Yesss! Arena! Love them since they first came out with this one.
Defenitely check out Solomon from the same album. Masterpiece.
Its always one of the highlights of their liveset.
And you're missing out if you never heard their 3rd album The Visitor, one of the best progalbums from the 90's imo.
    Love your channel, guys.

I've known about Arena for 20 years but never had any of their albums.Went to see them in 2019 & bought seven of their albums from their merch desk. You can't go wrong with any of them. The drummer is Mick Pointer, ex-Marillion, keyboard player Clive Nolan is in Pendragon. Present guitarist John Mitchell is in various bands (but he's not on this album). If I was to recommend one track it would be "The Butterfly Man", it was the first one I heard. B^)

Mick Pointer on drums was the original drummer with Marillion, so you drew an interesting comparison.
The founder of Arena is keyboardist Clive Nolan, a real wizard on the keys and reminds me in some ways of Rick Wakeman. He was also with Pendragon, another band you need to explore along with Mostly Autumn.
The standout tracks for me on this album are Jericho and Solomon which I love to drum to, it's top drawer.
I highly recommend 'If I Were The Wind' by 'Pendragon' and ''Heroes Never Die' by 'Mostly Autumn'.
    Well done guys 😊

@@mvunit3 Not so fast, Speedo. Lol. I knew some stuff … but Rudi introduced me to Ayreon last year. But while he was asking which vocalist I liked, I was fixated on track 1 - The Dream Sequencer because it was: 1) trippy, 2) android, 3) space, 4) circular narrative (the last being the first). So, sue me. Plus, I’ve done “research” as one of many unique professions through the years.

My story with this album is rather unique. In November 1995 I went to Progfest ‘95 and while hanging around and meeting some of the performers I got to spend time with Pendragon as they were the headliners for Sunday’s finale.
Their keyboard player Clive Nolan was very kind and accessible and we talked a lot. He even listened to a demo of my original music and out of the blue he asked me if I heard Arena yet and I hadn’t. So he says wait here I’ll be back and returns handing me an autographed Arena cd and says here ya go enjoy.

Nice request. Neo Prog has that theatrical flavor, huh? Marillion and IQ comparisons are fitting. I can usually picture a storyline of maybe warriors coming over a hillside in solidarity - it can make for a soundtrack with the emotional lyrics and music. The guitars (and drums) are very gut-based and the keys/synth gives more mind/emotion vibes so it captures the whole person, especially with the lyrics “Stand up, stand up …” It can almost be a rallying anthem.

This brings back good memories… I bought the CD blindly in 1995 because Mick Pointer, the first drummer of Marillion and especially Clive Nolan, whom I have already known and from Pendragon, founded the band. Already during the first track of the album I was totally captivated by the music. For me as a big fan of neo-progressive rock, the band is still an absolute main prize today. You should definitely check Pendragon. My first album was „The World“ (1991) almost 30 years ago. Pendragon, like IQ, are still active and continue to make first-class music. By the way: I love your reactions!

Unfortunately there have been many changes among the vocals.
Already with their second album there was a different singer and with their third also... I've lost count.
Their singer is now Damian Wilson, since 2020 I think.
My favorite album is 'The Visitor', a must listen!

Thanks Kai! And as always, N&L for making their channel different than most . . .
I do HOPE more of your subscribers try something "new" and discover new bands and genres like the few that are talking about in the comments.
I've known about Arena for years (yet again, another "Progulus" favorite, from listeners at the old Prog Internet Station), and I have 1 CD (that I 1st got as a promo from working at Tower Records), that sadly was REALLY . . . "boring" (and I don't say that very often), and was surprised at that because of the subject matter (lyrically) that I hoped would knock my socks off. But years later started hearing other albums, and found myself really enjoying each track. This one is MUCH more up-beat, and love the off-time of the drums, that made it very interesting. And the Vocalist MUCH more lively than the album I didn't like (the album "Immortal" from 2000). I can remember the album "Pepper's Ghost (2005)" was very popular on Progulus as well.
But this was really good, will have to look more into them. I HOPE more folks chime-in with more Progressive Rock and Prog Metal. I know "Pain of Salvation" for awhile was being suggested from some of your subscribers (you now have 4 CD's by them). And Devin Townsend Band/Devin Townsend Project as well :).
    - Thanks again Kai and Nick & Lex :D Keep the Prog flowing guys, old and new!

Arena is a great progressive band created by Mick Pointer (ex-first Marillion drummer) and Clive Nolan (Pendragon keyboardist). They created gorgeous albums over the years in a power prog-rock style. They have changed often the singer, the last one is Damian Wilson (another Wilson) who has been on heavy rock bands and Landmarq another great prog band.Try their album "The visitor". In my opinion, their best album. Happy you've reached to Arena. You could check Pendragon too (The masquerade overture, the best IMO), about the same kind more Genesisish like.

Musically, I love it. Vocally, it's a bit too "dramatic" for my taste, kinda reminding me of Christian rock. That's just my own view, of course, but I imagined people standing with their hands up and their eyes closed. That aside, the drums, keyboards and guitars are great. That's also my perception of Dream Theater, at times.
