I recently got into Warhammer, been just about a couple of months now. I've always known about it via osmosis in pop-culture and gaming but I never had any idea about what it's about. Needless to say, I fell in love. I'm a storyteller at heart and I've fallen in love with the lore, setting, and story/ies of 40K. But this also breaks my heart. I love the Grimdark genre (Berserk, GoT, TG, etc) but Games Workshop makes it impossible for me to satisfy my desire to dive deeper into this. I'm not into the table top aspect and outside of that and the books, there's scarce consumer material. Barely any films/animation that I would GLADLY pay for. Only a handful of genuine good games to play. My only genuine outlet right now are the books. I hope this Henry Cavill can catapult things a bit more so GW recognizes the visual/media value of this property. So many things in this verse need to be SEEN. There are so many descriptors of EPIC visuals that would lend amazingly to cinema!
I'm the same, it has always been a dream of mine to see (good) Space Marines on the big screen. 35 years on and I still haven't really had that. I do think it's slowly getting there, more people than ever know a bit about the 40K universe, so i'm hopeful that the Amazon series will push it over the top. I had hopes for WH+, but who knows what is happening there? Big promises have been made and all have been broken (an animated episode every other week) and I guess the Amazon stuff has put a halt to a lot of stuff that was meant to come. Haha! I was watching to the end thinking "He's forgotten the apps!" 😂😂😂 As I've said throughout the year, the apps were my primary reason for subbing to WH+. After using them for months before the service launched and ever since, I have to rate them a 'C'. One of my many jobs as a contractor in IT is testing websites and apps. I don't know who does their testing, but they are not earning their salary. To give a few examples; - the app crashes regularly - unit rules are frequently buggy (it took well over a year for me to have an "app legal" squad of 10 Plague Marines for my Death Guard army, despite being perfectly Codex and rulebook compliant) - many artwork assets are missing - whenever the app updates, it has at times wiped all my saved army lists, wiped my custom Chapter (or army equivalent) settings, or both Another thing that I find to be a smack in the face is the "DLC" stuff from the Warzone books. If I am paying for a service which is not working as advertised, then the least they could do is let me access the content from these books in the app and not have them locked behind another pay wall despite me having paid once for the army's Codex. I'll definitely be re-subbing; after all, I have only watched the Masterclass episodes and now have a year's worth of content to catch up on. And I love having both the exclusive minis, which I'll definitely be doing again this year. I just really hope that they can invest into their IT team and get competent testers, business analysts, and project managers on board to get their apps working properly. And please, PLEASE, let Warhammer+ come to Xbox and Nintendo Switch so I don't have to argue for time on the TV that has the Roku box!!
That was my ploy to make you watch to the end! 🤣 It wasn’t filmed on a different day, honest, I often change my shirt several times a day! The apps have always seemed like an aside. I do a bit of app programming in my job and a bit of freelance on the side and I agree, something isn’t right there. There is so much scope for cool apps and they just never get there. Even the Citadel colour app is difficult to use. I’ve experienced all those issues myself too. It isn’t great. I’m hoping the rules make the leap to free at some point. They might have to, just to encourage adoption, but who knows? You’ve got a lot to watch! I haven’t kept up with it since I stopped the weekly videos, so I’m right there with you. I’d love a Switch app, although I’d have to remember to keep the kid away from Interrogator! Here’s hoping they’ve hired good developers and they’re just in the middle of development! Cheers!
I am a software developer/engineer and half agree with many times you are pressure to make a release with insufficient time for testing. Having said that management should have picked that up. I did try to apply for a job as a software engineer (I have over 6 year experience with multiple technologies) They said no 😢. I think it was my cover letter we’re I told them hire me because I love Warhammer. I thought that was the best line
I'll resub, for me it's a fiver and it supports the company of the hobby I love so much. I wish they'd start using the resources at their disposal to give us a peek behind the curtain. Astartes 2 is still on the horizon, as well as Eisenhorn, so there's still some great potential here for the future. Would like to see more behind the scenes stuff and the animation quality bumped up a few levels.

There was a techmarine in the Damnos book that was fascinating how he behaved and how the other Space marines felt about him. It seems a lot of the Ultramarines don't exactly trust scions of Mars, even if they're fellow chapter brothers. It was very apparent they were paranoid that the techmarine may choose to side with the Necrons simply because they embodied what the cult mechanicus have always wanted, although to me that thought never made sense and it turned out to be completely unfounded.
I think I remember that one too. It does seem ridiculous that Battle Brothers would side with the enemy, although it was probably also that it was totally unknown what conditioning he had undergone out of their sight. Are you thinking they could maybe have done a bit more with Hadrael in that regard?

I guess I could see a conflict as the Cult Mechanicus values knowledge and logic over the lives of individuals, but at the same time the Necrons are xenos and their tech is heretical and the Necrons were very clear in their intentions with the whole "surrender and die" thing.
My biggest disappointment is actually Loremasters. GW can give us a lore show with access to all kinds of behind the scenes, interviews with the BL authors, codex writers, model makers, old concept art, etc. but instead I get Wade reading the 40K Wiki to me.
That’s a good way to describe it. You’re right, there is so much potential there, so I really hope they’ve got something in the works. Depending on how renewals went we could see new stuff or same old shows.

I quite like the Terminator, but doesn’t look like I’ll get it soon. They’ve taken my money but it’s still showing as unsubscribed when I try to get it. I’m glad you got yours sorted out. I think I’ll ask for a refund and just cancel if it isn’t sorted this week.
My favourite shows have been AoD, Interrogator and some of the H&Bs. I loved the Vindicare mini too, it got me back into painting. Louise’s master classes are great, the batreps (especially the AoD one) were too. Shame about Exodite, Astartes II (is it ever gonna happen?) and the lack of content some weeks. I’m probably gonna resub, I won’t be having the terminator though, probably the AoS Chaos priestess for my burgeoning Inq28 forays!
I loved your Vindicare! I’m not sure about Astartes 2, I’m hoping it’s taking a long time to make it something special. I’m going to grab both! How is the journey into Inquisitor going?

Syama Pederson started working on other personal projects on his Instagram recently which suggests that either Astartes 2 is finished and GW is sitting on it, or it's not happening at all and has been abandoned for whatever reason. He seems positive about warhammer and GW on his instagram warhammer related posts so I suspect GW is just sitting on Astartes 2 right now waiting to upload it.
GW kindly emailed me today to let me know that my Warhammer+ miniature, which I ordered August 25th for subscribing for one year, (and was given a 8 business day estimated delivery) should be PROCESSED in around another 10 business days. Sadly, they can't give an estimated delivery date. Pathetic. I support Warhammer +, and as a token of thanks, GW has decided I'll get my order someday.
That last line made me laugh, but that delivery time is insane. I got mine within two days. It seems that my subscription has messed up for Year 2 - I can’t choose a mini and it keeps telling me to subscribe, but they’ve taken my money.

Great review of the year. It's going to be cool to hear what year 2 is like! I've decided to not renew this year. I agree with loads of your points and I think it did get better, but I think it was poor to split Integrator over the two years. I decided to use the money with other creators etc. So to get me back on would be a dedicated Eldar series with Exodite mini. A chance to actually get tickets to events. Searchable WD issues. A documentary series about GW history. Let's also not forget Astartes 2 😂 I would have been cool to get all episodes in each animation series joined together so I can watch each series as a movie.

All very good points! It’ll be interesting to see if they try to win back unsubscribers or not. I’d just love a look at their numbers! I thought Interrogator would be delivered this year, but I guess the content stretch continues into next. I love the idea about an Exodite mini and about the documentary. Having a mode where you could run them all together without the intro would be great! I really enjoyed Interrogator much more when watched in a big block.
I enjoy Angels Of Death, Interrogator and some Hammer and Bolters, but none of them have hit the heights of Astartes animation-wise. I can see why, but don't agree with it. They're balancing quality with speed, because they need to keep to the one episode a fortnight schedule. Bitten off more than they can chew.
A fair review a little generous, other then the angels of death which is a deffo A+ everything els was just mehh. I stopped my subscription back in November Im only really interested in the animations anyway, although i did enjoy some of the master class. Personally its value for money is just not there. I got both the models online as stls and even the animations are online now so I just dont see the point in subbing. P.S I have enjoyed watching you go through the highs and lows of warhammer+ so im glad you have re-subbed.
I was just thinking, that compared to other similar content, it was all up there competing, but maybe giving A’s away so freely was generous. I didn’t realise the stls were available. What’s the quality like?
For me personally I’ll not be re-subbing…still needs improvement imo and I’ve spent a year being gw’s lab rat, I might sub to the app independently because I actually use that for list building but I’m going to sit out year 2 of the full package

Year two is looking even worse than year one at this point. It would be cool to see an updated video on your thoughts about Warhammer plus this year, but understandable if you don't want to make it, since their isn't much to discuss.
Yeah, lots of broken promises, such as ‘we will deliver one of each show every week’. That’s nowhere in sight! If I’m honest I haven’t been watching regularly since I stopped doing the videos. I’ll pop in to Masterclass if there’s an interesting-looking tutorial, but that’s about it. At this rate I don’t really want a year 3 of WH+, they’ve done very little to make it exciting. I’d have expected a new show by now, but there’s nothing. I will do some videos on it in the near future, as I’ll have more time over the Christmas break.
My grade's a D. I'm unsubbing. This wasn't a subscription service. This was a copyright c#ckblock to stop youtubers from improving their brand. You can watch everything worth watching in a night's binge. I enjoyed the animations, but I feel like an idiot for paying $60 for it while just getting back into the hobby. If next year there's more I'll buy it for a month, watch everything, and unsub after.
Since I stopped my reviews I haven’t been back every week and you’re right, there still isn’t much on there. For me, with vouchers and the minis, it all pans out in the end, but that’s just with an annual sub. I can see how a monthly sub every now and again would be the way to go if you’re not bothered about that kind of stuff.
How dare you be so reasonable and calm, sir? You should be shouting and titling videos like this, "IS GAMES WORKSHOP STEALING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY?!" Seriously, though, one question - is all of this content (besides the gory animated battles, of course) family friendly? My kids would love to watch something like the Red Gobbo battle.
That stuff isn’t for me. I tried it and immediately stopped, it just didn’t sit well with me. Everything apart from the animations is family friendly. The battle reports are just two enthusiastic hobbyists having fun, with no bad language. Maybe Loremasters has gory descriptions actually.

I just recently signed up to this service and I will be unsubbing before the end of the 1 month I paid for. There is so little content on there. Sure there are alot of painting tutorials, but there are far more for free on UA-cam Sure there are lore videos, but there are far more for free on youtube Sure there are battle reports, but there are far more for free on youtube I paid for the animations and I was expecting episodes that last 40 minutes and seasons that go for 10-20 episodes. They are asking for just a few dollars less than the cost of signing up with Netflix, and what they have delivered is 3 shows with a handful of episodes that clock in at 15 minutes each, and one short with 3 short episodes. Astartes doesn't count at all because they didn't make that and its on youtube for free. I watched the entire catalogue of animations in a single week after work days. A years worth of content. For the amount of content and the slow drip at which its delivered, monthly subscription should be halved to $5
All good points and I think you got your value from subbing for one month. The only way a continual or annual sub makes sense is if you're interested in the Vault, the occasional vouchers and the model at the end of the year. The animations are way too short. It's almost like GW didn't realise how long these things would take to make beforehand. Really interesting to hear from someone who subbed at the tail end of the year and I think the fact you casually watched every animation in a week speaks volumes. Cheers.

If the subscription was cheaper I'd think about leaving it so I just had access whenever I wanted, but as it borders the monthly cost of a full blown streaming service that has thousands of hours of content on them, and full 40m episode full season shows added every month, as well as feature length movies I just can't justify it for what I get out of it
Why bring out something with your brand name on it if you're not willing to invest. Doing it they way they've done it always will result in a mediocre product that puts people off thus losing revenue. They should have fully committed day 1 with great content to keep subscribers and to encourage new ones.
Simon if the 3d printed side of warhammer interests you check out battle brother sam's channel. His channel is about the same size as yours maybe a little smaller. He is a little like gamza but without all the GW hate. Just a guy doing the hobby his own way. Since Iv been watching him iv done 3k points of imperial knights and im about a 3rd of the way through printing my first warhound titan all pic on his discord if anyones interested

Yeah, the terminator does look nice. I think they have issues with people subbed through the iOS subs mechanism - doesn’t seem to register us as real people (rightly or wrongly)🤣.

I’ve been waiting a month for them to recognise me as a subscriber, after they had taken my £50 and now I’ve been asked for proof that I’ve resubbed through ios by sending a screenshot of my invoice. Something is badly broken there and I hope I’m the only one affected!

Great review of the year. It's going to be cool to hear what year 2 is like! I've decided to not renew this year. I agree with loads of your points and I think it did get better, but I think it was poor to split Integrator over the two years. I decided to use the money with other creators etc.
So to get me back on would be a dedicated Eldar series with Exodite mini. A chance to actually get tickets to events. Searchable WD issues. A documentary series about GW history. Let's also not forget Astartes 2 😂
I would have been cool to get all episodes in each animation series joined together so I can watch each series as a movie.
If you start an animation it automatically moves to the next episode
@@ThePaintingwOOki yeah it was more about not being interrupted by the Warhammer intro and just being able to continue with the story like what was done with Astartes.

I thought Interrogator would be delivered this year, but I guess the content stretch continues into next.
I love the idea about an Exodite mini and about the documentary. Having a mode where you could run them all together without the intro would be great! I really enjoyed Interrogator much more when watched in a big block.

My biggest disappointment is in the quality of their animations. At this point fan made ones are much better quality. Are they even trying?
I enjoy Angels Of Death, Interrogator and some Hammer and Bolters, but none of them have hit the heights of Astartes animation-wise. I can see why, but don't agree with it. They're balancing quality with speed, because they need to keep to the one episode a fortnight schedule. Bitten off more than they can chew.
A fair review a little generous, other then the angels of death which is a deffo A+ everything els was just mehh.

Im only really interested in the animations anyway, although i did enjoy some of the master class. Personally its value for money is just not there. I got both the models online as stls and even the animations are online now so I just dont see the point in subbing.
P.S I have enjoyed watching you go through the highs and lows of warhammer+ so im glad you have re-subbed.
I was just thinking, that compared to other similar content, it was all up there competing, but maybe giving A’s away so freely was generous.

For me personally I’ll not be re-subbing…still needs improvement imo and I’ve spent a year being gw’s lab rat, I might sub to the app independently because I actually use that for list building but I’m going to sit out year 2 of the full package
It does feel like being beta testers. If it wasn’t for the minis I might not resub - I haven’t watched too much since I stopped the weekly vids.
@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist yeah that’s exactly my reason, I haven’t logged in to watch anything in about 2 months, and while I liked the year 1 models the year 2 models don’t seem like anything special to me and I can happily do without…so the value for year 2 just isn’t there for me this time, the 40K app is the only part im likely to use with any kind of consistency aha

If I’m honest I haven’t been watching regularly since I stopped doing the videos. I’ll pop in to Masterclass if there’s an interesting-looking tutorial, but that’s about it. At this rate I don’t really want a year 3 of WH+, they’ve done very little to make it exciting. I’d have expected a new show by now, but there’s nothing.
I will do some videos on it in the near future, as I’ll have more time over the Christmas break.
My grade's a D. I'm unsubbing. This wasn't a subscription service. This was a copyright c#ckblock to stop youtubers from improving their brand. You can watch everything worth watching in a night's binge. I enjoyed the animations, but I feel like an idiot for paying $60 for it while just getting back into the hobby. If next year there's more I'll buy it for a month, watch everything, and unsub after.
Since I stopped my reviews I haven’t been back every week and you’re right, there still isn’t much on there. For me, with vouchers and the minis, it all pans out in the end, but that’s just with an annual sub. I can see how a monthly sub every now and again would be the way to go if you’re not bothered about that kind of stuff.

Seriously, though, one question - is all of this content (besides the gory animated battles, of course) family friendly? My kids would love to watch something like the Red Gobbo battle.
That stuff isn’t for me. I tried it and immediately stopped, it just didn’t sit well with me.
Everything apart from the animations is family friendly. The battle reports are just two enthusiastic hobbyists having fun, with no bad language. Maybe Loremasters has gory descriptions actually.

Not putting this on console is a huge mistake and shows the just don't care.

Yeah, there was a lack of content definitely. I tried to grade on quality rather than quantity, but it definitely has to be taken into account.

I paid for the animations and I was expecting episodes that last 40 minutes and seasons that go for 10-20 episodes. They are asking for just a few dollars less than the cost of signing up with Netflix, and what they have delivered is 3 shows with a handful of episodes that clock in at 15 minutes each, and one short with 3 short episodes. Astartes doesn't count at all because they didn't make that and its on youtube for free.
I watched the entire catalogue of animations in a single week after work days. A years worth of content.
For the amount of content and the slow drip at which its delivered, monthly subscription should be halved to $5
All good points and I think you got your value from subbing for one month. The only way a continual or annual sub makes sense is if you're interested in the Vault, the occasional vouchers and the model at the end of the year.
The animations are way too short. It's almost like GW didn't realise how long these things would take to make beforehand.
Really interesting to hear from someone who subbed at the tail end of the year and I think the fact you casually watched every animation in a week speaks volumes. Cheers.
@@TheHalfDoneHobbyist Yeah I am happy with the money I spent for that one month, but I see no reason to keep my subscription as the content release is really slow, and all the regular stuff I can get in much greater variety on youtube for free. If the subscription was cheaper I'd think about leaving it so I just had access whenever I wanted, but as it borders the monthly cost of a full blown streaming service that has thousands of hours of content on them, and full 40m episode full season shows added every month, as well as feature length movies I just can't justify it for what I get out of it

Why bring out something with your brand name on it if you're not willing to invest. Doing it they way they've done it always will result in a mediocre product that puts people off thus losing revenue. They should have fully committed day 1 with great content to keep subscribers and to encourage new ones.
100%. Even the ‘one of each show per week, an animation every fortnight’ promise has been broken. It seems like they’re happy with it being mediocre.
Simon if the 3d printed side of warhammer interests you check out battle brother sam's channel. His channel is about the same size as yours maybe a little smaller. He is a little like gamza but without all the GW hate. Just a guy doing the hobby his own way. Since Iv been watching him iv done 3k points of imperial knights and im about a 3rd of the way through printing my first warhound titan all pic on his discord if anyones interested
