Great to have you back. I completely missed that article. I hope I still remember what is happening with the series when it restarts. Good point on the lack of deep strike, I thought this would have been a good one to have talked about as well as the Exodite. I really didn't see that origin story starting that way. I wonder if they will get off world at all.
Thanks! Maybe they’re filming the Deep Strikes in one go and we’ll see the Exodite and Interrogator ones pretty close together. I really enjoy them, although I know some people don’t. Getting off world would be good! Sadly, from the state of Jurgen, I don’t think he will last very long!
Happy belated birthday! Hope you enjoyed it. I'm not sure if you mentioned the prequel trailer to Angels of Death in a previous video, but I'm excited for that. It's good to know that Interogattor will be nine episodes at least, and that they didn't pull another Exodite. I thought there was supposed to be an Age of Sigmar H&B released this month though. Maybe I'm mistaken.
Thank you, I had a lovely time. I mentioned Origins in the Warhammer Fest video and, being honest, I forgot about it on my week off. It looks fine, but the facial animation still looks bad, plus it was out of sync with the audio in the trailer. Next animation will be the AoS one, but it’ll be early june. I’ll check to see when the roadmap had it in.
I honestly thought that the limit of Jurgen's Psyker powers was reading minds, so it was a bit jarring (but still cool) to see his prescience in action during the fire fight. You're right tho, it was also an ending that came a bit too suddenly, and it did get me wanting more. Maybe it's just my object permanence kicking it, but the switching of hosts in Loremasters really didn't sit well with me. You made the point of communication with Interrogator, and I feel the same way about Loremasters. I would have been fine with multiple hosts, had they communicated that beforehand (either from the start, or before the latest episode). It hit me less with Battle Report because I knew they would need a lot of different people to make games feel different each time, but even then it still felt a little weird when Nick wasn't on one or two of the episodes because I just got used to having him there. And I'm with you on the Verdigris episode. Going to check out Duncan's work to see how he handles it for sure.
It wasn’t immediately clear to me that he was using his powers, but that makes sense. I still have a lot of hope for Interrogator and it’s good that GW seem to have it all organised with the different acts etc. Maybe it’ll be a positive to have a break and see a different show in between. I can see how the host switching might bother you. It was the same with Masterclass - all of a sudden a new host popped up and apparently I should have known who he was! Introducing these people would surely be a good idea! I’m still not sure how the verdigris tutorials happened! I wonder if Duncan posted that his tutorial was in the works after he saw that the WH+ one was coming.
The verdigris is an interesting one - I notice that the Vindicare Assassin bonus model has a verdigrised bronze statue, wonder if that’s the tie in? I’m really enjoying Interrogator, I think you’re right though, it felt a weird/unnatural place to cut it off. Many happy returns from last week btw!
That’s a good shout on the statue. It was just weird that it was so synchronised. It just seemed a bit abrupt. If we had to wait for months I wouldn’t be happy. A few weeks is fine though. Thank you! Back to normality now.
Happy belated birthday, sir! Your comment about the Forge World book describing the use of airbrushes was interesting; I've been thinking similarly regarding the Master Class videos in that they heavily rely upon the use of a wet palette, yet GW don't make one or acknowledge them anywhere else in their other painting tutorials on UA-cam
Thank you! The wet palette thing is always strange too, you’re right. Could GW produce their own? Their own tools, with a few exceptions, tend to be a bit gimmicky, but a wet palette would always be needed. I’d buy into a system where you could buy different lids!
@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist I'd definitely buy some if they produced them! I know that Army Painter make one, and that there are various others available, but I do love having Citadel branded stuff on my painting desk I have to admit 😅
GW stepped in quick to point out that there's still two more acts to stave off disappointment, but after this first arc, they can take their time. I'm finding that getting a new episode biweekly really makes my interest wane - first I have to try to remember what happened last and where it left off, and then recall that the pattern it's taking is more straight line than arc. there's exposition, travel to the next location, more exposition, then some violence. It's weird to have something be both unmemorable and repetitive at the same time, but that's kinda what's happening. I'm going to keep watching, but after what's been done so far, I doubt I'll dwell on the episodes much longer than the time to view them...for me, they're not particularly engaging. A fair amount of that is Jurgen, who I just don't care about after 3 episodes of scowling and complaining. It's just getting repeating itself and boring. There are the requisite Emperor "_______" lines (this week Emperor forsaken planet and Emperor knows) too, more constant rain, and the indistinguishable black and white grimdark of the show - along with checking off the necessary inner Jurgen monologues and fight sequence per episode. I know that is a slight oversimplification, but the potential for what it could be versus what it is plays into it. That Saul Bass style opening title sequence would make for a killer, almost surreal show, and actually utilize the strength of animation. Instead, it's almost too much a noir trope template with 40k easter eggs and design thrown over it...I have not read Eisenhorn but from what I've heard of it, I imagine that's what it's supposed to be like in tone and setting - a more focused show in the 40K landscape without just being about bunch of Marines. Ultimately, I still can't get completely on board with what the Warhammer Storyforge team of writers is putting out here, and I don't know if it's still the group that functioned under that name for AoD (Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Nick Kyme, George Mann and Andy Smillie). Dembski-Bowden's Helreach is awesome, and got the literal translation for the R Boylan animated movie, which made sense why they reteamed for AoD, but I know nothing of the other guys work or if they're any good. Maybe it's unfair to compare W+ animation to better written, produced, and executed shows on tv and streaming, but the lack of an actual experienced show writer is hurting the shows, since books need adaptation to film and the small screen, and that authorial style isn't coming across optimally. And then there's Astartes, which told a whole goddamned story cleanly, clearly, and more concisely in the same amount of time as a typical W+ episode with zero dialogue. Perhaps it's not just about having folks who know how to tell stories specifically for screen, but omitting those who are used to the printed form. Barring an incredible reversal of storytelling fortune, I think I'm just going to treat the shows like the trailers and promo material they make - some cool scenes in the Warhammer setting, that on their own are nice visualizations but not coherent stories. And that's a shame because things like the Indomitus and Kill Team trailers are doing a better job of creating intriguing stories than these longer form W+ shows Oof. Okay, rant over. I think I've fully come to terms with my relationship with W+. Past the debate about content scheduling, past questioning the value, and past how GW created ill will in the lead up and launch. I will accept W+ for what it is, like it or not, love it or not, watch it or not. I'll check out more Vault items and try to take in more of the battle reports, lore, and painting even though the UA-cam content for free is superior (but ooooh, Louise you painting minx...much respect for your skills). And HBD, mate!
That certainly was a rant, but as usual a very good read. I’ve not given up on Interrogator just yet but all the points you made are very valid. I don’t know if it’s just that the noir style isn’t for me, but I don’t like a lot of it, especially the internal monologue. I suppose it’s a handy mechanism for exposition, but just serves to get on my nerves. As for the writing, I’m hoping it’s just a learning curve. I don’t care about the subscription fee, I’d pay a lot more for some real quality Warhammer shows. Even the shows that are great still have a lot of flaws (AoD with the bad sound design and dodgy facial animation) and Hammer & Bolter could be animated a lot better. Eisenhorn is a bit more James Bondish than Jurgen - he’s usually in control and at least has a plan. They’re great books and will hopefully translate to a cracking live action series. You’re in a good position as everything will be a surprise for you! The vault is honestly great. I used to buy a bunch of digital books just to read the lore and look at the pretty pictures, so it’s perfect for me. Louise is my favourite Masterclass painter by far! I know I’m harsh on Aidan Daly but other than the Avatar series his videos seem pretty rushed. Thanks for the birthday wishes!

I do too. A Redgrass games palette with a nice deep red Blood Angels lid would be perfect!
Good to get an update. Not had a chance to watch anything since I’ve been on holiday
Back now?

No. No. Noooo.
No deep strike. They will use that as a way to count as an “animation”.
Well, that’s true! 🤣
