Thank you. Very clear instructions - I do understand though that, with the "black zappers" it is imperative that the runner's code is entered first and only then the position token code. With the app it doesn't matter and, if you're sufficiently adept, the app will also scan both runner and position code at the same time (although, as a Luddite, my preference is to scan each separately to be sure).

I believe you are correct about the app not minding about which way round you scan. But I always scan athlete number first then finish position so I don't get into bad habits and get caught out if I have to use a "zapper".

My wife and I added the virual volunteer apps to our phones and to my wife's tablet, but none of them are able to scan. Wondering what we are doing wrong.. ?

We have not experienced anything like that ourselves. Make sure the phone gets a good focus on the token, you have need to vary the distance you hold it from the phone. Be care though, sometimes the app can be very sensitive indeed. The other week we had a report that the app was picking up the bar codes from tokens that had been scanned earlier and put in the bucket nearby.

@@mammothtechshow it is funny, but my phone has since started scanning and today it was actually used at a parkrun.
The trouble with parkruns in Canada is that the ED's get comfortable with the much smaller numbers and they are never preparing for what to do if the numbers increase dramatically. Everyone walks off randomly from the funnel and they come at their leasure to get scanned. There is a big problem with this if the runners forget to get scanned and go home with the tokens. Today was one such day, when we scanned, say the tenth finisher after the 40th one was done. I don't believe people should be walking off till both their barcodes and tokens are scanned and collected.
The poor shy young kid handing out the tokens could not keep pace with handing out the tokens, regularly dropping them as other runners ran past in the chute. He was not able to see which order the runners finished. I think the chute should be strictly used to keep runners in order till they are scanned.
I am supposed to be getting trained for our upcoming parkrun, but this is NOT the way I am going to allow things to be done.
Your thoughts on this would be appreciated, Thanks

That's good news. Maybe a recent update for the app cured the issue. Happy parkrunning!
