD it makes everyday life a struggle. I often feel like I’m trying to get from one side of a swamp to the other and I’m wading through this thick goo that’s just slowing me down, and it’s like the harder I try to get through it, the harder it pushes against me

I do okay only with #4, but only because I write them down in a calendar and have it remind me automatically, I suppose.
I'm 43 years old. I started realizing I might have ADHD a few weeks ago. I'm very uncomfortable with that possibility but it sure explains a lot of things that's happened to me over the course of my life.

Dr Fruitman, in your experience, how do you go with the long term efficacy of stimulant treatment? I have recently being diagnosed and prescribed stimulant medication which has been extremely helpful and made a large difference, however my one concern is that tolerance seems inevitable and one can only increase the dose so much. I am concerned that in the long run my brain will eventually go back to baseline even with the medication.
What are your thoughts on this?
