Jinbe is honestly my favorite character not counting Luffy, in terms of his overall personality. He's an exemplary person up there with uncle Iroh. You just can't help but respect him.
The moment when Nami says she can't hate him because he's a fishmen is beautiful. He realises that he did it. He did what Fisher Tiger wanted. Fishmen are not hated by at least one human, and a human that was opressed horribly by a fishman. He cries, probably remembers Fisher Tiger and i think that's when he knew he would accept if Luffy would ask him to join.
People, in conversation, overlook how hard that line goes because Brook's "no one plans for their own death, young lady," came right around the same time. They're on about the same level for me.
Jimbei is definitely underrated as a Straw Hat. His connection to Luffy and Nami is so cool. I love him as a Straw Hat and I’m happy to see him on the crew.

@@mikehorner5989 what the complete context is in my eyes that fishmen have been persecuted so much that some of them rebelled to extreme extent causing fishmen that wanted to just be accepted to be persecuted even more harshly, that caused people like Jinbe and fisher tiger to develop strong moral codes as to not cause more of fishmen to be persecuted. When Jinbe apologized to Nami he apologized for his own failing, Nami acknowledged that and said that he has nothing to apologize for because Arlong caused her misfortune not Jinbe and if he feels like he needs to apologize she goes with her captains gut and accepts, at least that's my interpretation
NGL since Oda didn't make the fight between Aokiji and Akainu on page, chances are them meeting would be an epilogue that's like a single panel. IDK how reunions are gonna even go.

Jinbe, Iroh, and Mumen Rider walked into a teahouse. They all had a wonderful time and everybody's days were made better because of these honorable lads.
Jinbe’s respect for luffy is charming and also funny. Jinbe’s a former warlord, years of experience, a genuine threat, yet he looks at luffy, lovable goof ball he is, and wishes to be on his crew. He sees what a lot of others see, luffy has a one of kind spirit and charisma that can’t help but draw people in. Seeing luffy so happy he jumped and gave jinbe a hug when he came back (officially) was so wholesome like he has another father figure
Luffy hugging Jinbei made me tear up. I love their bond! Luffy has father figures, but Jinbei is the one that stays and I love that. The fact that he is now enjoying life after one full of pessimism and hatred is beautiful. I also love how appreciative he is of the Sunny and how much joy he gets from steering it. It seems so so simple for a pirate or sailor and yet, he probably hasn't been able to fully enjoy sailing in a long time if ever.
It’s insane to me how every straw hat is lovable. Each are fleshed out, each have had amazing fights and stand out moments. Jinbei was such a phenomenal addition, and I’m so happy!
I'm a karateka, so I naturally gravitate towards martial artists in manga, but even as people criticised him for being a bad character and a bad fit for the Straw Hats, I could see what was going on - Oda essentially built Jinbe "backwards", giving us his major conflicts and backstory before he's even really asked to join the crew, so even if he's absent for most of the time due to the Big Mom-related issues, he's basically already carved his place in the crew by the time he finally joins them in full.
If you like martial artist type characters you should check out Undead Unluck. Quite a few prominent martial artist type characters. I'm also happy to say I wasn't one of those people that thought he'd be a bad fit and you're right. Jinbe was kinda written backwards. The problems he faces was already resolved by the time he joined. Jinbe was always the type to think of others before himself, similar to Vivi and now that he didn't have the burden on his shoulders anymore he mellowed out.
Jimbei is someone who can think calmly about a situation and bring stability to other characters. Even for someone like Big Mom, he was able to ease her hunger pains before telling her that he's leaving her crew.
Agreed, and big mom also sees this, that's why she doesn't want Jimbe to leave bc he's too big of an asset to her and would lose a lot for leaving her crew.
It would make him so happy to see her doing well, their close to a pair of brothers that need more time together as well 😊 can't see why the reunion shouldn't happen
The thing with Jinbe that I love the most, is the connections and similarities he shares with many of the strawhats. Like Brook, he shoulders an entire world's worth of burdens on his shoulder, both him and Chopper have suffered at the hands of humans, Franky and Jinbe hated pirates and were jaded by the brutality of the world government, Zoro and Jinbe's determination to push through grief via their love for their captain and the ones who spurned them on, the love and acceptance from Nami which, by the way, is a MASSIVE stepping stone. She could have blamed him, hated him, PUNCHED HIM and he would have accepted it. But she forgave and she loved him because of his kindness and loyalty to Luffy. And then there's Sanji, and both of these guys are willing to risk EVERYTHING, putting their life on the line to prove themselves and live up to their aspirations. Luffy truly is the Pirate King, and Jinbe will forever be the Helmsman of the Thousand Sunny. I personally would love to see you cover a Blackbeard video next and the mirrors between him and Luffy.
Jinbe is one of my favorite characters in general, he’s so powerful and serious but the moment he’s with the straw hats he’s a stress dad trying to keep his kids safe. The scene of him telling the Sun Pirates about Luffy is so adorable! The way they made him realise that he has already adopted Luffy is hilarious, and honestly I couldn’t help to tear up a little. I honestly wasn’t expecting to love him so much when I started the show, but now he has his own little special place in my heart with Brook
Jinbie is hardcore husband material. The dad the ship desperately needed. I love how he bonds with Robin, and really hope that he and Usopp can get their own moments.
Jinbe the dad who left for smokes then came back with milk then dipped for eggs and once more for sugar only to finally stay to make his kid(s) a cake. Best pirate dad of the seas
Jinbei is an amazing character. He is probably the closest thing to am actual tactician and strategist the Strawhats have, and is probably one of the few people Luffy will actually listen to, even if he already has his mind and heart set on doing the opposite. His resolve and steadfastness are unparalleled (the man stood his ground against the full might of Big Mom and called her a "mere emperor of the sea" to her face with not an ounce of fear or doubt). But I think the thing I love about him the most is that he is still incredibly humble and open to new things. And this is played up to hillarious effect when he takes on the role of the most "junior" member of the Strawhats, deferring completely to how the rest of the crew "does things" and trying to take that to heart when, first, this man has more experience being a pirate that probably the rest of the Strawhats combined, except Brook, and second the way the Strawhats "do things" is pretty much barely directed (not even controlled) chaos and just flying by the collective seat of their pants. Watching him see the Strawhats do something just bonkers and Jimbei going "well, that's really odd, but if that's the way they do it on thus crew then I'll strive to do just that," especially when Robin, being the absolute troll that she is, just affirms it, is pretty much comedic gold.
Jimbe crying as he thanks nami still gets me every fucking time. Cant even imagine the weight he felt lift off his shoulders. Easily in my top 5 favorite characters and Im so happy he's a strawhat.
Everything about Jinbei and Luffy's relationship is incredible, but the image of Luffy hugging onto Jinbei's side with the biggest grin and Jinbei grinning *back* ? Fuck dude, it's too cute, it's too wholesome, I am GOING to scream and cry and explode
Jinbe has been my all-time favorite One Piece character since Chapter 590 with the "What do you still have" speech. It makes me cry every time. No moment will ever top that for me. And only Jibe could've shaken Luffy out of his extreme sadness like that. It's because of Jinbe that we still have a story.
He deserves that praise that scene would only be beat out for me almost 300 chapters later by the mere emperor moment, both are for the sake of Luffy at very different times he has meany great scenes ❤

Once we are out of this chaotic apocalyptic whatever it is right now that we are in, I want to see more interactions between Jinbe and the rest of the crew especially Zoro and Sanji. Dude is so chill and constantly has this calm vibe surrounding him.
Words cant describe how much I adore Jinbe. "The mature one" is usually not the character I typically fall for but Jinbe simply has this charm about him I simply can't resist- I loved him from first sight (because yes he's a big blue fish dilf how can you NOT love him). But watching him through Fishman Island and THEN his speech at WCI is just... UGH I CAN'T!! He's just so cool and his development has been such a ride. Oda kept edging us with Jinbe joining the crew, but when he finally joined I screamed in joy.
Jinbei is my dude. His blood running through Luffy's veins is literally my favorite bit of symbolism in the whole series. I can't watch any of those scenes without crying lol. Forreal Fishman Island is mad underrated, the backstory of the Fishman people means so much to the entire plot of this series. Fisher Tiger is next only to Joy Boy and Roger as far as long gone heroes of this world.
Jinbe... This fishy Boii has a really deep impact on me. When i was still watching the anime (swapped to manga after Fishman Island) and Jinbe was first shown in Impel Down, i was instantly in love. This big boy became my favourite character in the moment where he called the whalesharks and as i grew older and matured I understood his motives and values. I fell in love even more. The moment on Fishman Island, where he fought Luffy and told him that one day he would join the crew, i felt a tear dropping from my eye. I love this big boy so much. I was so incredibly happy, when he finally greeted the crew as a full fleshed out member of the strawhats. His loyalty to his friends, his sense of duty, his goddamn beauty on the inside and outside. If every person had a Jinbe as his friend, this world would be a better place.
Iroh and Jimbe would great tea friends . I would sit there and listen for hours just for there wisdom and compassion listening to conversations would just be awesome.
Jimbe is honestly my favorite Staw Hat right now. The way hes come to take the Dad spot of the crew along with his Egghead design. This guy just exists and I love it.
Jinbe is like the wise honorable father figure of the crew. He always keeps his word and has sacrificed much of his life for the sake of others. His former crew knew that and respected him immensely and when he wanted to join the Straw Hats they encouraged him to do so. The symbolism of his blood running through Luffy's veins really cemented his bond with Luffy. And that no matter our differences we all bleed the same blood. Jinbe has been in my top 5 favorite One Piece characters forever. Can't think of one negative thing about him. Oda really flexed his writing genius once again with Jinbe.
It's good to see some appreciation coming towards Fishmen Island. It's one of my favorite arcs, not because of the fights, but because of the themes it tacles . Jinbei's apology to Nami is my favorite moment in the series
It's not often that I almost cry before the ad break lmao. Your words about a story not being written in your adulthood really stuck with me. Jinbe is my pick for Underrated Fave. He doesn't get a lot of attention in the fandom but to me he's definitively earned his place as the Third Wing of the Pirate King. Plus I deeply respect that Oda waited this long to introduce the crew's Straight Man.

Having been though grief and guilt, I have always loved him. To the point that seeing again that moment with Nami has brought me to tears. A wonderfully written character that acts with simplicity and humility in front of every situation and makes someone that has struggled with loss, guilt and isolation feels represented.
My favorite character in the series, I’ve been waiting for this video for quite some time and it didn’t disappoint. His relationship with luffy is what sold me the character he is, him being so willing to go this far for luffy was amazing and his sense of honour was just the icing on the cake.Despite him not even being the “protagonist” of his own flashback (fisher tiger is) you can feel how deeply he’s affected and I really cannot wait to see him reunite with Koala. His speech for luffy is also one of favorite speech in all anime/manga so that definitely helps given how much that can be related to our life, not just in terms of the death of someone dear but in our accomplishments and failures
🥲 almost 1100 chapters and the hardest I ever cried for this damn story was his speech for Luffy, more 3 complete arcs together and the knowledge we get the final saga with him permanently there I can happily say those scenes together have made my top 2 favorite characters ❤
I completely forgot the amount of times Jimbei got mentioned over the series before his reveal. When Marinford came around was when I realized he existed but after watching this video, he’s been subtly built up since the beginning. Amazing video! ❤
I always liked Jimbe from when we first meet him in Impel Down, because he quickly proved to be one of the realest dudes in the entire series. The fact that one of the first things Jimbe does when he meets Nami is make it clear to her on no uncertain terms that he accepts full responsibility for Arlong and the things he did was what had made him one of my favorites.

As a man in his 30s I really connected with Jimbe. I've made mistakes, been hateful, lost loved ones, and have feltI have no hope and wanted to give up like Luffy did after losing Ace. Hearing him ask Luffy what he has left reminds me of scripture where it says to "count your blessings" has helped me a lot and I've grown much. Now as a father I feel closer to passing on similar teachings to my own children.

I started reading the One Piece manga and watching the anime at the start of this year, and for months and months I've searched for some channel that did what I wanted to see - in depth character analysis. One Piece is the most diverse, well-rounded media I've ever seen. And your videos helped me to love it more. The way you encapsulated each StrawHat Journey in each of your videos is pure gold. I think considering the rest of the star hats is still actively in survival mood because of trauma or have only recently started healing, they might not have been able to console Luffy when he needed it. It was such a complex situation because Luffy is suuuuch a strong person, emotionally and mentally as well a physically. And all of the straw hats have leaned on Luffy and he’s always been a pillar of strong support. But when a person like that goes through something so heartbreaking and ends up so completely broken … people don’t know what to do with that. Some people don’t even try to help? But I know the straw hats would help but they wouldn’t have been able to comfort and console him like he needed. The perfection of Jinbe being there is that he’s older wiser and incredibly mature in emotional ways. He can fully understand the depth of Luffys pain and figures out what he needs and becomes his pillar of support. So heartbreaking but so perfect 🥹
YES!!! THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A FANTASY RACE!!!! This story absolutely resonated with me as a black person in a system and a country built on black suffering. It so often feels like there is no hope for us; we can’t change the system from the inside, racism is how the world works, and we still have hope beyond this. Jinbe still has hope even after learning the same things we have had to, he still believes in change. He doesn’t spare humans to be a model minority he does it because he knows its the right thing and he will do the right thing. For me personally Fisher Tiger's death is one of the most tragic in the series and one that hit me really hard. The way humans' oppression and mistreatment had poisoned his heart so much to the point where he cries over the fact that he can't help but hate humans even though he so badly doesn't want to be a person filled with hatred like that. And he dies because of it. But he still does everything he can to avoid poisoning other fishmen the way he was poisoned, because he knows how much that sort of hatred will harm people. It gets to me every time. Fishman Island is SO much better than people give it credit for. It's got so much nuance and is such a fascinating exploration of the cycle of hatred and racism and intergenerational trauma. Hody himself is such a great villain because of how empty he is as a person, because of what he represents. I could write a whole-ass essay on Fishman Island and what Hody symbolizes.
Jinbei fans are built solid, we don't need him to be the strongest or the greatest. We just accept that Jinbei is him, loyal af, and the awesome grandpa we need
From the moment Jinbe was introduced, he was a home run with the fans but what really sold me on him joining the Straw hats was the moment Ace died and Luffy’s mind collapsed into despair. Jinbe immediately went into protection mode and fought tooth and nail, nearly dying in the process of getting Luffy out and away from the Battle of Marineford. He did all of that for someone he hardly knew but he did it anyway with no regard for himself. Completely selfless and a worthy addition to the Straw Hats.
Jinbe is easily one of my favourite characters in One Piece. The chapter where he finally joined the crew for good I had a painfully big smile on ny face. His shape is so unbelievably huggable and his personality is so great.
Jinbei was Luffy's knight in shining armour during Marineford and he delivered a reality check that hit harder than any physical attack. I can see a possible clash between him and Sanji it'll definitely be interesting to see the chemistry between the two.
Jinbei IS a top 5 character. I have so much admiration for his character. Honestly I teared up a little watching this, especially the Nami part. Just so deep and thought provoking.
When Jinbe officially announces he is joining the Straw Hats, I can't help but watch in awe with all the other crews reacting how Jinbe joining another crew is such a big deal. Definitely one of my favorites even before joining the crew!
I love every single thing about Jimbei. Not that I would ever see it, but I could never stand for even the slightest Jimbei disrespect. He is such an incredibly lovable character, both in his design, and how he's written. There's just something about the way he carries himself, the way he laughs, the way he talks, everything. Easily a top 5 character in One Piece. And I can feel my lifespan extend every time he laughs. What a hearty laugh.
I saw Jinbei disrespect on tiktok some time ago, claiming that with how often he switched crews that he would leave the strawhats if a better opportunity arose. I told that person that they'd been watching One Piece with their eyes closed and their ears plugged, that Jinbei has done nothing but try and make the best possible decisions and hasn't betrayed or disrespected any of the crews he's been in. Jinbei is awesome and anyone that says otherwise has the emotional intelligence of a rock and the media literacy of a flea.
I like the recurring one piece trope that some of the straw hats have figures that helped build their personality that they may have the chance to reunite with and it will make the fanbase cry tears of joy. Luffy has Shanks, Jinbe has Koala, Brook has Laboon, you could even argue that Franky has Señor pink.
When my father suddenly died during the pandemic and everything was ruined in my family, my only "way through" this agony was just Jimbei's words. Can you believe it? That I managed to go through my father's death just by adopting a few words from a fictional character? Neither could I, when I realised that nobody was there for me, not even my closest friends. Nobody could travel and visit me to provide a helping hand through these very hard times. But this blue shark was there and helped me. I literally owe him everything, and especially the man I became after this life-altering event. Who knows? Perhaps I would have given up my dream to become a scientist and never got admitted in my PhD... But again Jimbei was there and helped me. Thanks for this awesome tribute to the most honorable character in One Piece.
Jinbei is one of the characters that received hate that I just never saw. He is incredible in both his actions and his belief in Luffy. I knew he was a SH as soon as he said he would meet up with Luffy again.
You made me cry once again with Fisher Tiger's backstory. Jinbei is so full of love! Because love is a constant exercise. He chooses to love and to be kind everyday, even after being hurt so many times. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there like he does.
What a beautiful analysis on such an underrated character. I love Jinbei with all my heart (as well as all the strawhats, they're my favorite characters in the series without a doubt) and his story makes me so emotional, like Captain America's ending in Endgame or Spiderman in many of his stories, but even harder cuz it's One Piece and One piece is my drug of choice. He's the noble warrior that dedicates his entire life and existence to others, to protect and defend the innocent, to justice and freedom, but in the process shackles himself and denies himself of his own happiness, who puts his dreams aside for the sake of others, who even give's up on love for it, to see him finally have the chance to live for himself and to be happy, even tho he's so god damm noble that everyone around him, all the people he was fighting for, actually had to insist to him to do it for like 75 arcs. I know people like that, they're so noble that they take too many burdens upon their shoulders, they give up on their lives to take care of everyone else, when they, more than anyone else in the world, deserve to be happy and to pursue their dreams, to focus on themselves and their own happiness as well. That to me is such a beautiful and underrated lesson Jinbei teaches us. I love finding new One Piece creators on youtube with these types of analysis, it's so great to see so many amazing and different perspectives on this beautiful series and it's so fun to be able to talk about my favorite story ever. Jimbei is my all time favorite straw hat. Even above Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. He's got impeccable vibes, he's a fantastic supporting character, and he doesn't need a huge character arc since he's coming out of retirement as an adventurer, rather than setting off on his journey of self-discovery like most of the crew. He's got great chemistry with Robin, he's totally the dad of the crew, and he's genuinely powerful without overshadowing the crew. I just love this big blue sumo shark

My favorite Straw Hat flipped often for a long time between Luffy and Usopp. That changed when Jinbe joined the crew. The moment that got me was when he was the only person that stayed behind to eat the restaurant owners fancy Wano cooking while everyone else was out partying at the festival. It was such a small moment but it made me realize just how kind he really is. In hindsight it might also have been him getting to do something that most fishmen aren't privileged enough to do but I don't care, he's a still kindhearted fish uncle and I love him ❤ And yes, him being hot also helps.
I loved Jinbei with Luffy after Ace’s death. I lost most of my family pretty young and remembering what I did have and being grateful for it helped me so much to heal rather than get lost in grief. ❤

jinbe has been my favorite character since his support for luffy after marineford. i have his iconic "dont focus on what youve lost, count what you still have" tattooed on me because of how much it struck me when i read it and the relevance its had in my life since. i cried my eyes out when he volunteered to donate his blood for luffy at the end of fishman island and once again when he finally joined up with the crew in wano (reading the manga weekly at that point mind you) i absolutely love love him and i love love this analysis youve done of him
I really loved when Luffy asked him to join his crew, coz Luffy had by then known Jinbe for a long time, and known his as self-powerful, even a Captain, but when Luffy learned who he really is, when Luffy saw him as an equal, is when he asked him to join the crew, and that again retroactively enforces how powerful his connection to his crew really is (edit) Luffy doesn't ask you to join his crew because of what you are, but because of who you are (except for Brook, but that worked itself out). He has always seen each of his crew as his equals, not his minions

While he was never a character where I went "OH MY GOD IT'S JINBE YESSSS!!", it's just once you realize how many amazing things he did and what impactful, hard decisions he made without ever seeking any recognition... that you realize how much of an amazing character he is. I don't mean to self flatter, but I think anyone liking Jinbe just has to be a sign that they're a thoughtful person. Simply because the great things about Jinbe seem to be delibarately made so they can vanish in the background and always presented in a time where they quickly get overshadowed. You have to REALLY look at him to get why he's such a cool character. And if you do, there's a lot to find.
I remember excitedly reading the chapter Luffy asks Jinbe to join, only for next week to be saddened I would have to wait. Took hundreds of chapter and so many years, but it was worth the wait. I would say I'm still a major Jinbestan, and he's one of the best additions to the crew, definitely one of my top SH crew members. I think an interesting point of discussion is his relationship to Sanji. All their moments are brief, but I find it interesting Sanji has a bit of a harsher outlook towards him, even if it's played often for comedy. Even without Nami being involved, it's been observed, and it's played up again when his bounty is higher than Sanji's. Given how Jinbe is supposed to be the true patriarchal dad figure of the Straw HT crew per Oda's words, and Sanji's habit of butting heads with both his adoptive and biological fathers, it can even point to his brashness coming off as a weird sort of acceptance. Either way, I definitely want more and more moments between him and the other crew members. He deserves his time to shine with them.
I'd love to see a full description/analysis of Fishman Island as an arc. Many people see it as Oda showing how strong the Straw Hats are but there's a super interesting Martin Luther King/Malcom X relationship/allegory shown through Otohime and Fisher Tiger. Not to mention it was great for Jimbei's character plus the Celestial Dragon who is shown kindness from the fishmen and ends up being more humble as a result, even knocking Saint Charlos on his ass in one of the most satisfying moments in One Piece History. I'd love to see a full video about all of it, it's an underrated arc

When Jinbe apologized to Nami he apologized for his own failing, Nami acknowledged that and said that he has nothing to apologize for because Arlong caused her misfortune not Jinbe and if he feels like he needs to apologize she goes with her captains gut and accepts, at least that's my interpretation

Jinbe’s respect for luffy is charming and also funny. Jinbe’s a former warlord, years of experience, a genuine threat, yet he looks at luffy, lovable goof ball he is, and wishes to be on his crew. He sees what a lot of others see, luffy has a one of kind spirit and charisma that can’t help but draw people in. Seeing luffy so happy he jumped and gave jinbe a hug when he came back (officially) was so wholesome like he has another father figure
Luffy hugging Jinbei made me tear up. I love their bond! Luffy has father figures, but Jinbei is the one that stays and I love that. The fact that he is now enjoying life after one full of pessimism and hatred is beautiful. I also love how appreciative he is of the Sunny and how much joy he gets from steering it. It seems so so simple for a pirate or sailor and yet, he probably hasn't been able to fully enjoy sailing in a long time if ever.

I'm a karateka, so I naturally gravitate towards martial artists in manga, but even as people criticised him for being a bad character and a bad fit for the Straw Hats, I could see what was going on - Oda essentially built Jinbe "backwards", giving us his major conflicts and backstory before he's even really asked to join the crew, so even if he's absent for most of the time due to the Big Mom-related issues, he's basically already carved his place in the crew by the time he finally joins them in full.

If you like martial artist type characters you should check out Undead Unluck. Quite a few prominent martial artist type characters. I'm also happy to say I wasn't one of those people that thought he'd be a bad fit and you're right. Jinbe was kinda written backwards. The problems he faces was already resolved by the time he joined. Jinbe was always the type to think of others before himself, similar to Vivi and now that he didn't have the burden on his shoulders anymore he mellowed out.
Jimbei is someone who can think calmly about a situation and bring stability to other characters.
Even for someone like Big Mom, he was able to ease her hunger pains before telling her that he's leaving her crew.

The thing with Jinbe that I love the most, is the connections and similarities he shares with many of the strawhats. Like Brook, he shoulders an entire world's worth of burdens on his shoulder, both him and Chopper have suffered at the hands of humans, Franky and Jinbe hated pirates and were jaded by the brutality of the world government, Zoro and Jinbe's determination to push through grief via their love for their captain and the ones who spurned them on, the love and acceptance from Nami which, by the way, is a MASSIVE stepping stone. She could have blamed him, hated him, PUNCHED HIM and he would have accepted it. But she forgave and she loved him because of his kindness and loyalty to Luffy. And then there's Sanji, and both of these guys are willing to risk EVERYTHING, putting their life on the line to prove themselves and live up to their aspirations. Luffy truly is the Pirate King, and Jinbe will forever be the Helmsman of the Thousand Sunny.

Jinbe is one of my favorite characters in general, he’s so powerful and serious but the moment he’s with the straw hats he’s a stress dad trying to keep his kids safe. The scene of him telling the Sun Pirates about Luffy is so adorable! The way they made him realise that he has already adopted Luffy is hilarious, and honestly I couldn’t help to tear up a little.

Jinbei is an amazing character. He is probably the closest thing to am actual tactician and strategist the Strawhats have, and is probably one of the few people Luffy will actually listen to, even if he already has his mind and heart set on doing the opposite. His resolve and steadfastness are unparalleled (the man stood his ground against the full might of Big Mom and called her a "mere emperor of the sea" to her face with not an ounce of fear or doubt).
But I think the thing I love about him the most is that he is still incredibly humble and open to new things. And this is played up to hillarious effect when he takes on the role of the most "junior" member of the Strawhats, deferring completely to how the rest of the crew "does things" and trying to take that to heart when, first, this man has more experience being a pirate that probably the rest of the Strawhats combined, except Brook, and second the way the Strawhats "do things" is pretty much barely directed (not even controlled) chaos and just flying by the collective seat of their pants. Watching him see the Strawhats do something just bonkers and Jimbei going "well, that's really odd, but if that's the way they do it on thus crew then I'll strive to do just that," especially when Robin, being the absolute troll that she is, just affirms it, is pretty much comedic gold.

Jinbe has been my all-time favorite One Piece character since Chapter 590 with the "What do you still have" speech. It makes me cry every time. No moment will ever top that for me. And only Jibe could've shaken Luffy out of his extreme sadness like that. It's because of Jinbe that we still have a story.

Once we are out of this chaotic apocalyptic whatever it is right now that we are in, I want to see more interactions between Jinbe and the rest of the crew especially Zoro and Sanji. Dude is so chill and constantly has this calm vibe surrounding him.
Words cant describe how much I adore Jinbe. "The mature one" is usually not the character I typically fall for but Jinbe simply has this charm about him I simply can't resist- I loved him from first sight (because yes he's a big blue fish dilf how can you NOT love him). But watching him through Fishman Island and THEN his speech at WCI is just... UGH I CAN'T!! He's just so cool and his development has been such a ride. Oda kept edging us with Jinbe joining the crew, but when he finally joined I screamed in joy.
Jinbei is my dude. His blood running through Luffy's veins is literally my favorite bit of symbolism in the whole series. I can't watch any of those scenes without crying lol. Forreal Fishman Island is mad underrated, the backstory of the Fishman people means so much to the entire plot of this series. Fisher Tiger is next only to Joy Boy and Roger as far as long gone heroes of this world.
Jinbe... This fishy Boii has a really deep impact on me. When i was still watching the anime (swapped to manga after Fishman Island) and Jinbe was first shown in Impel Down, i was instantly in love. This big boy became my favourite character in the moment where he called the whalesharks and as i grew older and matured I understood his motives and values. I fell in love even more. The moment on Fishman Island, where he fought Luffy and told him that one day he would join the crew, i felt a tear dropping from my eye. I love this big boy so much. I was so incredibly happy, when he finally greeted the crew as a full fleshed out member of the strawhats. His loyalty to his friends, his sense of duty, his goddamn beauty on the inside and outside. If every person had a Jinbe as his friend, this world would be a better place.
Iroh and Jimbe would great tea friends . I would sit there and listen for hours just for there wisdom and compassion listening to conversations would just be awesome.
Jimbe is honestly my favorite Staw Hat right now. The way hes come to take the Dad spot of the crew along with his Egghead design. This guy just exists and I love it.
Jinbe is like the wise honorable father figure of the crew. He always keeps his word and has sacrificed much of his life for the sake of others. His former crew knew that and respected him immensely and when he wanted to join the Straw Hats they encouraged him to do so. The symbolism of his blood running through Luffy's veins really cemented his bond with Luffy. And that no matter our differences we all bleed the same blood. Jinbe has been in my top 5 favorite One Piece characters forever. Can't think of one negative thing about him. Oda really flexed his writing genius once again with Jinbe.

My favorite character in the series, I’ve been waiting for this video for quite some time and it didn’t disappoint. His relationship with luffy is what sold me the character he is, him being so willing to go this far for luffy was amazing and his sense of honour was just the icing on the cake.Despite him not even being the “protagonist” of his own flashback (fisher tiger is) you can feel how deeply he’s affected and I really cannot wait to see him reunite with Koala. His speech for luffy is also one of favorite speech in all anime/manga so that definitely helps given how much that can be related to our life, not just in terms of the death of someone dear but in our accomplishments and failures
🥲 almost 1100 chapters and the hardest I ever cried for this damn story was his speech for Luffy, more 3 complete arcs together and the knowledge we get the final saga with him permanently there I can happily say those scenes together have made my top 2 favorite characters ❤

I always liked Jimbe from when we first meet him in Impel Down, because he quickly proved to be one of the realest dudes in the entire series. The fact that one of the first things Jimbe does when he meets Nami is make it clear to her on no uncertain terms that he accepts full responsibility for Arlong and the things he did was what had made him one of my favorites.

As a man in his 30s I really connected with Jimbe. I've made mistakes, been hateful, lost loved ones, and have feltI have no hope and wanted to give up like Luffy did after losing Ace. Hearing him ask Luffy what he has left reminds me of scripture where it says to "count your blessings" has helped me a lot and I've grown much. Now as a father I feel closer to passing on similar teachings to my own children.
Jinbei is the uncle you always want to have and he'll always have your back. A bit of tough love but he loves you very much.

I think considering the rest of the star hats is still actively in survival mood because of trauma or have only recently started healing, they might not have been able to console Luffy when he needed it. It was such a complex situation because Luffy is suuuuch a strong person, emotionally and mentally as well a physically. And all of the straw hats have leaned on Luffy and he’s always been a pillar of strong support. But when a person like that goes through something so heartbreaking and ends up so completely broken … people don’t know what to do with that. Some people don’t even try to help? But I know the straw hats would help but they wouldn’t have been able to comfort and console him like he needed. The perfection of Jinbe being there is that he’s older wiser and incredibly mature in emotional ways. He can fully understand the depth of Luffys pain and figures out what he needs and becomes his pillar of support. So heartbreaking but so perfect 🥹

For me personally Fisher Tiger's death is one of the most tragic in the series and one that hit me really hard. The way humans' oppression and mistreatment had poisoned his heart so much to the point where he cries over the fact that he can't help but hate humans even though he so badly doesn't want to be a person filled with hatred like that. And he dies because of it. But he still does everything he can to avoid poisoning other fishmen the way he was poisoned, because he knows how much that sort of hatred will harm people. It gets to me every time. Fishman Island is SO much better than people give it credit for. It's got so much nuance and is such a fascinating exploration of the cycle of hatred and racism and intergenerational trauma. Hody himself is such a great villain because of how empty he is as a person, because of what he represents. I could write a whole-ass essay on Fishman Island and what Hody symbolizes.
Jinbei fans are built solid, we don't need him to be the strongest or the greatest. We just accept that Jinbei is him, loyal af, and the awesome grandpa we need
From the moment Jinbe was introduced, he was a home run with the fans but what really sold me on him joining the Straw hats was the moment Ace died and Luffy’s mind collapsed into despair. Jinbe immediately went into protection mode and fought tooth and nail, nearly dying in the process of getting Luffy out and away from the Battle of Marineford. He did all of that for someone he hardly knew but he did it anyway with no regard for himself. Completely selfless and a worthy addition to the Straw Hats.

Jinbei IS a top 5 character. I have so much admiration for his character. Honestly I teared up a little watching this, especially the Nami part. Just so deep and thought provoking.
"I still have my friends!" is probably my favourite scene in the whole show.
When Jinbe officially announces he is joining the Straw Hats, I can't help but watch in awe with all the other crews reacting how Jinbe joining another crew is such a big deal. Definitely one of my favorites even before joining the crew!

I saw Jinbei disrespect on tiktok some time ago, claiming that with how often he switched crews that he would leave the strawhats if a better opportunity arose. I told that person that they'd been watching One Piece with their eyes closed and their ears plugged, that Jinbei has done nothing but try and make the best possible decisions and hasn't betrayed or disrespected any of the crews he's been in. Jinbei is awesome and anyone that says otherwise has the emotional intelligence of a rock and the media literacy of a flea.

I like the recurring one piece trope that some of the straw hats have figures that helped build their personality that they may have the chance to reunite with and it will make the fanbase cry tears of joy. Luffy has Shanks, Jinbe has Koala, Brook has Laboon, you could even argue that Franky has Señor pink.
Jimbei's relationship with Luffy is SO good. I really hope Jimbei and Koala will meet again.
When my father suddenly died during the pandemic and everything was ruined in my family, my only "way through" this agony was just Jimbei's words. Can you believe it? That I managed to go through my father's death just by adopting a few words from a fictional character? Neither could I, when I realised that nobody was there for me, not even my closest friends. Nobody could travel and visit me to provide a helping hand through these very hard times. But this blue shark was there and helped me. I literally owe him everything, and especially the man I became after this life-altering event. Who knows? Perhaps I would have given up my dream to become a scientist and never got admitted in my PhD... But again Jimbei was there and helped me. Thanks for this awesome tribute to the most honorable character in One Piece.
Jinbei is one of the characters that received hate that I just never saw. He is incredible in both his actions and his belief in Luffy. I knew he was a SH as soon as he said he would meet up with Luffy again.
You made me cry once again with Fisher Tiger's backstory. Jinbei is so full of love! Because love is a constant exercise. He chooses to love and to be kind everyday, even after being hurt so many times. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there like he does.
What a beautiful analysis on such an underrated character. I love Jinbei with all my heart (as well as all the strawhats, they're my favorite characters in the series without a doubt) and his story makes me so emotional, like Captain America's ending in Endgame or Spiderman in many of his stories, but even harder cuz it's One Piece and One piece is my drug of choice. He's the noble warrior that dedicates his entire life and existence to others, to protect and defend the innocent, to justice and freedom, but in the process shackles himself and denies himself of his own happiness, who puts his dreams aside for the sake of others, who even give's up on love for it, to see him finally have the chance to live for himself and to be happy, even tho he's so god damm noble that everyone around him, all the people he was fighting for, actually had to insist to him to do it for like 75 arcs.
I know people like that, they're so noble that they take too many burdens upon their shoulders, they give up on their lives to take care of everyone else, when they, more than anyone else in the world, deserve to be happy and to pursue their dreams, to focus on themselves and their own happiness as well. That to me is such a beautiful and underrated lesson Jinbei teaches us.

Jimbei is my all time favorite straw hat. Even above Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.
He's got impeccable vibes, he's a fantastic supporting character, and he doesn't need a huge character arc since he's coming out of retirement as an adventurer, rather than setting off on his journey of self-discovery like most of the crew. He's got great chemistry with Robin, he's totally the dad of the crew, and he's genuinely powerful without overshadowing the crew.

My favorite Straw Hat flipped often for a long time between Luffy and Usopp. That changed when Jinbe joined the crew. The moment that got me was when he was the only person that stayed behind to eat the restaurant owners fancy Wano cooking while everyone else was out partying at the festival. It was such a small moment but it made me realize just how kind he really is. In hindsight it might also have been him getting to do something that most fishmen aren't privileged enough to do but I don't care, he's a still kindhearted fish uncle and I love him ❤
And yes, him being hot also helps.
I loved Jinbei with Luffy after Ace’s death. I lost most of my family pretty young and remembering what I did have and being grateful for it helped me so much to heal rather than get lost in grief. ❤

jinbe has been my favorite character since his support for luffy after marineford. i have his iconic "dont focus on what youve lost, count what you still have" tattooed on me because of how much it struck me when i read it and the relevance its had in my life since. i cried my eyes out when he volunteered to donate his blood for luffy at the end of fishman island and once again when he finally joined up with the crew in wano (reading the manga weekly at that point mind you) i absolutely love love him and i love love this analysis youve done of him

I really loved when Luffy asked him to join his crew, coz Luffy had by then known Jinbe for a long time, and known his as self-powerful, even a Captain, but when Luffy learned who he really is, when Luffy saw him as an equal, is when he asked him to join the crew, and that again retroactively enforces how powerful his connection to his crew really is
(edit) Luffy doesn't ask you to join his crew because of what you are, but because of who you are (except for Brook, but that worked itself out). He has always seen each of his crew as his equals, not his minions
I love Jinbei and I am grateful for the video! I'm glad you mentioned Koala because her backstory was the main reason I started One Piece, it appeared to me out of nowhere in TikTok. That, the Luffy/Roger dream scene in 1015 and my brother reading the Manga were the 3 reasons I started the series
Jinbe has risen to become potentially my favorite Strawhat, and maybe of the whole series. I really cant even say a specific reason why, hes just the whole package lol.

Jinbe really became my favourite Straw Hat. He's always just such a calm, collected, loyal, no-compromises chad. While he was never a character where I went "OH MY GOD IT'S JINBE YESSSS!!", it's just once you realize how many amazing things he did and what impactful, hard decisions he made without ever seeking any recognition... that you realize how much of an amazing character he is. I don't mean to self flatter, but I think anyone liking Jinbe just has to be a sign that they're a thoughtful person. Simply because the great things about Jinbe seem to be delibarately made so they can vanish in the background and always presented in a time where they quickly get overshadowed. You have to REALLY look at him to get why he's such a cool character. And if you do, there's a lot to find.
I remember excitedly reading the chapter Luffy asks Jinbe to join, only for next week to be saddened I would have to wait. Took hundreds of chapter and so many years, but it was worth the wait. I would say I'm still a major Jinbestan, and he's one of the best additions to the crew, definitely one of my top SH crew members. I think an interesting point of discussion is his relationship to Sanji. All their moments are brief, but I find it interesting Sanji has a bit of a harsher outlook towards him, even if it's played often for comedy. Even without Nami being involved, it's been observed, and it's played up again when his bounty is higher than Sanji's. Given how Jinbe is supposed to be the true patriarchal dad figure of the Straw HT crew per Oda's words, and Sanji's habit of butting heads with both his adoptive and biological fathers, it can even point to his brashness coming off as a weird sort of acceptance. Either way, I definitely want more and more moments between him and the other crew members. He deserves his time to shine with them.

I'd love to see a full description/analysis of Fishman Island as an arc. Many people see it as Oda showing how strong the Straw Hats are but there's a super interesting Martin Luther King/Malcom X relationship/allegory shown through Otohime and Fisher Tiger. Not to mention it was great for Jimbei's character plus the Celestial Dragon who is shown kindness from the fishmen and ends up being more humble as a result, even knocking Saint Charlos on his ass in one of the most satisfying moments in One Piece History. I'd love to see a full video about all of it, it's an underrated arc
