You should try magnetic parts trays from either Harbor Freight or any auto parts store. Keeps everything where you left it no worries if you bump into it. Also a small artist paint brush to apply the grease works great and keeps both hands clean.
Very nice video and showing details about properly lubing up the axles and gears. I use pipe cleaners to aid in removing the dirt and grime and they work great for adding grease to the inside of the axles. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this to us.
You did a lot of hard work there. Thanks for sharing 🙂I am new to RC hobby and am going to buy a trx4 this week. This does look overwhelming to me but at the same time does increase my confidence a bit🙂
Christopher Suarez Thank you for watching! I try my best to help people out in the hobby as I know many people have questions and concerns the local hobby shops may not be able to answer!
Scott Harris Thanks for the tip! I guess I still haven’t figured out all of the tricks with these new style axles that don’t spilt completely apart! Thanks for stopping by again Scott! Glad you enjoy the videos!
Put parts is a plastic box with spirit, you want to loosen dirts and wash off sand and stuff and brush them. That way you clean the bearings as well. Dry and regrease.
Thanks for the detailed video. Quick question. I have a new TRX4 Bronco and have about 2 hours run time on it and noticed the front wheels have a bit of play. It looks like play in the wheel bearing. Do you have play on yours too? Rears feel much tighter. I don't see how they can be bad since it's brand new but it does seem a bit loose so wanted to check with you. Thanks.
Todd Simone mine have only the slightest bit of play, the rear is definitely tighter though. If it’s concerning to you I’d recommend contacting traxxas however a slight bit of play is normal. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any more questions!
Why not use a silicone base gasket sealant for the transmission joints rather than using grease? It will help to seal and act as a water resistant material and easily removable ...
Fusion Mediavision Publishing I find that to be more of a mess since I can easily use grease and for these small trucks it’s often nearly as effective.
Hi friend 😊 brilliant video, helpful, But when you were showing us some things on camera i could not see what you were trying to show us, But all in all a brilliant video, helpful, thanks very much mate 👍 I'm just getting in to RC crawling, But just looking on UA-cam to see what RC crawler i may buy, I'm thinking of a redcat gen8 scout2 Axe!! Hey Ethan, I just did this on my trx4 bronco and now my truck will not go into reverse very easily. It takes like 10 pushes of the throttle and then it jumps backyards about a foot. Too much grease maybe?
Christopher Suarez definitely could be too much. I like to make sure that I can turn the axles by hand first to ensure there won’t be too much stress on the motor. Especially with the portal axles on these trucks it’s possible that your truck is facing some stress from too much grease. Thanks for watching!
Christopher Suarez oh good! Sometimes it’s hard to tell with how long batteries last nowadays! It might have a bit of reduced power for a few minutes before the gears push the excess grease out of the way but after that it should be all set. Glad you got it figured out!
Ojr Ringwald I doubt it would be very difficult if you are capable of the greasing that i have done in the video. I run a 5000 mah 2 cell lipo. Thanks for watching!
Haha good job buddy 👍 I was actually doing my TRX-4 axles when your video came up. I'm really fussy about my RCs, some say I take the hobby to seriously. I don't think so, it's a hobby take it how you want it. I remember trying to share this little tip on social media and I got mostly negative feedback. It is what it is though, I always like to see how others do things. Grate video dude👍

i just bought metal replacement axles for my trx4 sport but have to put the old axle guts into the new ones... do you know of any videos that show how its done?
Hey Ethan! Did you go through any break in process for the Titan motor? and if so which one. Im looking to pick myself up a TRX4, and im reading mixed things on how to break in the motor. Thx
Robert S Tiest haha! I did put quite a bit in those axles but nowadays I’m a little more sparing. I guess it will help keep the water out. Thanks for watching!

So I tore my trx4 tactical down cause the front right wheel got wet and washed the grease out, so I cleaned and re-greased it but when I tried to put the driveshaft back into the axle it wouldn’t go far enough, the shorter drive shaft will slide right it but no matter how much I wiggle, turn, or push the right won’t go in. Any suggestions on that??
Brady Chayka is it the axle shafts in the axle that go between the differential and then portals or the drive shaft between the front axle and the transmission? Is it possible that the hole where the driveshaft needs to go is full of grease?
Brady Chayka have you made sure all your bearings are correctly on the axle shaft? If they aren’t it might be stopping you from getting it all the way in. Maybe traxxas could provide you a manual also so you could compare your truck to a parts diagram?
Ethan Boening no it’s when I go to put the shaft where you said to wiggle it a little then it pops in and will turn when you hit the throttle, I can get it in enough to make it turn but not to put the 2 screws to connect the entire hub
Brady Chayka and you’re sure you have the correct axle shaft for this size since they are different lengths on this axle? Hard for me to judge what the issue is without seeing it. Have you thought about trying to give traxxas a call? They have a fantastic service department I would recommend them to anyone.
greati video! i have a question. SAVEGE LUIGI3431 this should work for your situation then. I might not add quite as much grease if it’s thick because the extra friction that it causes can create a good amount of heat.
