I was commenting on the cable tang of the original design. It seems completely illogical to me. I get it that they did it for a reason, I get it that it’s probably a complex process, but give me a full tang knife all day.
Awesome job, it looks like a completely different knife with the new handle. Your business practice is fine by me and this day and age it's how it needs to be. ✌🏻
The cold steel black bear Bowie machete can be purchased for under 30 bucks. Their machete line is almost indestructible and is arguably one of the best bangs for the buck out there. Thanks to joex for his destruction tests.
Great Job. But to be honest, I have always heard how bad the cable tang was. But I have yet to see a video showing a failure with it. I have seen failure in some of the other Cold Steel full tang knives being broken. And I have seen videos of the Laredo and Natchez being broken in other places. Just not the tang. This is by no means trying to take away from your excellent craftsmanship. You have done an outstanding job. Just giving a fair honest opinion on the cable tang.
Yes, this is a hidden tang, in the false full tang style, common in knifes made in pakistan. This type of tang can be sufficient if it is not to skinny etc.
Can anyone explain why the original handle on these knives are made the way that they are? Is the blade steel pretty good, hard, all things considered?
@@Philophong how do you know that it’s more expensive? Is the cable welded to the blade steel or is it glued on? If it’s welded on how do they heat treat it after it’s welded?
@tango-bravo well it has to be. If it's more complicated it MUST be more expensive. This is an undeniable fact. It's not even up for debate. What's the likelihood a knife manufacturer build a knife unnecessarily expensive? That doesn't make any sense! Right? The only problem is, people like you refuse to accept the fact that the knife is made for FIGHTING. NOT batoning. It's very simple. But if somebody wants to baton with it, and want to rebuild it? Sure! Fantastic. Just don't say the knife is lacking in design and from manufacturing. That's all I'm saying.
@@wallaceknifeworkshomesteaddoes Cold Steel advertise these as usable knives?and there are actually people saying this is a good design? I must be missing something
Sorry what, i thought you were going to weld a steel extension to the tang to replace the cable with solid steel. What you did there was weaken the handle. Moreover, if you wanted a real full tang you’d have removed the guard and welded steel to the shoulders at the tang and around the tang with a notched piece of steel then opened up the guard hole to fit over newly built up “ full” tang. In short, doing nothing to the knife would have been a better option for structural integrity than what you did.

His conversions are structurally poor compared to the tang as manufactured. That you don’t know this means I call your opinion false.
Wow what a transformation looks real good . Yer you’re right your shop your rules . Thanks take Care Mr Wallace
It looks better and is probably stronger too. Great job!

No reason to remove the cable tang, unless you just want new style handle.
Thank you for showing how you did this.
That brass pin sure seems large, relative to the tang width? Or is that just an illusion?
Pretty good job. Good idea. I would have liked a little more hook on the back. Deposit definitely good idea.
You must really like those electric anchor winches to sneak the into another video. :-) The new handle looks nice.
P.S., I had asked the guys who I got the brass from whether they had any 1/4 inch rod and they didn't have any.
Opps 😁
Bravo monsieur !!! Beau boulot !!!!!😊

Can anyone explain why the original handle on these knives are made the way that they are? Is the blade steel pretty good, hard, all things considered?
They do, they make them for fighting and the cable tang is actually more expensive to manufacture than a full tang.

I have made a few lightweight ones, Lot of trouble they are
That’s not a full tang. It’s the same stub tang, hidden under an aluminum frame. Probably weaker than the original cable tang.
