The Zoom and Focus demands are great in theory, but the big issue with the zoom demand is compatibility. So far the only lenses I have found that aren't discontinued are: The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6. Its weird that they would put out a product with such a narrow range of compatible lenses. You'd really need a servo zoom motor to take advantage of the MFT range.
Maybe Midle Things can make a solution for other zoom lenses? I hope for a zoom motor from Blackmagic but i don’t think they will.. Could you make something like that?
Extremely valuable as usual! I've been watching your channel for a while now, and I like how you provide value in your content as much as in your production. Keep up the great work! I don't understand the interest in keeping the mft mount for studio cameras, having done all kind of live production it's clear to us that B4 is the way to go unless you plan on bringing a whole range of accessories to help you better control zoom/focus on all mft lenses..it won't be comparable.
An extra $895 for the studio converter, extremely disappointing. NDI +POE solutions are becoming much more affordable. BMD missing the mark here... $1795 for MFT camera + $895 converter + $999 lens. A 4 camera studio going to start at $12,000, and that's without a switcher --- BirdDog and PTZ Optics are laughing IMO.
You are comparing the uncomparable. A Birdog 4cam kit, will cost more than $10,000 as well. For PTZ cameras that are really bad as soon as you add a little bit of gain. The all in one solutions you are mentionning are surely a bit easier to set up, but the quality is absolutely uncomparable, not even talking of NDI compression of an image that has a poor SNR ratio and high visible or invisible noise. And Blackmagic often introduces substantial price drops from time to time. So it all depends on the usecase, the audience of the live show / podcast etc..
The studio converter adds a crap ton of features. Gives you more outputs, you can run the program feed back to the camera and actually send it out of the hdmi on the camera to a teleprompter or TV just below the camera. Tally, talkback andTimecode is the huge one for me. I added an ATEM SDI extreme ISO just to use one of the outputs to record iso feeds into that. It’s amazine

Great review. Lots of good information. It is the camera I have been waiting for, but the lack of lenses available worries me. Interesting thought about the zoom motor, I did wonder why they are shipping the base plate for rods.
Blackmagic makes zoom and focus demands for use on the studio camera. But there are entirely TWO Olympus lenses that feature electronic zoom. And the only zoom at one speed on those Olympus lenses. Again- without a B4 mount and the 7-speed ramping zoom lens attached to the front, BMD is not going to sell very many zoom controls for the Studio camera, and then they'll discontinue the controls- essentially fueling the failure of their own accessories.

As always from you old chap (AKA Zebrazone) - a very good well balanced piece - thank you... Otherwise it will mean a third party adapter will be the way forward?
Thank you ! Oh actually we did take off those 4 screws, but the part didn't come off, so it's not designed to be changed. But the space on the body around the MFT sensor could mean another version could be coming ! EF isn't really an issue since you can use a speedbooster and focus / iris control should still work. But B4.... yes, let's hope for an adaptor !
Thank you very much for this Video. May I ask, if you had the chance to test the autofocus a little further? I wonder how good - or if at all - the camera could track an object or person in front of it. Would it be possible to have it in a scenario like a one-man show where it would be not operated? Could it be set to somethong like "focus on neares object"? I would be very interested in these answers. Thank's again
These cameras are almost exclusively used with b4 lenses, in fact some of your broll had box b4 mount lenses on the camera. You simply engage the doubler.
Unfortunately you did not talk about one of the biggest weakness of the studio cameras (and Blackmagic in general): autofocus. We have the old studio cameras and basically you have to manually focus everything. Otherwise it is a great review. Thanks for the sample footage and the lens recommendation.

I have a B4 Lens attached w/adaptor to my GH5s. Love it ! So, I share your idea of promoting B4 lenses to fit the BMSC 4K Pro. I would gladly attach my existing B4 lens to it.
We'll make a video on that. We did manage to balance it with the RS2 but we had to remove the right handle, which means opening the body. If BM releases an updated micro studio 4K it will be even better !

Is the HDMI output less horrible than the bmpcc4k/6k ? that is still my deal-breaker... I cannot use them for live streaming, the HDMI output is really soft... especially unusable for wide shots
Thanks for the review! Have a question: which MFT lenses could be used with zoom and focus accessories. Couldn’t find the lens from the Blackmagic presentation.
Any lens with Autofocus would work with the Focus demand. As far as the Zoom demand, there are only two as far as I know that are compatible: The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 ASPH
You can easily use a B4 ENG lens on the camera. Just need the right adaptors. I use a 4-pin XLR power to B4 power and XLR split. So the BM Studio camera and lens are powered up in one cable. Using an IBE HDX1.4 to convert B4 to MFT mount. Unfortunately you still don't get CCU control of the iris, since the camera and lens still can't communicate. It's still a great low-cost alternative to the URSA Broadcast.
Just wondering if you used a B4 Lens with a 2X converter built-in would that fix the vignetting? Just bought 4 of these cameras and looking for other lens options.

Possible solution?

Would this the correct lens for the 4kpro Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 Pro Lens, for Micro Four Thirds Cameras? I just want to make sure that I am ordering the correct lens based on you information
Sachtler Ace M/XL works great ! But if you plan to have both Zoom And Focus demand you need to consider a tripod that can have two telescopic bars, not just one
One of the things that is extremely disappointing about this camera is the remote focus and zoom controls. Blackmagic only lists a few lenses that are compatible and the lenses are not exactly high end lenses. None are static F-stop throughout zoom range so I'm not sure why anyone would spend $500+ for focus/zoom and install a cheap $200 lens.

HEY MAN! THIS VIDEO IS SICK!!! YOU GUYS ARE AN AWESOME BRAND AND DEFINITELY LOOK FORWARD TO BUYING PRODUCTS FROM YOU GUYS!! BUT.... I DO HAVE A QUESTION AND WOULD LOVE IN THE INFO ON HOW TO MAKE THAT "DIY TALKBACK ADAPTER"!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU DID IT LOL!
Does this camera have autofocus? If, so, How and where you can set it?
Can you extract the talkback audio in software rather than hardware? Finding it hard to see any documentation on this 😔
That would be awesome. Not sure it's possible at this stage
Good work dude
Hey there, very nice video! did i got it right, so the 12-100mm Olympus lens supports a zoom servo internal ?
Thanks! The 12-100 does not have any zoom servo built in
What lenses are you using on the Blackmagic Studio Pro that can be controlled from the camera
Mostly the Olympus 12-100. Almost all micro four thirds lenses that have a focus motor built in can be controlled by the camera (lens + iris). If you want zoom too, there are only 4 and they are not great
@@MiddleThings Why is the camera not letting press on the screen for focus with this lens?
The one featured in the presentation is the Olympus M.Zuiko ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ
Didn't know that ! Vrey cool. The IBE HDX1.4 is around $2000 though
@@MiddleThings Yeah unfortunately. BM could make thier own proper B4 to MFT but I guess that would eat into ursa sales
Nice review
the downside for the focus and zoom remote is that they cant be used at the same time, you would have to zoom, let go of the remote and then focus
Love your content
Thank you!
Just wondering if you used a B4 Lens with a 2X converter built-in would that fix the vignetting? Just bought 4 of these cameras and looking for other lens options.
Yes the 2x converter fixes the vignetting, but the problem is that the converter reduces the light and the sharpness … not great
@@MiddleThings If you put it on f4 its no problem at all...i film with a college and he has a fx9 with the 24 - 105 4k lens...we have the same output if you use it only on 1080p...but even then i did recordings on 4k with the B4 and in post a little tiny sharpness on it...bam. But for 9 out of 10 ...it works for the streaming. But you have to have luck with the B4 lens...read my post for explain.
Great review - now, please tell me that camera is light enough to work with the Ronin RS2 on a long term basis - that would mean I wouldn't have to go down the Birddog NDI route.
Great review indeed.

"You can also bring up the zebra"
I can order one of those talk back cables systems from you?
Unfortunately we don't sell them :(
@@MiddleThings Thanks anyway! I will try to figure it out.
Thanks for information🙏🏻
Thank you !
I totally agree, a external zoom motor would be very great and useful ! ;)
Maybe MiddleThings is going to develop such an external zoom motor? Maybe together with DJI as with the gimbal you already have this feature!? Those 4 Electronic zoom lenses are NOT an option for me - then i would better invest in a DJI Gibmal and Middle Things APC-R instead of the BM Zoom and Focus Demand. How do you see that? Possible solution?
Great video!
Très bonne review ! Merci beaucoup !!!👍 Love from Paris 🇨🇵
Merci !
This review was incredible. That earned a Subscribe and Like for sure! What tripod are you using? We grabbed this camera and want to make sure we get the right tripod setup as well.
Would this the correct lens for the 4kpro Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 Pro Lens, for Micro Four Thirds Cameras? I just want to make sure that I am ordering the correct lens based on you information
Nice work, thank you.
What tripod would you recommend for the camera?
Sachtler Ace M/XL works great ! But if you plan to have both Zoom
And Focus demand you need to consider a tripod that can have two telescopic bars, not just one
Wow I like this camera ❤️
can I use the camera to live stream using the ATEM
Sure !
Woah, this reminds me a lot of Zebrazone, nice!
Lol my first thought as well
This is Thibaud from Zebra Zone right!?
Same guy 😂
One of the things that is extremely disappointing about this camera is the remote focus and zoom controls. Blackmagic only lists a few lenses that are compatible and the lenses are not exactly high end lenses. None are static F-stop throughout zoom range so I'm not sure why anyone would spend $500+ for focus/zoom and install a cheap $200 lens.
Anyone figure out if you can playback media directly on camera. How can I preview what I’m recording. Clients want to see when we break
No mention of Genlock...?
@@MiddleThings is this in response to my question??? what does Genlock have to do with a gimbol? genlock is in relation to frame syncing for the camera...
@@original9 Sorry, reply went to the wrong person somehow !
Does it work with DZOFilm DZO 20-70mm T2.9 MFT Parfocal Cine Lens?
I see no readon why it wouldn't since it's an MFT Lens
