Good video, I’m a sunderland fan but it’s great to learn about our history. Would love a battle with you Geordie lot but only on the football pitch of course.
Brilliant presentation. It might teach both sets of fans something about their heritage - and give them something to chat about over a pint (or two), together, rather than banging heads etc.... Hopefully someone can expand the way this battle went, tactics gains / Losses etc.. Thanks Eddie.

However, it’s just not something worth pursuing on my particular channel as the audience isn’t quite right for it. I’m actually disappointed with the viewing so far for this video (the click through rate) and that’s a video based purely on the highlights.

I can’t find any connection with Sunderland and the Jacobites as the Jacobites were forced to head West from Newcastle when we closed the gates. Could you send me the reference please bud 👍🏻

@@TynesideLife Deleval Hall would be a good 1 to visit, there's a very old church in those grounds with Magna Carta engraving.. That Charter is very important in our History and also American constitution is based on the Magna Carta. There's the old Miners Colliery tragedy up there, which changed the laws on mining. You might of covered this area before.

1 league cup tie in 60 years says the odds of a Cup Tyne Wear derby is very slim indeed. Astonishing really, considering apart from (ahem) 1 or 2 seasons both clubs have been in the top 2 divisions.....

He explains that a lot of the Gremlins were no longer there as they did'nt think the mackems were stupid enough to cut themselves off by coming over on the ferry. The Woolsington ran by Granty though was full of hard fkrs from North Shields, and they joined the remaining Gremlins and headed down Burdon Main Row. One of my good mates ended up getting 12 months. I was working over a 100 miles away in Grangemouth but my name has been bandied about for years regarding that night

The Casuals were jumping into taxis to meet them at the next pub but were eventually encouraged to meet them at North Shields. The Casuals were expecting a toe to toe fight but were met by dozens on the other side tooled up with bars, bats and pool balls. Some Casuals were battered and ran off to get the ferry to South Shields. Others stayed but were obviously battered. This account doesn’t reflect well on the Newcastle side if true. Personally I would always say Newcastle United VS Sunderland Or Sunderland VS Newcastle United is the closest England has to the level of hostility we have with The Old Firm. The only rivalry that perhaps comes close in my view in England is Leeds United VS Manchester United The War of The Roses in a football sense also The War of The Roses is Civil War related. I understand that the part about the Civil War was only a brief recap but it is so much more complex than you are leading people to believe it was. Basically The English Civil War was something Scotland was caught up in the middle of because of The Union of The Crowns buy King James The 6th of Scotland how become King James The 1st of England a horrible man how's actions continue to cause issues to this day in Scotland & in Nothern Ireland to put it mildly. I love The North East of England it's full of some of the best people you will ever find worldwide. I am not a Newcastle United or Sunderland fan personally but I would love to see the derby return in a football sense sometime soon but Sunderland will need a lot of help to make it a real contest financially now. As we say in Scotland we are all Jock Tamsons Waynes or Bairns we says Waynes for kinds in The West of Scotland & Brains is an East Coast team in Scotland it means we are all the same. It also clarified the context of the Scottish Covenenters being primarily involved in the Battle of Boldon Hill. I haven’t set out to mislead and I summarised the civil war to around 30 seconds, just to give my particular audience a rudimentary understanding of the civil war. Of course it doesn’t reflect the full political and religious complexities of the time, but as I summarised it based on a couple of historical texts, including the Royal Historical Society, I’m fairly comfortable that my brief explanation wasn’t misleadingly inaccurate. Events here spiraled into the Bishops war, the breakdown of relations between the king and the English parliament and thus to war. Stephenson , Armstrong,swan ,that would keep you busy for about 4 yr our area is amazing it really is 👏👏👏
